Family History
House Kraus has existed for a long period of time though any recorded material of the earliest beginnings were lost, destroyed, or simply ceased to be relevant. The family had a long lineage, but the first recovered physical documentation of a person with Kraus as a surname was around the date of 220 AC, and a plethora of notebooks detailed the entire life of a fisherman by the name of Tommus Kraus. The notebooks began by explaining a small family's travel to Essalonia after the Regalian empire had researched the island in 240 AC, and the notebooks covered their initial arrival, sinking ships, and their travelling into the forest. The family had built their own houses at a fjord where they would fish first for their own survival, and then to try and trade with the other settlers, however they were not skilled at fishing whatsoever. After Tommus had learned he could not use fishing in order to provide for his newly situated family he worked as a handyman and fixed peoples homes, but eventually he would move on to more advanced works such as stone-setting and bricks with the help of other family members. With a few docks the family still maintained fishing, but primarily as a secondary hobby to an actual business venture, but they were still below average in wealth because of the hardships they faced in the very wild and unreformed area of Essalonia they had settled. After the destruction of Old Ceardia and the refugees came en masse the family really began to sprout their passion for stone masonry and carpentry as they started to groom their business with the new settlers. They built everyday, and with the constant stream of new clients they could continue to build for the new arrivals.
The Family quickly began to build their franchise around the refugees who came to Essalonia as they had too many clients they had to privately contract themselves to the other Regalian families that surrounded them. After a while their business flourished with the constantly increasing list of clientele. As the family business continued to prosper other nearby families would begin to catch on and with all the immigrants other skilled craftsmen came and the land began to become oversaturated with builders which made the family deal with a lot more competition than they were used to. With more an more family members becoming ingrained with the Regalian military, that being primarily the males of the family, the family had less forces working the cogs of industry. As men went on to support the military in the coming wars the females continued to work on the business of construction and various other crafts as most males left home. Because of the importance that military held in the family a lot of the family began to shift from working on architecture and stone which also helped to empower the surrounding competition of outside contractors that allowed for the darkest age of the family in which their work beside military had ceased. With most the men being off in foreign lands defending or attacking at the whim of their generals the female members of the family were in charge of a failing business, which was attributed to the large influx of immigrants from Ceardia and the North. However, the family did not stop their work on stonemasonry, they instead sought more seedy methods to continue the business which happened to be things like price gouging their competition, stealing loyal families from competitors, and selective diplomacy along with passing gossip and secrets. Inevitably, the family would begin to look back on these days as a stain on their history as they took to such unhonorable methods to bolster their craft, instead of actually focusing on their mastery.
Some of the accounts continue to describe the various underhandedness of the family members as they were going tooth and fang to crawl back to relevance under the suffocation they received with the constant competition. However, such topics would be irrelevant in the history as most is hearsay as the accounts conflict with one another in terms of just how brutal and barbaric the family became at this time. What is known, however, is that the family did eventually get out of this rut by focusing much more on their own unique, cultural style which blended what is now considered Old-Regalian styles and cultural signaling from Essalonian beginnings that became popular among the more elite and original families that settled in the land before they were filled with others. This style, which the family had experimented with before, only became popular after they had gone through such a dark period of history which saw most of the female family members focusing on the art of sculpting and architecture. With a strong knowledge of stone and jewels the family could create more advanced structures as they read drafts and plans from elder family members. Because of their literacy they could also study the more famous architects that had become renowned in Regalia along with other societies as they began to evolve their own architectural style into an art-form, and not just a necessity for survival. Because of such a drastic shift in their style they were once more pioneering into the stonemasonry business but with a new paradigm. As the new and much more fancier style was birthed from the artistic sense of the females at the head of the business the family also noticed their frivolous spending on jewelry and other such feminine delights which would lead to the males taking the dominant role of leadership over the business while the women were the workhorses of the industry. However, jewelry still holds relevance in the family as the hobby of jewelry crafting became a sudden and strong pastime of the female members. While females were usually required to go to business schools and learned to read the intelligent drafts of old architecture they would also take on art schools and learn how to paint and visualize things in a creative way. The male members of the family were mainly pushed in the direction of military and leadership they began to drift further from the arts as they had original been, and began to work mostly in military schools as instructors or on the field as soldiers and even generals. Officially, the two pillars of the family were publically seen as architecture being the foundation for their militaristic passions. While most the family remains in Essalonia with memberships in the Essalonian stonemason guild, a fair amount moved to Regalia under their patriarch as they followed him in his military exploits and began a branch of family that will now subside in family hoping to begin the business in their original homeland. While most the men are in the military serving elsewhere, a good amount of the females have began to play with the idea of sprouting the family business in the Crown City.

Personality Traits:
- Loyal: Each and every Kraus member are loyal to themselves, loyal to their family, and loyal to their friends. They carry this personality trait with pride and it is one of their strongest traits. This can often times be seen as rewarding considering their loyalty to the Empire can result in long lasting rewards given to them, along with the respect that is earned with such a trait.
- Motivated: Whether it comes to serving the military dutifully or finishing one last bust in stone the family is always moving forward towards a goal to achieve something, somewhere. When they are actively pursuing something they are not weak, but firm with their desire.
- Solemn: The Kraus fall toward the extreme end of the spectrum when it comes to formality. Every matter they concern themselves in is one of great gravity and their occasionally somber demeanor is a reflection of this. Their prim comportment is, essentially, a survival skill in the world of courtly politics.
