    Traditional Garb ⊱・゚

» Traditional garb for the Syll’bess’aos family goes hand-in-hand with the La Fra’ae band’s garb. Heavy influence from the Avanth Hortutor, the family’s homeland, began to present itself in the form of dyed bison leathers, particularly bracers, belts, and bands of varying colours. These leather garments often are decorated by copper or silver bells accompanied by elven glyphs when used for prayer to the Strong Six, although these customs only arose in late 306 AC.

» Older customs included feathers, often collected from birds of prey, made into intricate headdresses that would be used before a battle, their purpose being to strike fear into the enemy. Current customs have almost entirely abandoned this tradition bar their use in prayer or once a year memorial marking the date of the Royal Encampment massacre. Warpaint has the same customs, although it can be worn casually.
Much like casual garb, the Cielothar of the La Fra’ae tribe would often be responsible for creating patterned wear specifically for prayer and rituals.

» The usage of Casecabillas stallion skulls are commonplace among the family given the deep history with the animal. It is a tradition that when your first steed dies and if able, you collect the skull to carry the spirit onward. Some individuals wear these skulls during prayer to look through the ‘eyes’ of this lightning-fast horse and be guided while doing so.

» For those who are not as keen to use a Casecabillas stallion skull are inclined to carve their own variants from wood or other bone masks; deer or other animals from the Avanth Hortutor. The reasons for these separate masks may differ, although their purposes are almost always ceremonial.

    Everyday Garb ⊱・゚

» Much like traditional garb, the usage of feathers, warpaint, and leathers are used. The only differences are that feathers are not to be worn as headdresses, but rather made into earrings or hung from a necklace pendant.

» Warpaint is optional and may be worn casually, although, to many of the band’s Avanthar, tattoos or scarification will be preferred given its permanency and ease.

» Leathers are also a staple in everyday wear, specifically bracers and belts of varying sizes. Leather is often not dyed or altered in many ways in order to specify the difference between prayer garb and casual wear.

» Throughout the years, the usage of Cielothar beads and jewelry became commonplace and incorporated into everyday wear. Patterned clothing, specifically those with intricate swirling patterns tastefully placed, made their way into the Syll’bes’saos wardrobe. Syll’bess’aos men and women were not exempt from these new Cielothar styles, nor were they exempt from the usage of full robes or half robes; Robes akin nearly to Atalarian style.

    Family History ⊱・゚

» The Syll’bess’aos family was officially created within the southern portion of the Avanth Hortutor in early 120 AC after the union of Eill’aen Syll’bess’aos and Vei’ao’lloa Syll’ullan. The pair, both having hailed from the same band within the T’ojken tribe, proceeded to take upon leading positions as protall together; They became well known and generally approved of due to their strong, collective virtues; strength, courage, and loyalty. These virtues were well absorbed in by the clans they hailed from and as such, would pass them down to their single son; Ill’aen’dros. Strength was portrayed as physical might due to their Gwae Sul and School of Avant background. Courage was portrayed via protecting the weak, an Avanthar tradition since the birth of the Avanthar themselves and finally loyalty being the simplest; Fight for your fellow Avanth and stay at their side always.

» Ill’aen’dros was the pair’s first and last son, subjecting the young warrior to scrutiny amongst some of the radical tribesmen in their band. These men and women had noted to Ill’aen’dros that his parents had hardly completed their duties of strengthening the tribe, that numerical strength would often outweigh individual might. It was a silent and yet growingly popular opinion, even amongst the couple’s respective clans, that would ultimately lead to the destruction of the pair’s positions; Tribesman believed they were unfit to teach their children the ways of the Avanthar when neither Eill’aen nor Vei’ao’lloa could abide by spreading their genos appropriately.

» As Ill’aen’dros’ parents were thrown from their positions, the blossoming man unionized with a woman by the name of Lae’ao’en. Quickly, Ill’aen’dros’ infidelity became apparent and drove an early wedge between the couple while he created bastard sons with those who he deemed to be ‘strong’ or ‘healthy’. His dastardly deeds were performed in the name of strength and glory, a new virtue he seemed to adopt, while ultimately abandoning loyalty. Loyalty, which was instilled generations within the bloodlines of the Avanthar, was listed as a typical nagging expectation in comparison to the want and the need for power via growth.

» In the year 200, Ill’aen’dros was named the clan’s official patriarch given the passing of his father, Eill’aen. Lae’ao’en, however, was the acting figure between the pair as she remained behind while her husband frequently departed. With this lagging period of absence, Ill’aen’dros would father nearly a dozen more bastard sons with the intention of one day bringing each of them to his territory for integration into the clan.

» When Ill’aen’dros arrived back to the camp, he was not only shadowed by those he had brought with him prior to his departure, but rather a throng of Url. He had also been transformed into a beastman which enraged Lae’ao’en and a majority of the clan due to their traditional beliefs. It was decided then that the issue, should it not be resolved, be brought to the Cabäss and Pië’ssa of the T’ojken tribe. Seemingly in attempts to prevent such an action from occurring, Ill’aen’dros offered self-exile as a choice in which Lae’ao’en and the clansmen accepted. Unbeknownst to the clan, however, Ill’aen’dros had no intentions of self exiling and would instead forcefully transform nearly half of the forty member band into Url. Ultimately, with the clan splitting due to the unwilling transformations and fleeing of some, blood would be shed and a new belief would be born; the next step to life is Url-dom.

» Throughout the next decade, chaos finally began to settle throughout the Syll’bess’aos clan and throng, however, silent feuds remained. Hundrolos, an Url bastard of Ill’aen’dros, grew conflicted as the family he had just been greeted with, were split in loving and hating him, which merely became a common theme for the years to come. Those of the Syll’bess’aos line that refused to become Url threatened to split from the clan and even the tribe while those who were Url already argued that Url-dom was the next advancement to their esteemed virtue; strength. Eventually, however, those who did not wish to participate in this foreign way of thinking did, in fact, depart from the clan to create one under the name of La Fra’ae; a name that by definition refers to as ‘The Free’. The clan was created by Lae’ao’en, Ill’aen’dros’ previous wife who had left with her children as a symbolism of the pain and neglect she had shared due to her absent husband.

» The years since the split were relatively peaceful. The La Fra’ae’s ranks rose with Lae’ao’en finding a new love who joined her in ruling the family under her word. Lae’ao’en used these years to raise her children and have three more with her new partner, Ull’aen. The family only faced one casualty, which sprung forth in 274 AC where three Syll’bess’aos members were slaughtered during a failed raid on an Orcon settlement.

» In 295 AC, the Ranger Crisis began to stir in the Avanth states which struck the Syll’bess’aos family with fear given the tragedy that had arisen only two decades prior. Lae’ao’en and Ull’aen deemed the Orcon an immediate threat and began to migrate themselves and their people to the northern border of the Avanth Hortutor.

» Meanwhile, Ill’aen’dros’ side of the family, along with Hundrolos, actively participated in raids against the Orcon in attempts to remove them from their lands. Casualties were faced on both sides, however, ultimately the throng was nearly crippled, leaving them to also migrate to a safer portion of the Hortutor.
The Ranger Crisis passed, however, and thus both bands were left to repair the damage that the Orcon had inflicted upon them. Now, Ill’aen’dros and his throng began to actively seek out the La Fra’ae for reunification. The reunion, which came a year later, was bittersweet; The Throng was welcome, however under the condition that they abide by Lae’ao’en and Ull’aen’s leadership and ruling.

» While loyalty had lost its meaning with the generation of Ill’aen’dros, strength remained at the forefront for many years to come. This came in the form of encouraging and often requiring, the young ones of the Syll’bess’aos line to participate in the Casecabilo; Horse Hunt. The tradition stemmed from the School of Avant, a practice within the Hortutor that’s taken place since the dawn of the Avanthar themselves. This was not the only option for these aspiring Syll’bess’aos lines as Gwae Sul mercenary techniques began to sprout from those like Ill’aen’dros who were raised to be an elite. With these being the only true options, years passed before Cielothar refugees also spread the word of Atraves to those wishing for polearm combat.

» In 302 AC, the Elven War shook the clan and throng as chaos reached even their borders. Rage ensued from those within the tribe, however, most were left untouched. With the news of the Gwae Sul’s victory against the Regalian’s spreading, it caused a month of celebration for the Gwae Sul Syll’bess’aos blood.

» Only two years after the war, a new crisis set foot in the Ularen Wastes. The Bone Horrors invaded the plains without prejudice and brought terror to the Avanthar for months, as they did Aloria as a whole. Thankfully, the Syll’bess’aos line suffered no casualties, however, tales of the crisis will be spread from generation to generation for centuries to come.

» Throughout the history of the Syll’bess’aos family, no tragedy could compare to that of the Royal Encampment massacre of 306 AC. Not only did this leave those of the line scrambling, confused, and furious, but it unwillingly enveloped the states into a civil war. The Syll’bess’aos line and La Fra’ae tribe were not exempt from this fact as even the Avanthar blood began to turn on one another. Feuds were brought to light and the Elders and Chieftains who were normally tasked with handling the sour situations were busy with the crisis. Tragedy among the Syll’bess’aos line became apparent in horrific ways; Lae’ao’en was slaughtered along with her husband, Ull’aen, by clansmen in a cowardly attempt at seizing power. With the newfound loss, Fae’ess’alloa, the Granddaughter of Lae’ao’en and Ull’aen, banished the trio and any who agreed with their decision. Of course, this decision was not as simple as it was led to be, as it provoked a riot between differing beliefs. Ill’aen’dros and his throng promptly ceased the brief conflict, however suffering the loss of Ill’aen’dros two weeks later due to sepsis from an untreated wound. By this point, the Throng departed from the La Fra’ae given the loss of their leader.

» Fae’ess’alloa, the newly appointed matriarch of the clan learned of the Avanth Himvatheer settling their civil war and welcoming peace. Grasping onto this piece of information with a fraction of hope, she guided her clan to the foreign state where, upon conviction, they were welcomed into a band belonging to the Ravän tribe. There, the Syll’bess’aos clan suffered another fracture as those who could not handle the change departed back to the Hortutor.

» The Syll’bess’aos line now rests in the southern portion of the Avanth Himvatheer under the banner of the Ravän tribe. They have since resigned their traditions of the Hortutor as just that, traditions. Ceremonies dedicated to the Strong Six incorporate aspects of the Hortutor such as feathers, dyed leathers, and warpaint. Fae’ess’alloa now leads the Syll’bess’aos family as the running matriarch with hopes of successfully creating a bridge of communication between the plains and Regalia. All members of the family are active in this aspect.

    Family Biology ⊱・゚

» Syll’bess’aos males are often born with thick, midnight black hair that they tend to leave untamed later in life; Often patterns of flowing symbols or runes are carved into the hairs on the sides of their heads. Heights and physiques are average for Avanthar males, however, outliers are not uncommon.

» Females often don black hair with braids and beads for cultural significance. Unlike the common Avanthar ideal of hair never reaching below the ribs, Syll’bess’aos women may be seen with hair as long as waist level. Heights range similarly to the males of the Syll’bess’aos line(s). Physiques remain average.

    · · ──────────────────────── ·· ──────────────────────── · ·

    Family Mentality ⊱・゚

» While admittedly a majority of the Syll’bess’aos line frequently have short fuses or show to be highly emotional, it is a recent custom, if not a requirement made by the new matriarch, to hide these outward emotions. Stoicness, shyness, and even levelled caution is welcome in order to protect the family and keep a clean reputation to advance in society and bring a new appearance to the Avanthar as a whole screamer mentality is unwelcome.
