Light In The Darkness

Sunset in Regalia, the sun retreated behind the trees, and darkness began to fade. The sky was a mixture of a gradient of azure to topaz, and what remained of the sun still shone bright.
A group of four; An drow, a nelfin of some sort, a maraya and an ailor navigated their way among the trees until they came to the crystalline waters of a lake located on the outskirts of Regalia. The tranquil waters mirrored their sorrowful expressions, ones of remorse. For all had lost something- someone dear to them just the previous night.

The first individual; the lover, the fiance.

The second and third individuals, friends closer than any could fathom.

And the fourth, a mere onlooker, but trusted by two of the three others.

They traipsed through the sand upon the beach of the lake, unfolding a soft picnic blanket which they'd then seat themselves upon. The silky soft sand shifted below them as they did so, and the pale hand of the female who had initially lead her three friends to such a location delved into the basket. Three paper lanterns were procured, all the same, all simple.

The four friends began to write upon the tags attached to each lantern, each displaying something different, unique, a message to their fallen friend.

"We will meet again soon, my love."

Wrote the lover.

"A friend until the end, you spreaded joy in your wake."

The companions wrote.

"I didn't know you, but you are missed."

Wrote the onlooker.

A match was then struck, lighting the candles under each of the lanterns, along with the candles that had been placed around the picnic mat. Darkness had fallen in such a short space of time, and the lit lanterns cast a glow amongst them.

The four rose to their feet, releasing their lanterns at the same time while one, the nelfin, sung a sweet lullaby, a parting gift to the lanterns, which rose up to the sky, lighting up the area around them like shimmering stars. All four present felt a weight lifted off them, as though they were at peace. The four nodded to one another, before they all spoke out softly in unison, once the song had concluded.

"Goodbye, Rena."

As the darkness consumed the area around them, the four watched as the lights drifted about the darkness above them, a guiding light which briefly lit up the area around them. Even as the lights became distant specks, the four watched on, solemn smiles appearing upon their lips. Silence followed thereafter as the group were near overwhelmed with emotion, however, the drow managed to speak out, his dark skin meaning he would've been barely seen, if it weren't for the candles.

"We will remember."
