Character Information
Name: Jacque Cochet
Full Name: Jacque Marsalle-Troissant Plume Lourde Corbeau de Chaumont
Race: Toulonne Ithanian Ailor
Age: 28
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Affliction: Death-Hand Mortisphage

Core Concept
Jacque is a dejected Mortisphage of the Malefica, having sworn himself to it at his lowest moment and now serving as a grave tender as a cover. He is a poet, writing sonnets about the sublime nature of mortality, and enjoys the fanciful things of his previous noble status if only out of nostalgia.

Jacque's feeding habits primarily target nobility and the eccentric, especially those from exploitative cultures, as he jealously preys on those who reaped the benefits of the practice. At the same time, his family suffered for the same. He also finds their blood "full-bodied" compared to commonfolk's "rough" taste. He, however, also desires the taste of the mournful and depressed for their "terpenic" taste.

Jacque's companion is a dead crow named Pépier, whom he revived as an undead following his transformation into a Mortisphage. Pépier will follow Jacque almost anywhere from a distance and is much more lively and jovial than the sullen Jacque. He loves to dance and croon while Jacque recites poetry.

Jacque's combat style is a mix of theurgy and melee combat. His chosen weapon is a shovel, usually inscribed with magical runes but any shovel will do. As well as his shovel, he also carries a lantern that houses the shades of his dead family that he utilizes as both a casting and ritual conduit.

Appearance Information
Jacque is a tall, short-haired man with a dark complexion and brown eyes. He keeps himself cleanly dressed and shaven, his appearance matching one of nobility even in his state of destitution through magic. His hands and forearms are covered with scars from old buboes and rough, like sandpaper, with the fingertips decaying to the bone.

Jacque dresses in fine clothes of Toulonne's make, looking modest yet crafted of high-quality fabrics. He is never found without gloves to cover his hands, even bandaging them to keep them concealed.

Jacque's mortisphage form mimics his own, though with a few key differences. His eyes turn a wistful green and constantly drip black, shadowy tears that evaporate when touching any surface. His cheeks become sunken and shallow, and his hands' bony tips extend up his forearm. His skin is cold and sticky to the touch, like metal.

Life Story
Jacque Marsalle-Troissant Plume Lourde Corbeau de Chaumont was born blue-blooded to Gilles and Esther Marsalle-Troissant. Born as the youngest brother of three, the eldest being Achille and the middle being Alphonse, he was coddled by his mother as a child. He lived on the agricultural Cochet estate in Chaumont, Ithania, that maintained the institution of Asha exploitation. He did not take quickly to physical activities; instead, he grew to become an emotional and artistic child who tended towards being a loner.

Jacque's teenage years were quiet as he often fled his tutors to read alone. He indulged in the poetic works of Henriette Plessis and Bertrand Barbier, beginning a career in poetry that contrasted his upbringing with the study of finances. His stunted social skills led him to avoid social contracts and friends, often being prodded and teased by his older brothers. Yet, his poetry skills would grease his application to Madame Bette's Performing Arts Institute, where he would be accepted.

At twenty-one, Jacque would return home from school to assist his beloved mother through the birth of her first daughter. At the same time, one of the eldest Asha servants on their estate, one Meskha, would be constrained to her deathbed after eighty years of hard labor. Yet, despite her dedication, she was cut loose by the Cochet family. Infuriated, she would bargain her old soul to Gahan and unleash a curse on the Cochet estate; there would not be another generation for this wretched family. At the same time as Meskha's heart stopped, Esther would give birth early to a sickly child: Marinette. Esther would not survive the birth of Marinette.

Gilles Cochet, following the death of his wife, would experience a sudden downturn in health blamed on an onset of hysteria. He would be found in his study after taking a late night, a spilled glass of wine on the floor, gripping his chest with a horrified expression as he died of a heart attack. Next, Achille would be killed during a sporting event as his ribcage would be shattered by a stray shotput ball. After Achille, Alphonse would be coronated as the new head of the family while stuck in a loveless marriage. He would be found in a noose in his father's study no sooner than a week after his arrival.

The unprepared Jacque would take the mantle of his family with horror. His estate's funds would begin to run dry as the fields became fallow, and out of guilt and fear, Jacque decided to free his slaves. Yet, his choices would not save him from his fate. After a year, he would be stricken by an unknown, magical skin disease that ravaged his body. His family's wealth was squandered, spending thousands on mages and alchemists as he sought a cure. He would be spared his death, however, as the seven-year-old Marinette would become ill with the same disease after spending days at his side in an attempt to comfort him. Jacque would outlive Marinette, subsequently burying her body with a dreadful, remorseful poem in her coffin at her side. Resigned to his deathbed, he would be confronted by a roused spirit of death. Horrified by the specter of dying, he placed himself in the service of The Malefica in return for a cure for his curse.

Given a new purpose, the pitiful man would go to Regalia, leaving his cursed estate behind to rot.
