    Personality and Abilities
"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." -Mark Twain

First Paragraph: From a stranger’s point of view, Joan might seem like a bit of a tougher or meaner woman from the fact that she’s been living a harder life and the fact that she has a brand on the back of her right hand of an Imperial eye, but after a short conversation they would come to find that she is not actually cruel in most situations. Usually she's a talkative and friendly person that just wants to help or get to know the other commoners of Regalia. On the other hand, if you were to appear when the woman was rather frustrated or annoyed, then you'd discover quickly that she's a rather snappy and quick-to-insult woman. In the latter situations, those that get on her bad side can quickly discover that the woman is rather good with a knife.

Second Paragraph: Internally, Joan is a rather mess of a person. She's lost faith over the last few months in Unionism and eventually left all together. She is quite smart though, espeically when it comes to write. Following all that's happened to her, though, she's turned to simply sticking out of mind's eye. While she does have the best intent for those around her, she's usually only seen as a bad guy. Due to this, her thoughts on people- especially those of power- are rather twisted into a bad image.

Third Paragraph: Having grown up in a loving home, Joan is protective and caring for her family when she sees them- which is not anytime recent. Towards her friends, she is fairly carefree and always chattering. As for lovers, Joan has only had one, which is her husband Merek, though they have not seen each other in many months due to the fact that Joan caught him cheating- though due to their religion, they cannot divorce until death. If someone were to show romantic interest towards Joan in the time-being, or until she knows for certain that her husband has died, she would sadly reject their affection as to not commit sin, though she is becoming a less religious person as time passes.

Fourth Paragraph: For Joan's alignment she would have to be considered Chaotic Neutral, as while she isn't trying to be a bad guy, she is going against the law on her own freewill. The woman has been known to say some rather bad things about others and has even murdered a woman in a fit of jealous, though she regretted. In addition to her newfound habit in crime, the woman has also abandoned her religion for the most part- 'leaving' her marriage despite the lack of ability in being able to due that in the religion Etosian Unionist. As of recently, Joan has picked up on poetry, she's fallen in love with using it to express how she feels.

    Talents
"I may raise sheep, but I am not one. I am their caretaker, not their equal."
Growing up as a daughter of a shepherd, it’s not hard to understand that the woman knows quite a bit in the field of husbandry. Joan knows most of her skills in the caretaking of sheeps after being taught how to raise them since she was the young age of five, but she could easily catch on about how to care for other animals if someone relied on her to do so. While this isn’t exactly something that’s really needed in Regalia as there aren’t many pastures of sheep, she still would be up to caring for them should someone need.

Physical Strength is another talent of hers as she as gained a bit of muscle after years of being outside and caring for animals. She has a toned body build from such activities and with her strength she also knows how to wield a dagger- whether it be in stabbing or throwing, she can do fairly well with one though she’s better hand-to-hand and without weapons. She was taught how to fight by her older brother, Lucas, who has been by her side since she was born as she was his first sibling and so was his automatic favorite as they were together the longest.

    Weaknesses

"Not feeling today is no replacement for reality. Your problems today are still your problems tomorrow." -Larry Micheal Dredla

Despite the fact that she is a friendly woman that just wishes to make her parents proud, that doesn’t take away the fact that Joan is an addict. She is highly addicted to alcohol and siggs- leading to small fits of rage should she be cut off from either by someone, but alcohol more so than tabacco. Generally the woman can be seen with a sigg in hand and if not, then it’s a ninety percent chance her hands will be occupied with a tankard.

    A
fter the outbreak of the plague in Regalia, Joan has become physically ugly. Her face is now covered in pocked marks as well as over the rest of her body. Not only that, but the tattoo on the back of her right hand- one of the Imperial Eye- is one that is rather unsettling as it is the brand of a criminal.

    Life Story
    • Joan Lottie Payne is born on January 3rd, 274AC on Etosil to Francis-Drake and Dimia Payne, her family being one mainly of shepherds and traders.
    • Starting at the age of three, Joan begins to learn how to read and write-both in Common and Etosian.
    • At the age of five, she is introduced to shepherding by her father where she takes a large interest to it- majorly because at that young of an age she was drawn into the large cloud looking creatures (sheep) that roamed the fields.
    • Towards six and seven, Joan began to be trusted with the sheep by herself for hours at a time, though not yet by herself until she was nine.
    • At the age of eight, Joan's seven year old sister, Matilda mysteriously fell ill and soon died in their household but to the relief to the living Paynes, none of the others caught whatever the young girl had passed from.
    • Following Matilda’s death by a few months, an undead wandered into the fields of the Payne’s sheep and killed four of them before Francis-Drake killed it. This left Joan terrified of being alone in fear that another would come along and make a meal of her as well leading to her older brother, Lucas sticking by her side for the next six months.
    • Joan takes her first trip to Regalia with her father at the age of fourteen- followed by around three others.
    • Following her fourth trip to Regalia, Joan finds a young stowaway within the ship who had mistaken it for vessel bound for Ithania. Instead of handing the female stowaway to the authorities, Joan helps her by gifting her with a necklace to sell as well as tells her which ship is next to leave so she may find her way either back to Regalia or at least off of Etosil quickly.
    • She meets another half-Etosian- a man named Merek Rolfe, the two not taking long to fall for one another and two years later when Joan was twenty-three, the two were married within a traditional Etosian Unionist wedding.
    • Joan and her new husband leave Etosil for Regalia to start anew, seeking to make a life away from those of the mountains and such of Etosil.
    • It doesn’t take the two long to discover that neither of them were taught very many talents suitable for a job within the grand Holy City, their plans to be great falling through quickly but neither wanting to return to Etosil as failures.
    • Merek begins cheating on his wife with multiple women, though she doesn’t find out until three years after it begins at the age of thirty-one.
    • Joan discovers the affairs and goes on a witchhunt for one of the women she knows slept with her husband- stabbing the woman and killing her in a fit of rage which she quickly regretted.
    • Upon returning home, the Etosian revealed what she’d done to her husband, who abandoned her soon after- sadly, due to her religion Joan and her husband were still technically married though she abandoned the use of her husband’s last name.
    • Joan takes to alcohol and siggs, but still is set on surviving despite the hole she and her husband had dug her into- planning to someday finish the ladder out so she may return to Etosil as someone to be proud of.
    • She turns herself into the Regalian Guards for murdering the lover of her husband who arrest her for a month in Blacktower following branding the back of her right hand with an image of the Imperial eye.
    Life Chronicles
Young Childhood (Birth - Year Five)
Born on the isle of Etosil on January 3rd of 274AC to Francis-Drake and Dimia Payne, Joan was brought into a life of hard-work, a loving family, and strict worship of Etosian Unionism. Her family was a rather large one, consisting of five children- three girls and two boys who all started their studies with reading and writing at the young age of three. Despite them having a basic education, all the children of the Payne family were introduced to shepherding at an even earlier age. Out of the five children, the second oldest- Joan- was the one that adapted most to a life of caring for the lives of animals. By the age of five, following the birth of her second and last sister, Joan was already following her father into the fields where their livestock were kept to learn his ways while her older brother kept at home, having become fascinated with art.
Childhood (Year Six - Year Twelve)
Towards six and seven, Francis-Drake began to trust his daughter enough to allow her to watch his sheep by herself for several hours at a time, though she was not quite yet ready to be allowed on her own entirely until she reached the age of nine, in which the girl awoke an hour before dawn every day and cared for her flock happily. Not long after this, a strange but tragic number of things occurred in and around her home. Firstly, her youngest sister, Matilda, took ill - the young girl being the age of seven and only older than the babe of the family. Matilda passed not long after she took sick, the family unnerved and of course torn by her death though they never did discover how the girl died- lucky for them, it didn’t seem to have been catchable as none of the other children or Francis and his wife caught ill. Only four months following the death of her youngest sister, an undead wandered upon their fields, murdering four of Joan's twenty sheep before her father managed to kill it. The girl was devastated and scared to leave her home following that period and for nearly six months she brought her older brother, Lucas, with her every where outside of her home.
Teenage (Year Thirteen - Year Nineteen)
The years following her thirteenth birthday were slow and fairly uneventful except for a short trip that Joan took to Regalia with her father when she was fourteen. She was amazed by the grand buildings and even the streets but the trip was short, only meant for business and soon enough the two returned home with an assortment of lovely wares and a lack of her sheep's’ wool that had been traded for such things. It wasn’t until Joan was sixteen that another important truly happened, following another trip of the Holy City. Joan, Lucas, and, of course, her father were unloading some crates from the ship they had taken to arrive back at Etosil when a young girl, perhaps a year younger than Joan, was caught by the Payne hiding behind a crate. She had dull blonde hair and ivy eyes, dressed in an outfit that nearly matched her eyes except for a tad duller. Joan helped the stowaway from the ship, where the Ithanian girl, as Joan soon found out that was her heritage from the girl, explained that she had boarded the ship originally to get back to Ithania but must have taken the wrong one. The Etosian was puzzled about how anyone could manage such a mistake but eventually decided to assist the girl until the Ithanian refused to follow along with her to speak to Lucas and Francis-Drake- scared that she would be punished. Despite the fact that Joan wished to help the girl with her situation, she was unnerved by the fact that the girl was too scared to even approach her kindly father- opting instead to gift the fifteen year old with a silver necklace she’d purchased on her first trip to Regalia, telling the Ithanian to trade it for necessities and then board another ship headed for the city. The Payne never heard from the Ithanian girl again but it was always a strange day she remembered, yet she never told anyone about it as she felt important holding a secret like that.
Early Adulthood (Year Twenty - Year Thirty)
At the age of twenty-one, Joan met a man named Merek Rolfe, another half-Etosian that lived in a nearby part of Etosil. The two met and became friends rather quickly, Rolfe taking an interest in the fact that Joan had been raising sheep since she was barely raised herself. To no one’s surprise, when Joan was twenty-three, she and Merek married at a usual Etosian Unionist wedding and soon after- this time to everyone’s surprise- she announced that she and her new husband would be taking a break from the lives as shepherd and trader to instead find work in the Holy City. Six months later, Joan left Etosil with Merek and all of her belongings that her mother and father had given her . They bought a small house in the city but soon discovered that work was hard to find when all your experience is in that of animal caring and trading with the use of bartering instead of regals. By twenty-nine, Joan was still only working a low paying job as a maid while her husband - against her knowledge- began to take to the sewers and several of its women.
    Current Life (Year Thirty-one)
About five months after her thirty-first birthday, the Half-Etosian found out about the affairs that her husband had been having when he told her of those other women following a few drinks - including the name of one of these such harlots, another New Ceardian woman. In a fit of rage, Joan set out of her house, drawing a cloak over her shoulders before setting into the sewers for the first time in her life. After nearly an hour of asking around for a woman that matched the name or appearance, Joan found the woman her husband had cheated on her with. While Joan had originally planned to on confronting the woman and perhaps backhanding her for her actions, the moment that Joan had approached her, the mocking had begun. With a growl, Joan had drawn the dagger at her side and before she knew it dug it upwards into the woman’s ribs. Powered by sheer adrenaline, the Etosian managed to ignore the dying New Ceardian and abandoned her in the sewer tavern- whose name was oddly fitting as the ‘Corpse in the Gutter’. Joan didn’t take long, only a few hours actually, to spill what she’d done to her husband who- to her disbelief- packed up his things and abandoned her as she had done to the Ceardian in the tavern, leaving her in her lonesome.
Currently, three months following the murder she’d done, Joan is still healing from her abandonment by her husband and getting over the fact that the young shepherd she used to be had become a murderer. In the past few months the woman has fallen into an alcohol and sigg addiction, though her friendly attitude is still present- until someone separates her from her ale too long. She hopes to return to Etosil one day, but remains in Regalia as she wishes to pull her life together and hold a respectable life and amount of money before she returns to her family, wishing to not be a failure of a child for her parents, but as time goes on more and more events have been bringing her down and with that she's begun questioning her religion.
