    HOUSE SORENVIK

"Only the Gods will See us Fall"

    Family History
(Stolen shamelessly from @Shuikenai and @Ryciera)

The North breeds hard people and the house Sorenvik is no exception to this. The history of the name Sorenvik is one that dates back two hundred years. A family that gained some prominence after fighting in several Regalian conflicts and distinguishing themselves as able soldiers, the family became known for prowess on the field of battle. The monarchy took notice of the family, taking them on as hired blades to defend their seats from any upstart Northerners. After years of service, King Krumme granted them their own land in Midtenna, a small village named Lillenstrand. With the recent conflicts across Regalia, House Sorenvik is lacking men, a great deal of the extended family dying during. With the lacking of working men and sword arms, the family had originally come to Regalia to seek more fortune and able bodied men and women.

No Sorenvik forgets that their noble line started from the blood of fishermen. For almost as long as Nordskag has stood, there lived an enclave of fishers and other sea-farers in the southern swathes of Midtenna. It was this way until the men and women found that fishing was not as profitable as it could be. A downward spiral of dropping market prices and a lack of catch drove the family to taking their boats and people across the North and Aloria, seeking fortune and glory. The Sorenviks were known for organizing raiding parties, to the bane of coastal towns and cities. Though the practice was somewhat looked down upon, no one could deny that they fought well for their ill-gotten gains. Their spirited nature brought them to prominence, and one Soren Sud-Lillen received favor from the king for his prowess upon the sea. His swift navigation through the waters and service as a royal courier granted him dominion over his home lands. His sons and daughters bore the house name Sorenvik, for they were of Soren’s blood and from the bays, ‘Vik’ in Skodje, of Lillenstrand.

The family Sorenvik found themselves mentioned often in the footnotes of Nordskaggian history. One of their most prominent appearance was of Soren’s granddaughter, Ellika. Using her feminine wiles and cutthroat ambition, she gained the love of a Nordskaggian’s baron and through him, brought a civil war down upon several neighboring regions. She remained alive and well until long after the deposing of her baronial lover, when a vengeful relative murdered her out of hatred and jealousy. This belligerence was met with a blood feud, and the direct line of the man was hunted down and eliminated by Ellika’s relatives and descendants. Though there have been many other instances of the family stepping in to mediate conflicts, it’s usually through bloodshed and battle that they manage to get anything done.

The current power of Sorenvik is split in two. On one hand is the main line, taking their family name of yore, who own the lands of Lillenstrand and command men at the grace of Markus Krumme. The other is the af Lillen, a competitive rival branch who lord over the waterways that the Sorenviks should own. All around the two Sorenvik lines are envious baronial families who seek to take control of the town of Lillenstrand.

After Aker Sorenvik’s passing, Eira, his eldest daughter, led a group of her siblings and family friends to Regalia to expand their numbers and seek new fortunes. The culture shock between Regalian nobility and the newfound Nordskag nobility caused a number of immediate disputes. Despite that, with the splitting of the Violet Order, Eira stepped up to lead a guard charter, the Hammers of Holmganga. With Eira and Halfrida as their figureheads, the Hammers carved out their role in the Regalian guard society. Holmganga was ruthless and cutthroat, often coming down hard on crime. Despite that, they rarely held prisoners and often found alternative ways for criminals to repent, either by manual labor under Kaya Sorenvik, public lashings from the matriarch, or a duel to settle disputes. It wasn’t uncommon for the Hammers to throw parties and feasts to help blow off steam, either.

As time went on, the rift between the house Sorenvik and other members of nobility grew. The Sorenviks gained notoriety in dictating their own ways and pursuing their own solutions to problems that arose. In particular, conflicts grew between the highest members of the House Sorenvik, and the youngest members of the House Kade. Both parties worked with a number of questionable organizations to further knock the other down, and serious injury or trauma from one side or the other was not uncommon. As conflict escalated, Eira and Halfrida were eventually punished and imprisoned. But their fate was left in limbo when Freya Lo rose to power.

Since then, Eira Sorenvik has passed away and the second eldest, Dagmar, has taken over as matriarch for the family back in Nordskag. While the Sorenviks work to regain the power they once had, questions linger surrounding the current members of the family. Rumors have circulated about a union between the House Barlowe and House Sorenvik, and others suggest that Halfrida is the promised heir to the family’s assets.

More recently, Kaya has been left to fend for the family in Regalia while the rest of her sisters brave the conflict in Nordskag. The Hammers of Holmganga have been reformed under Kaya’s leadership, and some distant relatives have joined up with her. Under the military leadership of Gryft Sorenvik, and naval experience of Brynjar Sorenvik, the family shows a brighter future within the Archipelago.

Just pointing this out, you still have Dagmar listed as the matriarch.
