House Waldrick
(House Worl-drick)
Origin
Waldrick is an old house, it's name known but rather meaningless. It began as a poor, almost peasant family, trading in fish and working very closely with the peasantry. For a long time, the family seemed to exist stagnantly, until they gained the trust and allegiance of a relatively more prestigious and influential family, and supplied them peasant labour, gaining a small name for themselves. They became more and more passive and subservient to the family, until taking the supports out from under then, and switching to the side of an enemy family, retracting the aid they gave so the other family could take control and reap the reward, House Waldrick taking it's share. It is years later, after their new 'friends' shrugged them off, the house fell back to peasantry, a pattern seemed to emerge. House Waldrick scrambled from the streets with it's little power, clinging desperately to the largest house that would accept them, and reaped from the ruins as it fell. This repeated for many centuries, and seemed to be the way of life for the House for many years, so much so it's name had been disgraced, marked as traitorous, vile. Soon all swatted House Waldrick away. They earned the nickname 'The Rats', rodents that survived through scavenging, leaving the host dead in their parasitic wake. The house, then, forced to embrace the spreading mockery, changed their crest to include a rat, and the two soon became synonymous. The family then moved to Regalia, more recently, to pursue the prosperity it supposedly offered.
"Security in servitude"
The lineage of Waldricks all firmly believed, and still do, in utter loyalty and spinelessness in the face of their masters, Waldricks are known to be walked all over by those they serve, though the family strongly believes no one notices, nor bothers to bother, those beneath their feet.
Family Trade
House Waldrick hosts weekly soup kitchens and events for the lower peasantry, and recruit cheap labour in return for food and shelter and reasonable pay. This labour is sent out to overlook and complete small, or potentially larger building projects and the like, as well as gather some resources, occasionally trading in fish and other maritime trade, though the house's maritime capabilities are rather weak, with it being a small and rather poor house.
Family:
The Waldrick family is a moth-bitten one, with many unspoken of losses.
The following is a basic family tree of the current family:
Most family members listed above have pre-discussed general personalities and roles, but these are obviously loose and can be bent, added upon and developed past their current state:
Hildred Waldrick:
Not too unlike her children, she is a troubled old woman that has birthed and witnesses many more deaths than she'd of liked to, her past darker than most. Despite this, she is highly intelligent, sly and prides herself on her rather sassy nature, though has also grown to be more sharp and arrogant over the years. Even then - she deeply loves and protects her family. She is deeply protective and guarded in regards to Murrin.
Ronald Waldrick:
A stoic, traditionally masculine man, strongly embodies the views and traditions of the family, though is sometimes a bit too tradition with his beliefs. Ronald is often one to hide his feelings, and doesn't often show compassion to his family, seeing it as weak to bend the knee, though does so stubbornly, as is the way of the family Murrin leads. Though he would deny, he still deeply cares for his sons, daughters and grandchildren.
Paylon Waldrick:
A sly, mysterious woman, with a personality not easily tied down or understood. While she loyalty provides for the family, she is seen as more of a loose cannon, maliciously sharp and deceiving, she is a strong woman that gets what she wants, while being a fan of a fun time. Similarly, as is her nature, she switches back to compassionate and loving seemingly at will, gentle to her nieces, nephews and to an extend her siblings.
Rosa Waldrick:
Regarded as a scar in the family, the death of Rosa is the only real thing the family shares, and one that links them all closely together. Regarded as a scar in the family, the death of Rosa is the only real weakness the family shares, and one that links all members together. Rosa was a beautiful, intelligent and gentle young girl, adored by most and seen as a little angel by the family. In Hildred's opinion, the only 'pure' child she had caused.
Murrin Waldrick:
An eccentric, strange man - His fingers twitch with a paranoid greed, his eyes dart around with a slight craze, and his grease and musk leave you with an unwelcoming image , but behind this lies a deep intelligence, loyalty and protective nature. He is, however, visibly unhinged and unstable, though pleasant when familiar.
Rosa Waldrick:
Rosa is regarded by most to be very similar to her namesake, Payton calling her 'a rose among thorns', for the simple reason her striking kindness, openness and gentle nature so strongly contrast that of the family.
Application
NOTE:
I did not design this family to be an idyllic house. It is not noble, barely common, and will not be a pleasant bunch of people. A lot of the members are troubled and have issues, and this family is planned to go in quite a dark direction, so if you apply, be ready to discuss that with me.
