Hey Guys and Girls,

I'm writing this post to get some views and Opinion and maybe even some ideas on things that can be done to solve this issue.

So when I first joined Massivecraft the 1st thing I did was to join the teamspeak It was great the staff were always active talking and the community was "ALIVE" and new people/players felt welcome.
But now days it Seems since "Temporary Channels" Have been put in place the Teamspeak no longer feels like a community but yet a hub for different groups of people to Join the create there own private groups were unless you are already known it is hard to get inside of.

Yes teamspeak has got a lot more active recently (which is great) but the community have to "Die" for the popularity to grow.

Please leave your views and comments Below.
Thanks,
Alfie Webber.

Well, I see your concern and over the times I have also seen this issue; however, what you need to note in many situations is that people wish to speak to their friends. We used to have a subchannel called Faction Channels. They would be semi permanent and would end up being deleted every time Teamspeak restarted/crashed ect. But this began to clutter the TS with inactive and unused channels, forcing it to be more work for the staff. The "Temporary Channels" Subchannel is essentially a 'cleaner' version of the faction ones.

I've noticed the decrease of activity in the "General" channel, but that isn't always bad. I, upon joining Teamspeak, automatically search for my friends, then join them. Time is wierded out in Teamspeak as you can be in "General" then end up in "World Design" about 4 minutes later. It's difficult to force people to go to "General" unless we remove "Discussion Rooms" and "Temporary Channels" entirely. This would make the Teamspeak less appealing to people.

Privacy is also a key issue. If someone wants a private conversation with someone, they make a Temporary Channel, otherwise they'd need to use the "Discussion Rooms" which get filled up very fast.

Perhaps trying to go to "General" and ask people to join you? I find that players go where staff members are, perhaps try and coax a staff member in there? ;)

Let me get this right, you don't want different channels? You want a fat global chat only? :S

And we try to hide a bit in a corner (smoking)

This is not how I wanted to come across I had a bit of thinking time and came up with an Idea where maybe, To have the ability to create Temporary channels you have to apply for it on the forums this stops new people coming in and just creating a channel and also forces people to be a bit more active with the community, My fear is If the teamspeak stays the way it is at present time the community feel will slowly fade. I feel this Idea brings the best of both worlds to the table. What do you think?

Sounds like a lot of work. I see it as the community is evolving, not fading. It's a difference from being 40 player server to a server with thousands of players...

I think the situation is alot less gloomy and alot more simpler then you state.

  1. The number of people on the Teamspeak has exploded since you were last "active" on the teamspeak
  2. People have come to the conclusion that they do not wish to communicate with certain people
  3. Thus it is easier to sit in temp channels where people group up.
  4. It's a fact that the amount of people in the temporary channels is in fact much larger then the amount of people that used to be in the discussion rooms.
  5. An example is the regular activity in Auxillian/Palimuza/Argonia channels.
  6. Community is not dying, it multiplied into different communities, and is thus catering to a larger audience by having more diverse communities.

All is good.

The only negative change, which most people probably don't think is negative, is that the passwords used to only be changed if it got out too much, now teamspeak passwords change almost every day.

Lul. Sometimes... I made unpassworded channels and then have to go afk for work or to run unexpected errands.

Then I come back and there are like 30 people in my channel. Like... WHERE DID YOU ALL COME FROM?!

I've only been on teamspeak twice, when I first joined the server. One of them was with taxconsumption, I was an officer in his faction at the time, the other with was a conversation between CRACK and gwen (both of whom I barely knew aside from the fact that they were both powerful and well known), and I was afraid to speak O.0
Maybe I should start using teamspeak again, and just chill in General chatting up random strangers. But not now, because I have a terrible cough and will sound like an 80 year old man...

Sit in conversations with Watchdogeditor Gwen and... Jadex is there too.

I used to go on our ts server everytime I logged in. I was new and wanted to meet people, which I did, but then everyone stpped goin in the discussion rooms and general and I was by myself more than 80% of the time, so now im on skype with my faction most of the time. If more people start using the public channels again, then I will be back on. Till then, I dont want to be lonely :(

I don't speak often, because I don't have much to say.

The RP is on the screen for me. :3
