Raised on a boat for a large portion of her childhood, Izumi would learn skills in sailing and captaining a ship. Her father would take time to teach her some Sihai culture and traditions as well as how to fight. Once old enough Izumi would start working around the ship, earning respect from the crew and continuing her combat training with her father and other members of the crew. Once her father decided she was ready, Izumi was allowed to participate in ship raids along with the rest of the crew. While docked at ports and harbors, Izumi’s mother would show her the ropes of pickpocketing and sneaking around as well as how to give herself piercings and quick tattoos. Her parents would start bringing her to the silverwind Pirate commune, where she would learn even more about running and captaining a ship for the next three years. As Izumi reached her early twenties, she'd rejoin her pirate crew and would continue to raid and pillage with favor always tipping towards them. One raid would go horribly bad, however, their target retaliating fiercely. Izumi’s mother and father would both be killed and Izumi would have her sword arm cut off, forcing her and the remaining pirate crew to flee with what they managed to grab. After a week of recovery and mourning, Izumi made up her mind to continue on in her mother’s footsteps and seek vengeance for the swordsman that took her arm and eastern blade. In her mother’s honor, Izumi used her name as a surname as she took over the pirate ship. After recruiting new crewmembers, Izumi would resume going on raids as she traveled the seas. While docked for some ship repairs, Izumi came across a Kathar by the name of Riviel. Riviel offered to pay Izumi a generous fee for passage overseas. Izumi agreed and the two became quite close during the journey. By the time they had reached Riviel’s destination, she decided to stay with Izumi and joined the crew. Izumi would have Riviel’s aid as she continued to search for her nemesis. Her search would eventually point her towards Regalia, following a rumor that the ship was seen docked there last. Izumi went to Regalia in hope to find her sword, but came up empty handed. With Riviel wanting to stay, Izumi parted ways with her, traveling around to clear her head. While she traveled, Izumi ended up picking up a few lessons from a traveling alchemist that she ferried on her ship. After some time to think, Izumi decides to return to Regalia after her hiatus, looking to find her old lover.
