His nose has a few crooks in it due to the amount of times it’s been broken when he was younger, and overall, age wise, he still appears as though he was in his late twenties to early thirties. His left eye socket is completely vacant and lacking eyelids. The left side of his face is ruined, lacking almost all of it’s skin and showing off the rusty brown and dried muscles underneath. His teeth are somewhat visible through his cheek, and his jaw bone is the same. He has slightly pointed ears, which caused many to suspect he had nelfin blood in him. His skin is ungodly pale with a greenish yellow hue to it, which he blames on the stress and mutations his body has undergone. Grinch is built like an ox, with limbs like tree trunks and a chest like a barrel. Coupled with his incredible height, it was easy to understand why he was often rumored to be a genuine giant. His body is absolutely covered in scars, and the fingers on his right hand, save for his thumb, are discolored and don’t match the ones on his right hand, and were very clearly stitched on at some point. He can move them, albeit a bit stiffly. His left arm is missing from the elbow down, having replaced it with a black iron prosthetic, purely for martial purposes. He wears a shabby suit of iron armor, darkened by soot. Nothing is off limits for him, and is willing to do anything for whoever he’s currently loyal to. He was raised solely to fight, and that’s how he chooses to live. Grinch was raised to suppress his emotions from the very beginning, leading him to become the cold and methodical soldier type his superiors wanted him to be. This has led him to be very emotionally undeveloped, and when he was younger it allowed strong emotional outbursts. When he was younger, he could’ve been viewed as the ideal crusader, violent and ruthless and willing to do quite literally anything for the spirit. Though after his injury and leaving the order, he gradually forgot about it altogether, resigning himself solely to being a mercenary. Nowadays he has trouble simply telling religions apart. ━━━━━━━━━┛ ✠ ┗━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━┓ ✠ ┏━━━━━━━━━ Life Story ࿇ ══━━━✥◈✥━━━══ ࿇ Vlodislav was born on June 16th, 280 AC, the middle child between two brothers, all of which had a different mother. His father was a knight of the Parthas Order, who was mostly known for the unfortunate fact that his wives always die during childbirth. Vlod’s birth was a bit different, though, as he was created from his fathers fornication with one of his slaves. He was always looking for more sons, so despite feeling ashamed he had a child with a kathar, he decided to keep it and did his best to hide his elven heritage. Thanks to his father’s knighthood, they lived a relatively wealthy life, though it was hardly easy. Their father was often too occupied by the wars and other jobs to care for his children, which left them pretty neglected. On top of the neglect, Vlodislav was bullied by his older brother, and soon his younger brother, for his height, something neither of the other two boys possessed. The bullying often grew violent, and at the time Vlodislav felt helpless, so he simply accepted what was dealt to him. He took to the streets as soon as he could to get away from the bullying, using his “high” status to impress the other lowly children and get them to follow him like minions. He realized he could use his status to great effect, bullying his friends like his brothers did to him. It wasn’t all bad, though, because sometimes they’d go out and beat and rob peasants instead! The young boy was a terror, and it forced his father to pay more attention to him. His father introduced the young boys Parthas order once they were old enough, grooming them to become mage hunters like he was, something Vlodislav was very excited about. By the time he was fourteen, he was already being mistaken for a fully grown adult, and began accompanying his father to battles and raids for more experience in combat, as well as officially becoming a knight of the Azure Order. He was married to the daughter of another knight when he was fifteen, which was the same year when his younger and evidently weaker brother had been killed during one of the battles. He felt no love loss there, though, as he was praised as a soldier, mage hunter, crusader, and had a wife now. He was eighteen when he had his son and was given his own company of mercenaries by his father. They wore horrid black iron armor meant to appear like various draconic beasts like their leader, and were known for how ruthless and borderline evil their exploits were. It was mostly made up of gladiators, slaves, and punished criminals afterall. It reached the point where not even the orders they belonged to were proud to claim them. Because of this, despite his skill and dedication to the cause, Vlodislav was seen as a tyrant and hated by mostly everybody, which is when he earned his nickname ‘Grinchi’, later becoming Grinch. When he was twenty one, officially graduating from squire, his company was hired to aid in a battle between some nobles. This wasn’t unusual in itself as the company had been doing this for years, though what happened during it was. More than half the company was wiped out, and Grinch had his chest torn open, half his face ripped off and his eye knocked out by a mace, and his left arm shattered. He was presumed dead, though fortunately (or unfortunately) he was not. Him and a few others that survived were nursed back to health and eventually ransomed by the enemy. Grinch returned home missing an arm, an eye, half his face, and almost all of his men. When he got back, he came home to find his wife having an affair with his only remaining brother, the older one. Overcome with rage, Grinch sprung into action and beat his brother, and quite brutally too, despite his own injuries. It wasn’t enough to kill him, but it was more than enough to make him spend the rest of his now shortened life wishing it was. His wife got a similar treatment, though it wasn’t nearly as horrible. Grinch was removed from active combat, due to his missing limb, and was expected to spend the rest of his life as a guard and mentoring the Pages. Filled with perpetual anger and a strong newfound suspicion that his son wasn’t actually his, his training became a lot harsher and a lot more hateful. It led to his son, barely four at the time, being overworked to death. This, coupled with the emotional torment he’d put his wife throughout the year after that incident, led to her taking her own life. His father tried to encourage him to remarry, though he refused. His faith also began to waiver, consumed by all the negative emotions surrounding him, making both his life and the lives of the people around him hell. He ended up getting upset with a mage he was guarding and strangled her to death, which was the final nail in the coffin. The Parthas knights finally excommunicated him from their order and the church, and he had all of his ranks and power stripped of him. By this time, it was also becoming clear that the injuries he sustained were taking a heavy toll on his mental state and ability to recall memories. This became very clear to him when the anger he felt over this decision passed and he realized he was never truly accepted by them in the first place. When he began to think back on his life, he found it difficult to remember the faces and names of the people in it aside from his father, who was the only one not dead at this point. Grinch felt like he was dying, or perhaps like he was already dead. He decided to stick to what he was taught, however. Despite the fear he felt, he convinced himself his memories and who he was wasn’t important and that his career as a soldier and mercenary wasn’t over. He looked into mutations, giving himself horns so he didn’t have to wear an arming cap, making his blood thick and coagulated to try and lessen the chances of him bleeding out, and having the nails on his remaining hand removed entirely so his gauntlets would fit better. Nowadays, he resides in the sewers, taking whatever job is given to him. He’s more or less forgotten a large chunk of his past, unable to recall anything more than broad overviews of what happened, leaving a bitter shell of who he once was. He hardly even remembers his own name other than Grinch, and has trouble telling people apart. Thankfully, though, his violent tendencies have mellowed out and is no longer as easily provoked as he once was. His reason for being a mercenary is now purely instinctual, as he has no real interest in the money offered. It’s simply all he knows to do.
