House Delmotte Wiki Page Founder: Madaleine Jeanne Huinousse Looxois Delmotte Patriarch: Marceau Francois Delmotte Imperial Loyalty: Loyal to Imperial Authority - The Family does the best they can to both internally and externally obey the Emperor and praise his name, but may occasionally drift in disagreement when something is decidedly detrimental for them. Family Holding: Basta; a religious heartland of the Regalian Empire, covered in temples to the Divine Beings and a site for multiple colleges, academies, and training camps for various Unionism-focused organizations. The region’s territory is rocky and heavily hilled, resulting in divided but largely cooperative cities whose status as bastions of faith has long meant they are independently minded. Family Culture: Imperial; Imperial Culture is an artificial culture created by Regalia’s intellectuals and cultured to combat what they described as the fanatically dogmatic, and regressively narrow-minded attitudes of the other Cultures of Ailorkind. Historia House Delmotte is said to have been founded in the later years of the 1st Century AC, however, its earliest mentions in official documents in Ithanian censuses are from the year 109 AC. Their humble origins are rooted in the management of low bureaucratic estates in Joyau-vert du Nord, where they remained relatively insignificant until the onset of the Ithanian Gem Boom following Chancellor Vlaas Kade’s conquest of the Ithanian heartlands. The Gem Boom served as a stepping stone and opportunity for the early Delmottes, as it had with so many other Ithanian families who chose to migrate to the Archipelago and settle Pays Sud. The matriarch, Madaleine Delmotte, was the first to establish her name as a relevant polity, receiving title over the lands of la Cresse. This sudden increase in influence led to the majority of her sisters and their children following from Ithania to enjoy newfound relevance and luxury in the local sphere as the region exploded in terms of wealth and prosperity. Disunity became a common theme with the Delmotte household, and scheming became so commonplace over the following decades that, by the year 131 AC, the house had cycled through four baronesses, the majority of whom were deposed by their successors via public humiliations and fabricated assertions of mental instability and ineptitude to rule. This led to a reputation amongst the Delmottes that such instabilities ran through the bloodline, and called into question the legitimacy of the family as a whole, though inevitably nothing came of it. Eventually, Delmotte influence spread locally to the point where they had eclipsed and absorbed the neighboring baronial lands of Gramonde, though skewed loyalties between the household retainers and an emerging feud over a favored lover between the sisters Anais and Frederique Delmotte resulted in a split between both the household and its lands. This divide would persist well into the Regalian Pessimism, until the latter barony, Gramonde, was absorbed by neighboring counts following the death of its ruler via unclear circumstances (generally assumed to be an assassination, though this has been thoroughly covered up by House Delmotte to save face). Following the death of Anais Delmotte, the family fell into the hands of Katriane Delmotte, who managed to rein in her many sisters and cousins who schemed against her for control of the house. La Cresse prospered under her stewardship economically and only soared following the Chrysant Wars. She was responsible for House Delmotte’s shift from sole reliance on the jewel trade, and instead brought in equestrian tradition to supplement their main source of income while also openly supporting an increasingly militaristic Regalia rebounding from a recession. Dying in the spring of 304, the family passed on to her eldest daughter, Emmeline. Not exactly the image of Ithanian virtue and principles, eschewing the pacifist tradition of her people as a knight of the Matrais Order, her ascension was met with some resistance and controversy by some cousin branches. Her tenure was otherwise largely uneventful, though, with the restoration of the Imperial House, the Delmotte’s focus has shifted from local administration to the capital where they have endeavored into the world of courtly politics. After a time as Countess, Emmeline fell into a deep depression and decided in her wisdom and her desire to preserve the prestige of her family, that abdicating the County to her eldest brother Louis Delmotte was a necessary act. Shortly after Louis’s ascension to patriarch and Count of La Cresse the theme of disunity reared its ugly head once more and again the family holdings were fractured. A sister to the recently ascended Count, Fleur Delmotte, who now fashions herself as Fleur Marais denounced House Delmotte and took with her the family’s ancestral seat of La Cresse, forcing Louis to relocate to the family’s holdings in Basta in order to ensure the survival of the noble house. The fracture was relatively short-lived and House Delmotte managed to reclaim the province of Irvelle, leading to the creation of what would come to be known as the Dukedom of Basta-Irvelle. Family Lineage Markus Delmotte is the Count of Bastadon, having inherited his status as patriarch from his father Louis Delmotte, the first patriarch of House Delmotte. Preceding him was his younger sister Emmeline and before her was their mother Katriane Delmotte, married to Jean Argent. Before Katriane, two sisters disputed the claim for the holder of the land; Katriane’s mother Anais, and her aunt Frederique. The only other baroness of note was Madaleine Delmotte, the supposed founder of the house. Under the rule of the sisters’ mother, Veronique, the influence of the house spread and absorbed the neighboring baronial holdings of Gramonde. Skewed loyalties and the initial feud between Anais and Frederique caused a split, however, in both the household and the lands. This divide would persist well into the Regalian Pessimism, until the latter barony, Gramonde, was absorbed by neighboring counts.
