The calling of nobility is to rule and preside. Still, there are some places and situations where a higher standard is called for: Imperial Code answers. Only the best for our Emperor and our Empire.

      • On applicability,
        • Imperial Code applies on Imperial Grounds always. This is counted as the Imperial Progress, Imperial Palace, and the Assembly Hall, as well as any grounds provided by the Imperial Court.
          • Imperial Court-provided locations may temporarily suspend Imperial Code if and only if this is done by a member of the Imperial Court during event hosting.
          • The Howlester Estate, due to being an Ambassadorial extension of Gallovian soil and therefore overseen by the Gallovian Court, is not bound by Imperial Code nor Grounds unless willingly invoked.
        • Imperial Code can be voluntarily invoked at events and gatherings that require far more decorum by their host or hostess, or else one of the Imperial or Royal Houses. This may never be done to force a change of wardrobe amongst the nobility, save for if the caller is Imperial or Royal.
          • OOC: If Royal/Imperial blood invokes a wardrobe change and you don't have another skin, don't worry about it. Just emote going to go get changed and come right back! This is an entirely IC thing, so you don't have to go exclude from RP to skin-switch if you don't want to.
        • Violations of Conduces done on Imperial Grounds count one and a half times, and Imperial Code in particular two times, as harshly as regular violations.
      • On languages and speech,
        • The current Courtly Languages are Common, d’Ithanie, Alt-Regalisch, and Anglian. No other languages may be spoken on Imperial Grounds or where Imperial Code is invoked.
        • To audibly speak in any other non-Court language in front of other nobles who cannot speak it is often a way to insult the intelligence of those around, or else to insult the hospitality of one’s hosts.
          • This point is not bound by Imperial Code, as it is a common courtesy. This point has long been unwritten social etiquette.
        • A noble should never swear underneath Imperial Code unless for very necessary effect, though preferably not even then.
      • On magic, artifacts, Clockwork, and other Occult usages,
        • Even if capable, one may never cast magic or make use of artifacts anywhere where the Imperial Code is invoked. This bar extends even over those dispensed White Magic Status or other equivalents.
          • An exception is made for those necessary to daily life; for instance, if an artifact is functioning as a given limb, though this must be fully legally registered with the relevant authorities.
        • Clockwork prosthetics are permitted so long as they follow the shape of usual limbs (an arm, for instance, would be fine; an arm shaped like a sword would not) and do not tick too loudly.
      • On servants,
        • Servants may never be unaccompanied without their nobles when Imperial Code is in effect.
        • Servants may never engage in activities intended for nobles unless the activity’s host has specifically indicated that servants may participate.
        • Servants are on duty on Imperial grounds, always. Servants do not have to serve anyone who is not of the family they work for on Imperial grounds unless that person is of Imperial blood, and then only by command or request.
        • For further information on servants, see Service Code.
      • On Imperial presence,
        • Imperial Presence is defined as a comfortable speaking distance with Imperial Blood or His Imperial Holiness, or elsewise a distance where one is able to witness more subtle actions. Ideally, one ought to be on their best behavior all the time, but especially when Imperial Blood or His Imperial Holiness can be overheard.
          • OOC: Emote distance is “comfortable speaking distance.” As long as the Emperor/Imperial Blood is in announce distance, you should be ideally on your best behavior, but Imperial Code only comes into explicit “this counts” once you hit emote distance. Rule of thumb: if you can see him, He Can See You.

      • The Mistress of Conduces would like to note that all but the last point of the Proper Dress section is already Imperial Law, having been passed by the Assembly and Prince Marshal Cedric Kade in response to improper dress at Assemblies last year. Essentially, these rules have already been in place: now they are simply clarified.
      • The Proper Dress section applies to the Imperial Palace and Assemblies. It may be invoked any time by Royal or Imperial blood. It does not apply to the Imperial Progress unless specifically invoked by a member of the Court who is hosting activities, but may be levied if one’s dress is unsatisfactory or otherwise made necessary.
      • On proper dress,
        • Gloves are required to be carried on the person, if not worn.
          • Gloves must always be worn to touch any other person, accept documents, or otherwise physically interact with another that is not a servant.
        • No skin underneath the collarbone may be shown, at all, period. This extends all the way down to the floor; floor-length skirts, long pants, or high boots are encouraged.
          • No decolletage.
          • OOC: Necklines under Imperial Code can only go down two pixels.
        • No forearms may be shown. Hands may be free, so long as gloves are carried on one’s person in case they find the need.
        • Shoulders and upper arms are permissible, but ideally, these should be shown as minimally as possible.
        • Imperial stylings are heartily encouraged, but not necessarily required.
      • On armament,
        • No armor may ever be worn while Imperial Code is in effect unless one is wearing a single decorative item (a thin chest plate, a gauntlet, etc.) for fashion purposes.
          • The Imperial Guard is immune to this rule.
        • If a personal arm is to be carried on Imperial Grounds, it must be dulled or blunted and simply be a dress sword or item.
        • If one finds themselves within Imperial Presence, one must immediately disarm, even if the weapon they hold is blunted or dull-edged. The correct procedure to remove the arm from one’s person is to visibly undo the scabbard belt holding the weapon, keeping both hands visible. Once removed, one is to extend the scabbard belt in front of them with both hands and either drop or slowly lower the scabbard belt to the ground. Then, one is to sweep it out of reach with their foot as quietly as possible. This is a mark of deference to Imperial authority and applies when encountering any member of the Imperial bloodline, but especially the Emperor.
