    〚 ◈┇ ══════ - ‹ •◦ ◦• › - ══════ ┇◈ 〛
    • ᴇᴠᴇɴᴛ ᴅʀᴇss ᴄᴏᴅᴇ
      • Everyone must wear silk gloves to at least the wrist; women may extend their gloves to their elbows if desired.
        • OOC: If the gloves are super duper hard to skin, it’s fine to leave them off and just emote them. Be kind to your skinners!
      • Silken dance slippers must be worn on the dance floor.
      • Gowns must be floor-length. There may not be any slits in the skirts. Decolletage is allowed, but necklines must not go egregiously low. If there are any questions of what is permitted, pen the Mistress of Conduces with sketches of designs.
        • Gowns with flaring skirts are preferred for this event, as well as ribbons of some sort.
      • Half-masks, either vertical or horizontal, are encouraged - or full masks, set angled aside to allow the face visibility if one rathers. These masks should be themed by the role of the attending noble.
        • This ball is not a masquerade, however, so please ensure an identity can be ascertained underneath the mask - any noble who wins an award and cannot be identified will be skipped over and the award given to the next most qualified to receive it.
          • OOC: I don’t expect you to have super detailed masks! Just quickly emote it being pawn-like, knight-like, etc. if you want to, or just leave it how it is.
      • Houses will be given a color theme of either black or white to adhere to beforehand. Houses must adhere to this color theme, due to the second dance of the night’s specific intent.
        • Dress must be at least 70% the main color assigned.
        • It is encouraged by the Imperial Court to keep each family’s color assignment quiet until attending the ball, in order to enhance the second dance and lend excitement to the night. The number of Houses and Orders wearing each color will be even and ensured by the Court to produce the optimal array for pairing off.
        • Debutantes and bachelors must accent their clothing with scarlet, fashioned after the color of a beating heart.
        • Those not participating in the Whistledown season may accent their clothing with whichever color they like but must limit it to one. This color is encouraged to not be a House color, but it can be if truly desired. This color may not be scarlet, to prevent confusion.
        • Knights attending must seek out the Mistress of Conduces to have their colors assigned; the Mistress of Conduces will be arranging meetings with each House in the Imperial Progress or the Noble Lounge to give out colors, give tips, and answer questions as necessary.
      • Attendees must be dressed according to rank. Dress to the highest rank listed one has: for example, the Duke of Dinnan, who is a bachelor but also a Duke. The Duke would dress as a rook with the scarlet accents of the Whistledown participants, whereas the Duke of Solmarse would dress as a rook with any color's accent of his choice. Any further questions should be directed to the Mistress of Conduces.
        • Debutantes, bachelors, and untitled nobility will theme their outfits around the ‘pawn’ chess piece.
        • Knights, Palests, House Guards, and other staff will theme their outfits around the ‘knight’ chess piece, and wear armbands of accent colors.
          • Knights will wear solid colored armbands denoting their order. Some secondary colors have been chosen as to not conflict with outfit colors.
            • Blackguard Order will wear red.
            • Darkwald Order will wear navy.
            • Lion Pelt Order will wear gold.
            • Oranjen Order will wear orange.
            • Villiers-Eclaire Order will wear burgundy.
            • Viridian Order will wear green.
          • Palests, House Guards, and other staff will wear two-toned armbands denoting the colors of the House they serve.
            • All attending Palests, House Guards, and other staff must be registered with a letter to the Mistress of Conduces prior to the event.
              • OOC: Doesn’t have to be fancy, just “John Smith, Jane Doe, and Dave Dude are coming with House Example” will be enough! This can be either over Forum DM or in my Discord PMs, but it’s moreso just a check to see who’d be allowed in so no one spends money/time getting a matching skin just to get turned away because that’d suck. Shouldn’t happen, but just in case.
        • Curates and reverends will theme their outfits around the ‘bishop’ chess piece.
        • Titleholders and family heads will theme their outfits around the ‘rook’ chess piece.
        • The Imperial Family, the Royal Family, and Imperial Court officials will theme their outfits around the ‘queen’ and ‘king’ chess pieces.
          • The Mistress of Ceremonies will be wearing a tiara and a sash, as befitting her position as prime hostess of the evening.
          • The Imperial Family may wear crowns of their choosing.
          • The Royal Family may wear a crown or a tiara, depending on their rank within the family.
    • ᴇᴠᴇɴᴛ ᴍᴇᴄʜᴀɴɪᴄs
      • Attendees will be announced by full title upon arrival by an Imperial Herald. Timeliness is key; late attendees will not be announced, and oh, what a shame that would be!
      • There will be five dances of the night.
        • All dances had must be noted down in the given dance cards carried by noblewomen, which will be delivered to each family’s estate prior to the ball.
          • More information on dance cards will be forthcoming in the Sweetheart Code, which will see release in the next week.
        • The first dance will be opened by the highest-titled noble present and a partner of their choosing, after which, the rest of the attendees may take the floor. The opening noble may call the sort of dance (i.e. waltz, quadrille, or minuet), which all nobles therein will do their best to adhere to.
        • The second dance will require a pairing-off of dancers dressed in opposing colors. It is encouraged to leave this slot open on dance cards until the ball itself due to the secrecy of colors; extra time will be given between the first and second dances to allow for securing dances.
        • The third, fourth, and fifth dances will proceed with a moment’s break between each.
      • Awards will be given out at the end of the night based on pre-established criteria. Imperial Court officials, while allowed to dance and participate in the ball, are precluded from awards due to acting as judges for said awards and knowing the requirements ahead of time.
        • Each award given will carry a positive Conduces scoring that can potentially outweigh incurred Violations, as well as an attached title and distinction in the eyes of the Court.
          • Courtly titles will be noted as Master or Mistress of Title, and may be used in personal correspondence, invoked as evidence of higher court standing when necessary, or as material for upcoming Whistledown ratings.

    Dance Cards

A fine golden edging borders a checkered white and black marble, curling in and out in waves. The cover's lettering is done in fine gold, announcing The Checkmate Gala. The insides of the cover are ebony or ivory, depending on the family's assigned color of dress, and bear the woman's name written the same as their Conduces registration in the same gold as the cover. Bound within are few pages, as well as a provided Clockwork pen, done in a marbled style of primarily either white or black to contrast the interior of the booklet. The pens carry either red ink for debutantes, or navy for non-debuting women. The first page is dances, with information like song length and dance type, as well as blanks to fill in the nobles danced with. The second and third pages are provided blank; able to be torn out and passed for little notes of fancy or whimsy if desired.

Free to use gloves (white, cold shading):

    You are
    - Free to use them for this ball, next ball. Irdfc, go crazy go stupid lmao.
    - Just don't sell them as your own unless you made extensive edits to the point that it can't be recognized anymore. Else that'd be kinda scummy ngl.

The links will be deleted after the event, but you are free to keep and use the files if you've saved them for yourself. o7

I am looking at you, @Hell0There.
