The Scarlet Court, often referred to as La Cour Écarlate de Sange-Riuve as a result of its roots, was founded in the year 207 AC in the Ivrae heartland of Vixhall. Their roots run deep in the lands of Sange-Riuve, where an established presence going on near a hundred years only to be recently broken established much notoriety - whispers of demons stalking the streets of local settlements at night, drained corpses and the steady trickle of disappearances in no small part responsible for the regional folklore surrounding vampirism.
In truth, the Scarlet Court was established with the arrival of the vampiric elder Trygve Haavik Bjørnsson, known then as Philippe Gaël de la Brète. From his ambitions, and the dutiful labor of the like-minded progeny of his who had accompanied him from Ithania that the foundations were laid for a fruitful existence in the wine country of the Imperial family. Subtly was not a method largely employed by the fledgling court, and it was instead through the manipulation of local bureaucrats and landholders that their killings would go largely unnoticed for decades to follow. The only substantial threat to their prosperity was the quiet trickle of Darkwald knights into the Vixhall countryside, and the Court's Varlord master made a habit of forcing cruel irony onto those so foolhardy as to fall into his hands through the transference of the blood gift.
This security would not last, however. When the hands of the Empire passed from the Ivrae to the Kades, the Princes of Vixhall were free to turn their attention onto their own fiefdoms. In the autumn of 305 AC, a contingent of Vampire Hunters led by Konrad Freiherr von Klötzer-Roschewald entered Sange-Riuve. They rooted out den after den with fire and sword, slaughtering dozens in the process. While the Court was largely unphased by what damage had been wrought, it stirred its master to action. Uprooting his kith from their home in Vixhall, ambition brought them to settle in the Regalian capital. It is from the Old Town that the Scarlet Court now operates, and with prying eyes upon them already, many would readily see the coven undone for what infamy they have accrued so suddenly in their coming to the holy city.
The Scarlet Court adheres to the vampiric mentality of respect through seniority. However, it does not recognize elder vampires outside of the Coven and its members will not offer deference to such unless otherwise requested by their Desprince. This is the result of their master's disagreements with his own maker, and how he treated with other covens at the expense of his own - something to be avoided.
- DESPRINCE
- Following in the tradition of the ancient covens of Hedryll, the Scarlet Court kneels to a princely vampire - her founder, and father to most who partake in the dealings of the Court. The current Desprince of the Scarlet Court is Philippe Étienne Marcelle Gaël de la Brète de Sange-Ruive, known by his true name amongst his inner circle and confidants otherwise, Trygve Haavik Bjørnsson. Spawned during the Great Vampire Wars for control of Hedryll, he has long since forsook his roots in favor of Ithanian decadence and hedonism.
- SEIGNEUR SANGUIN
- Lordly servants of their Desprince, the Seignur Sanguin are the upper-crust of their master's following, elder vampires who proved their diligence and loyalty long ago. They are given authority over junior vampires within the Coven and act as the instruments of the Desprince's will.
- CHEVALIER
- Knights oathed in blood, chevaliers of the court are the favored children of the Desprince. Those who have earned their place at this table are owed a greater respect than others, for their worth is proven and they would gladly lay down their lives on behalf of their maker.
- ÉCUYER
- Blooded Vampires who have already undergone mutations, they constitute the bulk of the Coven's ranks. While they do not share the same privilege as Chevaliers, among themselves, they are still beholden to the vampiric hierarchy of seniority, leading to more esteemed Écuyer who have been beholden to the gift for much longer than some of their counterparts.
- NEWBORN
- Newborn vampires are the fresh progeny of the Desprince and his children. They carry on the lineage of Sigurd Ulvidsson, from whose bloodline their master is born. Because of their state of being, freshly bestowed with the blood gift of Vampirism, they are treated as one would a child, coddled and guided step by step as they come to embrace their newfound blessing.
- EDICT I
- Upon entry in a room or group of the Coven, the highest ranking vampire (Often the Desprince) need to be acknowledged. Often done with the bow of the head or in more formal settings by kneeling. It is considered an insult to engage in conversation without making this acknowledgment.
- EDICT II
- The Desprince is always addressed by his title or alternatively 'My Princely Sovereign' and may not be interrupted when speaking. It is the natural order of the coven to be submissive and show humility when in the presence of the Desprince.
- EDICT III
- The Coven is a constant competition within each strata. While outright infighting is frowned and there being no tolerance to disrespect of superiors, the Desprince encourages the coven to be ambitious to foster a stronger lineage.
- EDICT IV
- Blood is an object of veneration within the Scarlet Court. To needlessly draw or waste blood is almost sacrilege. Conversely violence and display of gore is glorified. Non-vampires are prey and should not be treated with kindness or respect, those who show mercy or gentleness towards outsiders are frequently punished by their superiors.
- EDICT V
- The Scarlet Court does not recognize equals or superiors outside of its own coven. Any and all individuals who are not blessed are to be treated as an inferior. Those unable to accept the blessing such as Silven and some beast races are to be regarded even lower, as cursed-born. They are not to be referred to by name and at most be treated as livestock.
