Faction forums aren't being used much anyway, the lack of organization on which the threads were set out and the content placed in them was poor as well. From my point of view you can involve as much information as you can in a simple faction recruitment thread then that of a whole section of your faction. There are millions of factions on the server and it is painfully hard to maintain each and every one of them if everyone wanted a thread. Soon sharding will be implemented which will allow much more players onto the server meaning more factions and/or bigger factions meaning that this will even increase the difficulty.

These are excellent alternatives which give you free choises to manage your own forum with more powerful tools to decided what people can and cannot do.

Other then that, all the nodes of faction forums cause a large mess and extra moderation load on server maintenance, that is mainly why they are being removed.

I just did a quick check, and the only faction forums actively in use are Qarth, Osai and Kayolin. For the amount of space it holds on the forum and the extra moderation load, the negatives outweight the benefits. Besides, on a private forum you can decided who gets to see what, who gets to reply where and many more things. It opens up a much bigger number of possibilities to controlling your faction information online. We might look into replacing the faction forums with some sort of xenforo software in the future, but I don't see a reason to right now.

Indeed, I created a forum for The Republic today, just working out how to use it properly.

Because we need to give all players equality. If this was to progress beyond sharding the forum mods would have to spend 50% of their time in faction forums. We never deleted faction forums to begin with because it was too much work to go trough them and gauge the activity of the faction at hand.
