The boy finally awoke from his unconscious state, groaning as he felt his face against rough, damp grass. He moved to push himself up into a sitting position, wincing at the pain. After a while, he felt his face, tearing off the bandage that had been wrapped around his eyes. His eyes didn't feel...
Quite right.
Blinking intensely, he looked around at the world which was now only made of light and dark shapes. He decided to conclude that it was probably night and too dark to see, so he sat for a while to try let his eyes adjust to the dark.
Nothing happened.
As he rubbed them, he noticed a sudden pain as he did so. On both eyes.
Again, not a good sign.
Stumbling to his feet, Gabriel sighed. Time to try find his way home in the dark.
"The damned dark, I tell you. It hateth me."
