Archived Horizontal Creative Gates

Simple concept but probably a right bleeding cow to code.

We're all used to Portals/Creative Gates in the vertical aspect right? I'd love to see the ability to have them in the horizontal - like a pool of glowing awesomeness.

This would be cool but keep In mind that portal blocks face upwards. Instead of using portals when making a horizontal gate end portal blocks could be used.

I imagine one would either need to use end portal blocks, messed up nether portal blocks, or it would require a client side mod. I can't see the first two requiring a huge amount of work and as such I think it would be worth it. It's simply how they'd go about coding it.
