House Keen, straying from the usual precedent of families in the Empire, ascended from Commoner to Nobility through meticulous and steady growth of their meritorious reputation. Beginning from insignificance and irrelevance upon the great white mountains of Genevaud, House Keen rose to prominence within a single decade by the fastidious works of its singular founding member, Alaric Keen, a name now familiar in both the highest reaches and lowest corners of Regalia. Born within Genevaud to a convoluted ancestry of three cultures intertwined, Alaric’s mother was Breizh born, coming from a long line of New Regalians who had settled in Kintyr to avoid the warfare that brought calamity to their Calem regions. On the other side, his father was Genevaud, though also descended from a bloodline of New Regalians. Having been born in a Kreiburg owned stronghold, Alaric constantly involved himself from a young age in the works of a warrior.

As Alaric reached maturity, he was quickly recruited into a mercenary company by the Patriarch of House Kreiburg himself, Diepold Kreiburg. In accordance with his duties, Alaric frequently was shipped across the archipelago, taking jobs from those far and near to earn money to support himself and the rest of the company. It was during this time that Alaric changed his last name to Keen, an effort to conform to Imperial standards and culture. After several years, the Kreiburg patriarchy was sent down to Theopold Kreiburg, Diepold’s son, after his sudden retirement. The family also found itself rising to the peerage, and so they decided to move the central court of their family to the Holy City itself. With House Kreiburg’s ascension to Nobility and relocation to Regalia, Alaric accompanied the family as a House Guard. Within a short period of time, Alaric was recognized for meritorious service and appointed as Captain of the Kreiguard Mercenaries.

Requiring a register as a State Mercenary Charter in order to function, Alaric brought his men before Lord Chancellor Louis Delmotte at the Delmotte castle. Impressed by Alaric’s presentation and the quality of his men, the Lord Chancellor granted their charter, alongside a private contract to burn the Lich Lord’s library of heretical texts in the sewers. Over the course of the following days, the Kreiguard trained incessantly, and when the time came Alaric led his men to absolute and decisive victory against the Lich Lord. Completely razing the demonic entity’s library, Alaric and his men purged from the city a terrible dark presence. To honor the company of their works, the Holy Divine Inquisition was created by the Chancellor, placing the members of the company which Alaric had commanded now as a Regalian Guard Charter. Alaric, as Captain of the Mercenary Company, was conferred the role of High Inquisitor. Alongside his men, other Unionist charters joined him in the Inquisition, notably the Marienretter Order and the old Inquisition. It took very little time for Alaric to discover the true horrors of Regalia, his work as Mercenary Captain and later High Inquisitor subjecting him unquestionably to the most lurid dredges of society. On the grand city’s main streets walked emissaries of the void, sanguines, werebeasts, and other such heretical and aberrant afflictions that utterly repulsed Alaric. It was in this time that the race of demonic creatures known as Clickers came to terrorize the city. A culmination of these factors compelled Alaric to devote himself to annihilating the plague of unspeakable horrors which infected society, and restore the city to its former purity and glory.

At this period, a treasonous plot was uncovered between House Kreiburg and another Noble House, leading to the Inquisition expelling the Kreiburgs from their ranks, and acted to pursue another direction devoid of such corruption. Also following these events, Wolvard Harhold, previously Kreiburg, formed Noble House od Albion alongside the head of the Marienritter, a man named Tyrael. To avoid the mischief of Kreiburg, Alaric joined as the House Guard Captain of the family, feeling a familiar bond to the family. In the coming weeks, the Inquisition would be disbanded, and as such Alaric returned to complete irrelevance. Nevertheless, he remained a man that worked tirelessly to further his contribution to the Great Way, and his eyes looked for no power except what the Spirit granted him. He viewed it as a humble beginning. Alaric would then move on to form the Ivory Company alongside House od Albion. At the behest of Hengest Harhold, Alaric joined in a legal effort to vote out the Chancellor. However, after the effort was misconstrued, Alaric found himself detained within Krakenburg alongside his men, to be tried for treason against the Empire for what was said to be an illegal coup attempt. It was only after weeks of abuse and torture that Alaric would be released, found innocent of all accusations, though retaining a scar of trauma on his soul.

Some time after, House od Albion relinquished its peerage title, bringing about an end of their tenure within the archipelago. In order to continue his efforts to purge the vile and corrupt, Alaric returned to House Kreiburg as a Palest. Within a few months, Alaric was adopted into the family in recognition of his lifetime of faithful service. However, conflict between Alaric and Diepold’s son, Theopold, caused an impasse to grow in the family. In order to maintain his dignity, Alaric renounced his ties to House Kreiburg, and reformed the Ivory Company. Over the course of the next handful of months, Alaric’s Ivory Company grew in numbers and proficiency to the point of an elite and distinguished Mercenary Company. The Ivory Company was well sought after by the Nobility, at one point even being exclusively contracted for security at the Golden Willow. With the success of the Ivory Company, Alaric found his wealth steadily growing and, longing for a locale such as the old Wunderbar to entertain guests, opened the Steak Estate. The upscale steakhouse restaurant quickly became a sensation among the Nobility and Common class alike, drawing frequent crowds and even helping to feed the victims of the Twin Fires. However, all was not well; a trend arose of Aberrant and criminal elements striking the surface, and commonly the Steak Estate, with violent attacks and vandalisms. In the absence of an organized and active Violet Order, Alaric rallied his men and sent them into the sewers. Successfully taking the fight back to the doorstep of the cretins which lurked below, the Ivory Company dealt a swift and heavy blow. A very clear message was sent to the sewers: We are stronger than you, and will not tolerate your insolence.

In recognition of Alaric’s prominence and success as a Mercenary Commander, House Keen was lifted to Nobility, titling Alaric Keen as the Duke of Gottlieberberg.

House Keen, in the intent of maintaining purity of blood lines, is strictly opposed to adoption of any individuals into the family, aside from those ennobled from blood. Family members are forbidden from marrying outside of Nobility, and are only permitted to be married when arranged by family heads.
