Places to look for reference: Pinterest
  • Pinterest is your best friend! What helps me the most is taking advantage of the Pinterest algorithm within the 'more ideas' section of your Pinterest board. Pin a few things you think are really cool and specific to the vibe you're going for and peruse that section.
  • Other things to look up on Pinterest:
    • Time period accurate movie and TV costume design
  • For detail/pattern/motif reference, try searching these things!
    • Ornamental design
    • Rosemaling
    • Intricate floral designs
    • Victorian wallpaper
    • Medieval/renaissance/victorian illustration
    • French embroidery design
    • Art deco ornamental design

Places to look for reference: Websites
  • https://fashionsfromhistory.tumblr.com/:
    • This is a great blog dedicated to historic fashion!
  • https://www.pinterest.com/hukhuggin/clothes/:
    • Here is my Pinterest board! I use and update this board almost on the daily and get all of my inspo from it.
  • https://www.etsy.com/?ref=lgo:
    • I've also tried looking up things along the lines of 'larping costume' and 'renaissance faire costume' on Etsy before and there's some cool things sometimes. A lot of it is really goofy and inaccurate, but still is a good place to look for inspiration.
  • www.metmuseum.org/art/the-collection:
    • The Met website has a giant database of historical works of art and items of clothing and jewelry! For example, if I search clothing, it gives you a bunch of different criteria to help you narrow down your search. I really suggest looking for culturally significant/accurate pieces of clothing that match your character.
