Family History​

The House d'Monial as it is today is a far stretch from its relatively indeterminate origins. The first formal mentions of the d'Monial family date back very early following the Cataclysm and collapse of Elven control over Ithania. The matriarch of the family at the time was Lorette d'Monial. The details of her life remain mostly mystery though it is generally understood that she marked a significant change in pace for the wealth and prosperity of the family. With ingenuity and favours, the nature of which remains unknown, Lorette acquired a rich piece of land for the family ripe for the growth of grapes. By the end of her life Lorette had managed to pull the family from poverty with the construction of a vast vineyard tapping into the market with a fine red wine, bringing them into a comfortable middle-class life and marking the beginning of the trade they practice to this day.

Come the early 100s the land the d'Monial family had acquired had grown into something of a significant size. With this the family too had grown, expanding out across Ithania and the world itself. The various matriarchs following Lorette had adopted a kind of laissez-faire policy for the management of the family, permitting their kin to go off to wherever they desired to so long as the primary bloodline remained loyal to their intentions. It wasn't until the year 150 AC and the coming of the Regalian Empire that the longstanding matriarchy was broken. Caused mostly from weak leadership and contentment, the husband of Ines d'Monial (the Matriarch at the time) overthrew his wife and wrenched control over the house, guiding them through the passive invasion and ensuring their standing did not falter. This move was generally viewed as extremely unorthodox and unbecoming of the house given Ithania's cultural views of men, despite this, his usurpation was not undone and power passed to his firstborn son, thus solidifying the Patriarchy.

Until the year 305 AC the d'Monial house remained indifferent to making significant moves outside of their comfortable life in Ithania. While there wasn't an official Patriarch for the house, given its sprawling existence around the world, Alan d'Monial claimed the post with his move to the Crown Isle, seeking to entrench his family's place in the empire by rising to Nobility over a county in Loriee. Although his rise was short lived it was not soon forgotten by his kin, and a year following his leaving the isle for reasons unknown Vernon d'Monial left his home on their family's traditional lands to make moves for the prestige his cousin had prior achieved.

Maison d'Monial
Traditionally the seat of the family Patriarch in Ithania, this estate has long been the home of the d'Monial family. The home today is far larger than its humble beginnings, various generations adding wings and amenities as they became necessary or for the sake of luxury alone. Presently this building houses Vernon's father, mother, sister, aunt, uncle and their children.​

d'Monial Winery
The trade of the d'Monial family since its inception, their craft has been refined over nearly countless generations into the mastery that it is today. Serving solely red wines, typically of a fruity nature, d'Monial sells their product across Ithania though primarily in the region where their winery is located. For a time the winery spread to the Crown Isle, though this was shut down after the family left the isle. The brand's sole moment of fame on the Archipelago was its presence at the Ravenstad table during a dinner in 305 AC.​

Physical Traits​

Males:
Male d'Monials tend to sport lean or average frames, naturally shying away from muscle mass or broad shoulders. Hair colour is blond or dirty blond and eye colour is a darker shade of blue. While attraction is highly subjective, it is reasonable to say that most d'Monial men inherit naturally appealing physical traits, though by no means are they perfect. Height tends to cap just shy of six foot, while the shortest known d'Monial man stood at an imposing five foot four. In one's latter years d'Monial males tend to develop a natural hunch and severe arthritis.

Females:
Female d'Monials, like the men, are known for their lean and thin frames, to describe a d'Monial woman as curvaceous would be ludicrous. Hair colour is blond or dirty blond and eye colour is a darker shade of blue. On the matter of attraction, d'Monial women inherit many of the same physical traits as the men, though usually with a more pronounced jawline. Height tends to cap around five foot eight, with the lower end being around five foot three or four. In their later years, the d'Monial women suffer many of the same crippling effects as the men, developing a hunchback and severe arthritis.
