Much like the rumor that circulated the city implied, Kade vessels had met up with Typhonus vessels fresh from Calemberg led by the Duke's cousin. Some ships from the Fong lands were also sent over by Ren or Chen Fong, it was never quite clear who the order came from. Either way, with these three fleets converging on the bay of Allestrain, a relatively shallow cove that was ideal for troop landings, there was a certain sense of pride in the air. These three armies were poised to land on the Regalian Crown Isle, throttle the Grayskin threat out of the city and defeat them on the field before the city walls. The commanders were convinced it was going to be a repetition of the Kade-Typhonus-Fong army that defeated the Lo-Santorski Consortium forces so long ago. The Battleships sent out a fleet of transport ships and sloops, carrying horses and cannons and soldiers to the shallow beaches.
The first to land was the Typhonus Cousin with the cavalry. Proud horsemen pranced from the transport ships onto the beachhead before marching further ahead to scout the terrain. Then came the artillery on sloops with large numbers of troops. As per usual, the Typhonus couldn't resist making a military march out of it complete with a military fanfare and rows of marching troops just fresh from the battlefields of Etosil. Curiously enough, there were even some unidentified corpse-looking individuals among the troops, commanded by almost skeletal or zombie-like officers. Yet the Regalian soldiers all acted very normally around these supposed undead. Finally the last commanders would enter the beachhead, the Prince Marshal, and his entourage as well as the final camp supplies. The whole landing operation itself took nearly an hour, and the beach was busier than it had ever been.
Unbeknownst to the troops landing on the beach, they were being watched from afar by both rebellion scouts as well as Freya Lo's minions, all on various sides of the beach, yet the rebellion scouts could only watch as the Deathling scouts sprung in action and blew a horn. The noise from the horn took the troops on the beach by surprise as they all turned in the direction it came from. Five Deathlings passed over the hill with a chained up person among them, which was promptly pushed forward. The Regalian commanders on the beach started yelling orders at the troops to brace for a cavalry charge or to set up a defensive perimeter, but the next action taken by their enemies took them by surprise. The chained up person started casting a spell, before finally raising his hands up in the sky, causing a massive flash of blinding light to burst over the beach.
The flash dazed and confused the soldiers, but it was only the first act of this ironic re-enactment of the battle of Calemberg. Deathling soldiers burst out of the sand, having been dug in before the Regalians arrived. With dagger and sword, they plunged their weapons into the soldiers who were all caught off guard. The undead soldiers reacted faster, taking sword and spear to the Deathlings, though among them it was often hard to tell who was Deathling and who was just a regular undead. The Soldiers tried to form barriers around the commanders, though the Typhonus horsemen were quickly pulled off their horses and thrown into the sand, only to die as blades pierced their finely decorated armor. Some horsemen and scouts managed to get away and link up with the rebellion scouts that were frantically yelling for them to reach the safer higher ground, but it became clear as the battle dragged on that the Regalians, while outnumbering the Deathlings, were completely disorganized by the sudden surprise attack. Even the Fong mages who had been so instrumental in the past during the battles in Lenna Bas were cut down in droves as they were unable to form a tight formation to summon a firestorm. The ships on the coastline tried to assist, but there was little they could do as any cannon fire was sure to cause collateral damage among the Regalian troops.
After about half an hour of intense fighting on the beach, the Regalians were pushed against the sea. The battle was as good as over as one of the Deathlings managed to sink a blade into the Prince Marshal's leg before he collapsed onto the sand. The other commanders then surrendered at the urging of the Deathling officers. What remained of the army was then put in chains and marched off to the Prison while the most important prisoners were sent to Freya Lo's Palace, more notably the military tacticians, commanders, the Undead commander who was presumed to be the leader, and the Prince Marshal. The few Typhonus Horsemen who escaped with the Rebellion scouts would spread the news across the island, to the Noble castles and forts as well as the taverns in the city about this catastrophic attempt at a counter-attack.
Back in Regalia, the news was greatly celebrated by the Deathlings. In a way for the Lo administration, it felt like a redemption from the loss they had suffered at the hands of the same families all those years ago when the Emperor reclaimed Regalia and deposed the usurper Lo. With her coronation set for the next day, this event provided all the added legitimacy to her rule over the Imperial Isle at the very least, but perhaps larger parts of the Empire as a whole. The troops that did manage to circulate news about the outside world reported that Etosil had been liberated after the Prince Commander made some sort of military pact with the Bone King who was equally under siege by the Bone Horrors, which explained the undead forces among the Regalian troops. They also reported that all the major retinues had been deployed towards the colonies anyway with different commanders, as the Lo coup came too late for those ships to be alerted to turn back, so there was no prospect of any military reinforcements coming anytime soon.
For those who had not yet had the thought sink in that this situation was going to last a long time, or perhaps never end, this was the deciding moment to change their mind. Freya Lo's rule over the city was cemented, especially with the amount of captives she had, the Prince Marshal, his children, their uncles, vast swathes of the nobility as well as the ever-looming threat of her minions besieging the Imperial Castle. With the chances for outside help diminishing, who would stand up among the people to organize a proper Regalian response?
