If your a human being then you should be familiar with the curse of hunger. Whether you are rich or poor everyone has to eat. Now if you are a poor beggar you satisfy your hunger on a measly loaf of moldy bread, but if you are rich you would be stuffing your gob with lobster and the likes. But here is where the similarities between life and massivecraft end. Under the rare condition that you do not have the feed always trait equipped, and may still be eating food, most likely the almost infinite stock of roast potatoes. And that's where the problem lies. Why would anyone go through all the time and effort to make a stew or a cake when they can just eat 3 or 4 potatoes? In real life almost everyone would prefer a cake to potatoes would they not?? Unfortunately there is no real way to discern between 'quality foodstuffs' and mouldy bread. So tell me, what would encourage you to prepare/eat finer foods? (I don't want things like: if I eat good food then I get free diorite)

The foods in Minecraft may look like one is better than the other, but the reasons why there are
stews, pumpkin pie, and vice versa is because that some items are harder than getting others; for an example, if you were in a swamp biome and getting mushrooms is much easier for you than getting a carrots because villages don't usually spawn in the swamps biome, so I would rather have mushroom stew than going all the way over to a village to get some carrots and head back to where your house is; Minecraft didn't just create some of these foods without a reason to do so, it would get boring to eat bread all the time so they would spice it up with different options like pumpkin pie/mushroom stew.

Interesting. Would you consider spending time making pumpkin pies/ stews ect for a similar buff, say regeneration for 10 seconds?

I see this type of stuff happen a lot on PvP Minecraft servers. I generally see this to be way too overpowered because all you have to do is teleport away, and eat whilst doing so you're regaining your health making it way harder for players to kill you I already find healing potions to be overpowered due to how you can easily heal yourself by just smashing a potion on your feet. Adding foods that can regenerate your health in almost in an instant is overpowered, it explains the reason why Mojang has nullified the golden apples so it just gives you extra hearts and not completely restore your health in an instant.

Food buffs probably shouldn't be something that effects combat too heavily. For example, speed or regen. Unless the food uses materials that usually grant these buffs- so as the example, since Golden Carrots use gold, like a Golden Apple would though in a MUCH smaller amount, they could give Regen 1 for 8 seconds. Enough to give you maybe a whole heart back. Other more complex foods, IE Pumpkin Pie, could give other perks, like Saturation 1 for 15 seconds. So you have to eat even less than usual.

Thats just me spitballing some ideas around though.

Or you just get 1k herbalism and get more food from potatoes than any meat in the game
