So I recently saw LARP group at a camp site I was visiting. For those of you who don't know what LARPing is, it stands for Live Action Role Playing. They did massive battles (There were a lot of kids) using foam swords and custom weapons. So, as a community that role-plays, what are your thoughts on LARPing. Too much? Or still ok? Discuss!

This probably belongs in off topic or maybe even debates if it turns into an argument.

There is nothing wrong with LARPing I guess, just as long as people have the time and it does not annoy others or put anyone in danger (for example LARPing in the middle of a busy road would be a bad idea).

This would be pretty cool to try out sometime.
Another idea would be this:
MASSIVECON!!!
Just think, all the players from MassiveCraft gathering in a convention center for a day or two and playing Massive, LARPing and RPing in game, and of course playing on the beloved server a lot too. That would be epic...

Don't know about this. I'm afraid there would be some fights that would break out between certain players.

Good luck getting all the people from all the different countries into the same space. You'd have to give a /lot/ of heads up.

Ok, if that was local, it would be EPIC. Very. EPIC.

Ninjabaver, Cayorion, and Ulu are all larpers. :3 I know quite a few of my friends are larpers as well. It's fun to play pretend and still get to be an adult.

Minecraftkittys This is why we cant have nice things. Hehe. *hugs*
Actually those kids even got custom made weapons like double bladed staffs with lightning blue and blood red swords :O but I didn't know ninjabaver was a larper. It seems cool to me though :) also Ozgho thanks for that info :D I personally don't but it seems fun :)

I once larped with around 50 people while playing CTF. Hitting people with swords to parry and fence is so fun. :)

I have yet to find any LARPers in ohio...so i havent even considered it.

It could be fun.

It's really no different from actors in play except it's ad lib... and there is no audience. Usually.

Well, sure I am a larper. To me, larp is the perfect way to act and get to storys. Even if some might not understand that, I prefer larping over anything else (including massivecraft).

Larp is not only about fighting, there are many people in europe who simple like to complete riddles, do alchmic stuff or trying something completly else.
Larp is (to me and the group I am playing in) acting spontaniously onto a background which is given. Acting whatever you like (with comon sense ofc) and what is fun for all.

I recently invested 10h + for material and planning of a fire spell (which is surely hard to demonstrate). Trying to show others what you want to do (cast a spell, be pathfinder, being a librarist) is what makes larp fun for me.

Tl;dr
By all means, try it! And if you think its fun do it ;)

I don't actually Larp but I DO believe I'm going to a Renaissance Fair with a friend of mine! (chuckle)

As a LARPer myself (on the rare occasion that I can get to an event), I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys roleplay. Yes, the concept is strange, and yes it can be odd to get into for the first time, but if you have a good group, they'll help to ease you into the process and make sure you have a good time.
