Birth - Childhood |

Koda Sergeyevich was born on The 9th of May, 262, in a small village in Bythnalost. He was born to an impoverished farmer's family under rather poor conditions; while the lords relished in what wealth was drawn from their farm, Koda had little to eat but the game his father would hunt while trying to stay out of the sight of those seeking to tear the meat from his very bones if they found out. Despite this, there were many a day in his youth where Koda would go without a meal, chewing on rests of hay just to get by. The moment he managed to lift a bucket, Koda was forced to work on the farm by his father; though he was cared for, it would not come without price. Such was the duty of the peasant, or so he was taught through warnings and the eventual beatings.

✻ Childhood - Adolescence |

Through a childhood of labour and by his family's wit in surviving the hand they had been dealt, Koda managed to grow up as a strong Vladno of his class would. When he was 14, his father immediately taught him the last of his lessons, in the morning he would slaughter a pinned animal. In the night, they would hunt. His father did not own a bow, nor did he dare to make one. Instead, he hunted in the only way he figured one should; by bashing the animal he wished to kill as hard as he possibly could. Though it wasn't effective, boars and animals tending after their children would often meet his challenge, and promptly lose to the improvised shield and wooden club. Now that he was 14, Koda was promptly assigned to assist in caving in animal skulls. The two would bond over the experience, and Koda would become and adult at last. Now, with two men hunting from the land, their spoils increased, and for the first time in decades, the family ate well even under the fate of their tyranny. Yet, the happiness they had found was not a lasting one.

✻ Adolescence - Adulthood |

On the cusp of his eigteenth, a guardforce of four men approached his farmhouse, the mark of the fieflord bare upon their shoddy tabbards. Koda knew instantly why the men had come, and his father knew too. Setting his pitchfork by the door, he would exit the house, where he was promptly beaten to death. After the men had unceremoniously punished the man they believed was likely for the poaching done, they walked off the property. Such was the fate of the peasant, after all. Though Koda's teeth could have well shattered from the force with which he clenched them together, he would be a fool to go against the lord of his land. And so, he would become the head of his household, taking care of his mother who had all but died the moment her husband did.

Though Koda dilligently took care of the farm he had inherited, the death of his father was but the beginning of his misfortunes. Day by day he suffered, year by year he ploughed as the fieflord grew ever more demanding. It wasn't long until the fief entertained the idea of levies, and being a strong, able-bodied man, Koda was conscripted, drafted to be a pawn at the whims of the nobles he had grown to despise. When picking from the pile of weapons the soldiers and knights had discarded, Koda was reunited with a shield, choosing the mace as an alternative to his club. His choices were perhaps a stroke of brilliance, as the many senseless battles he was thrown to fight in erupted into a chaos where only the ability to brave the storm and swing into the mist were needed. Koda survived, but his absence brought his farm ever closer to ruin. Finally, in the tenth year of his continued call to ever more petty wars, his farm collapsed under a storm that his neighbour could not help him with. With the farm in ruins, his small family of two barely had food for one no matter how much Koda attempted to hunt. Knowing his mother would not survive the coming winter, Koda fell into despair, seeking to sell himself to other farms as a workhorse, only to find all the others in positions not dissimilar to his own, unable to offer him reprieve. Koda's mother passed away of starvation, a death not uncommon in those harsh days.

Now without both parents, Koda spent his days repairing his farm, hunting his next meal, and serving his lord by fighting whenever it was requested of him. Half his land he sold to his neighbour. The other half he used to grow beets, a cheap and often unwanted food that could survive his absence. Bitterly, he kept to himself, wearing shoddy clothing and slowly growing old. Yet, on the year of 305, a change finally struck. The Night of Broken Chains engulfed the land in the fire of revolution. Koda, without purpose for a great many years, now lived in a world that was rapidly changing. Though he only carefully entertained the idea of revolution, the changes brought about within just a year heated his blood, and soon Koda grew alight with optimism and conviction. Picking up the weapons he had taken from a once beaten knight, Koda swore on the shield that he would travel to Regalia, the root of the corruption that had seeded through his country and brought suffering to his family, not relenting until he had personally spoken his grievances to the Emperor himself.

  • A well-tailored app and an equally ambitious and just-hearted character, I can't wait to see what kind of waves he'll make among the slowly expanding noble scene. @ItsAnother
