Prologue
The history of House Vandervelde goes back many generations, though much of this older history and it's records were overshadowed by the actions of the last three generations up till the present day.
Origins
The year was 233 AC. After unforeseen tragedy at the hands of many male deaths in military service over the last decade, two suicides by widows, and one death by broken heart, the Vandervelde family was, a mere dry oak leaf falling silently in the approaching winter breeze. None of those that passed bore any children and Luken soon found himself the only Vandervelde remaining. Being a young Anglian lad of the Verreland, Luken was raised by what remained of the family's elite family guard, the Wolves of Verreland. They raised the boy into a young man, making him essentially a member of the very guards made to defend the family, by extent, himself. This sense of brotherhood drew extreme loyalty of the men. The Family lands of Alexanderburg, west of the crown isle served as his home till 242 AC when Luken decided to put himself to the test, serving wherever needed by the empire over the next two years.
In 243 AC, Luken Vandervelde was visiting Regalia, attending a noble assembly when he spotted a lovely young woman across from him. Marthas Reinhardt, an New Regalian nobleman's daughter. Caught in his flirtatious acts, the young man found himself soon removed from the meeting. That evening, Marthas found her way to where he was staying in the city and offered him a chance to properly treat her to a night out, redeeming himself for his foolishness earlier that day. Surprised, the young man accepted her offer and after a few hours out, Luken felt his attitude changing from hormonal attraction, to sincere admiration. Marthas showed interest in the elevation of humanity, true Unionistic values, and a headstrong attitude, to which Luken simply admired, and in the coming months, loved about her. After a few months of courtship, and approval from Marthas' father, the two became engaged, and later, married. This is what is considered the true beginning of the Vandervelde Family in the Holy city of Regalia. After marriage and a few kids later, Vandervelde seemed more like a family again. After a decade more of servitude to Regalia, Luken retired to become a well respected Officer. Luken turned his focus to other military matters, such as the elite family guards who raised him. He had come to realize how valuable the group of men were, but more importantly the disipline and honor they represented. With that, Luken sought ways to improve individual and efficency, as well as taking the advice of his wife, offering all members a standard education in academics and military history to ensure free thought and spontaneous thinking on the field of battle, hence increasing their efficency and indoctrination. Marthas enacted a plan for more education for those living in Verreland as well. She believed it was for the general well being of all Humanity to advance and uplift it's people. However, there was a new ambition around the cornor. This came about in 272 AC in the form of the eldest son of the two, Alaric Vandervelde, and hence the rise of the House Vandervelde began.

However, there was a new ambition around the cornor. This came about in 272 AC in the form of the eldest son of the two, Alaric Vandervelde, and hence the rise of the House Vandervelde began.
Rise of House Vandervelde
The late 270's was a time of confused sentiment as Regalia suffered a prolonged period referred to as the Regalian Pessimism. This two decade long period was dominated by a massive decrease in nationalist sentiment among Regalians, as well as the decline of the Unionist faith among the empire's people. With a series of corrupt Chancellors and weak Emperors, the Empire started to move into a steady decline.
At the same time, in 272 AC, Alaric Vandervelde, the first born son of the now Count Luken Vandervelde. He was a young solider for the Regalian military, having graduated from the Viridan Order and following his father before him as he received training among the family guard. With extended knowledge and education from his mothers education initiative across Verreland and military upbringing from the family guard and his father, the young man impressed often for his age, both in mind and action. Over time, and with dedication, he grew as he served, eventually becoming a renown Paladin of the Viridian Knights, known as the Bear Knight of Verreland. Alaric was also well educated in pathfinding and excelled in small scale incursions and missions with a small force of skilled warriors, often turning the tide of battles before they occurred.
Alaric's father started to worry his son was too patriotic, especially for the times, and far too embroiled in military affairs to which Alaric saw his father as giving in to the times of Regalian Perssimism. Once Alaric achieved his rank of Paladin, he'd collect take what skills and knowledge he had acquired and taught a variety of skilled field commanders from his experience as well as knights. As a result, even those of other knight orders respected the man, even if they did not like that he was a Viridian.
His younger brother, Hugo Vandervelde took on after Alaric and served under his brother as a member of the Wolves of Verreland. Their little sister, Roselyn was a shop owner in Regalia, extending the food shipments from Alexanderburg to other parts of the Regalian Archepelego. Roselyn and Hugo worked to increase investments in Vandervelde helde farms in Verreland, as well as hire agrarian expertise to share and teach the latest Agricultural advancement to farmers on the island, reflecting education as a true value to the AVandervelde family. Eventually, Alaric revisited the Wolves of Verreland as his father had prior and reorganized it to serve as the new Vanguard for Vandervelde forces and in the defense of all of Verreland.

The Wolves of Verreland
Alaric had... to put it simply, an obsession, with crafting the most elite men he could into the tip of the spear for Verreland armies, seeing the tension arise between Lokinge due to Verreland's lack of execcive opression of the Old Gods minority on the island as well as economic and livelihood jealousy. The Verreland at this time was simply doing much better, and standards of living were rising due avoiding economic clapose during the Regalian Pessimism as well as a more educated and hence, skilled workforce. To ensure the survival of Verreland, Alaric began utilizing the Houses military force, which adopted the name of the house guard of generations pass, called the Wolves of Verreland. From assisting the local populous, to dealing with bandits and pirates, or simply providing security, this actions would popularize House Vandervelde and the Wolves of Verreland as in the best interest of all of Verreland.

Growth and Expansion
After visiting the holy city with his brother Alaric, Hugo worried that his brother was not properly running the family. Much of the economic management fell to him and Roselyn. Roselyn recommended to Hugo that perhaps it was time to "introduce" their older brother Alaric to some noble woman, as, he was expected to produce a heir after all. The mischievous pair of younger siblings soon decided on Roselyn's close friend, Maria, a local noblewoman of a fellow Verreland House. Though, at first, Alaric was not interested in the woman, he did befriend her. Maria too was not so fond of the arranged date, though over time, they grew on one another with similar ambitions for their people.
Eventually, Alaric and Maria would court and marry, uniting the two families under the Vandervelde name, as well as the southwestern corner of the isle, only sharing the Westwall Forest with House Tyrannian to the North whom they held shaky but peaceful relations with as both houses were prominate upcoming powers for Verreland supremacy. The couple would eventually have a son by the name of Theodore Vandervelde in 275 AC. After which, Alaric took up establishing and funding farms, along with his brother Hugo over the next two years, and trade routes. With the assistance of his sister Roselyn and her husband Lucian who had connections with merchants in Regalia as they lived in the city. Not long after this, Alaric's wife Maria gave birth to a daughter in 276 AC, naming her Lunia Vandervelde. Over the next three years from 277 AC till 280 AC, Alaric made a name for House Vandervelde in terms of food production, and military prowess in those crucial years, for the empire rose imperialistically once more with the outbreak of the Chrysant War in 286 AC. Alaric gained a well known reputation among many, even their enemies. Famous for incursions before a major advancement by the army. The tactic was later replicated by his son, Theodore during the Elven Resurgence in Spring, 304 AC.
As the war dragged out over many years, and with the Regalian Pessimism still causing a decline, even in times of war, Vandervelde was ironically thriving off the war. Exports of food to specified noble armies with plots of land rented and paid monthly by noble houses for their armies, playfully called "food insurance", drastically altered Vandervelde income overnight. This combined with their efforts during the war sealed them a notable stance as a known noble house, even allowing them to expand across the entire southern half of Verreland, from the Westwall to the Eastern shores peering across the channel to Lokinge. This carried on till the end of the war in autumn of 291 AC. Unfortunately, every rise has a equal crash, and though the Empire started to rebound, Vandervelde started to decline.

Turmoil and Rebirth
Things carried on like this over the next 12 years. Then, the Songaskian Invaded the holy city and assaulted much of the archipelago. Alaric fought in numerous battles, though the larger and overwhelming Songaskian armies soon took it's toll. Set back, after set back, loss after loss. The Wolves of Verreland gained a reputation however, for their intense combat and stubbornness to give in to the enemy, enough to burn into the minds of the enemy, who called them shadow dancers, or more often, eclipse soldiers, in reference to being the opposite of their will, by extent their sun gods will. Unfortunately, Alaric was badly injured in battle and due to his injury, required a cane occasionally, no longer able to effectively fight. In the ranks of his men. Alaric's son, Theodore, who at 26, was left to lead what had remained of the Vandervelde forces. However, like his father before him, he impressed, though suffered defeats more then victories due to the shear ratio of being outnumbered. Once the war ended Alaric formally bestowed control of House Vandervelde to his son, Theodore Vandervelde in 302 AC. Alaric took to assisting his son in taking on such responsibility while retiring to domestic affairs in Verreland.
Theodore, who himself was now a Viridian Paladin known as the Wolf of the Veer, built a reputation as a result of his feats in the war, began to take heed of his uncle, Hugo, and meet with other houses to establish good relations and trade partnerships. Theodore soon befriend many merchants and nobles due to his charasmatic nature. When Luken passed in 303 AC, Theodore mourned, parting from his grandfather's watchful gaze and noted his father's silent depression of the lost. The family suffered as Alaric grew distant with Theodore. Now under Theodore Vandervelde as family head in 305 AC, the family of intelligent entrepreneurs was now on the verge of using its assets in Regalia and at home to make a name for itself once more, entering its own Rebirth in trade and food production, while at the height of it's military prowess.

The Veer Wars
Early on, Theodore was aware of the threat facing the Verreland from Lokinge, often called the "Mainland" or "Mainlanders" by their Verreland Anglian brothers. With the rise of House Harhold and it's rapid conquest of Lokinge, it was only a matter of time before Harhold made a move on the island, already requesting that each of the four major houses, Carwell, Claudio, Tyrannian and Vandervelde submit to Harhold rule.
Alaric had long prepared the island for such a threat, as well as his son Theodore, though nobody could be prepared for what was to become known as the Veer Wars. To counter an emanate invasion, Theodore gathered the other three houses to discuss an Alliance on the premise of survival and preserving the Verreland way of life, which by now, while similar culturally, held many different and unique values to that of Lokinge. Theodore would seal an Allaince at the conference of Alexanderburg and establish the Verreland Coalition. Early on, the coalition, while established by Vandervelde, was not lead by a single house, but worked as a unilateral military entity to repel the much larger Harhold army.
The first invasion in the Spring came and was repelled by the Coalition, sparking a fervor in Verreland identity. As the summer went on, Houses Carwell declined and Claudio dissolved, it's lands acquired by Tyrannian who schemed to control the island. This put Vandervelde in a tough position to resist Harhold but maintain unity of the island. Ultimately, leadership of the Coalition was given to Tyrannian, however, nearly the entire establishment of it's values was done so my Vandervelde as a terms of yielding leadership. When the Veer Wars kicked into it's second faze, it soon became the largest scale conflict in Anglian history, and spread from the Colonies to the Northern cultures, Calemberg, and Lokinge itself.
Ultimately, the Coalition would succeed, inflicting up to nearly one-hundred and fifty thousand estimated casualties alone on it's invaders, nearly two-thirds from Lokinge, and assuring it's indepenece. As a side effect, however, the four houses were no longer in noble position, and the Coalition became the United Verreland, a collection of many smaller houses.

Rekindled Fire of Vandervelde
After many years of serving the community upon Verreland, House Vandervelde has gained back a graceful standing amoung both Verreland's people and leaders, who lack a powerful noble leader. The goal of House Vandervelde is to finally unite all of Verreland under one house and stable system that promotes economic development, education and growth of the values of the people, regardless of creed.
