Economic news of Regalia for October the First
If the news seems excessively bad, it’s because the world basically hit a global recession after the Bone Horror Invasion, it won’t always be this bad. Also since only one guild is currently registered, this entire post purely appeals to them. Others players CAN however make use of the information here to roleplay about it, or even to

“The Kades are at it again with their overbearing presence!” ~ Random Commoner

In preparation for all out war to save the fringe colonies and foreign nations from the Bone Horrors, the Kade Produce Consortium already prepared for a massive increase in agricultural demand. The local barons in Anglia tripled their cut and burn practice to produce more farmable land, and immediately stocked vast quantities of shippable grain to lands which were presumed to be devoid of an agricultural countryside after a global catastrophe of this proportion. To make up for the lost revenue from agriculture while the Consortium stored their goods however, they decided to dump the price of lumber by over saturating the market with vast quantities of newly cut wood. In the period of 3 weeks, the raw lumber price plummeted twice, and then another thirdfold on the fourth week, resulting in an average drop of log pricing from 400 regals to 78 per oak log.

The immediate consequences of this drastic change were most felt by the Wodenstaff family, a member of the Open Ocean Merchant Guild. Their already weakened production base after the loss of the Fendarfell supplies was hit hard by the price plummet, driving their profits into red and their stockpiles viritually useless. The first great financial crisis was at hand for the Open Ocean Guild, and their first true test before the fires of the ever changing economy. The Wodenstaff trade business obviously appealed to the Merchant Guild for relief.

(as part of a one time kickstart assistance) Various advisors flocked to the Merchant guild to give them some ideas on how to handle the situation. One producer suggested selling the wood anyway at the low price that it had, hoping the situation would get better. He argued not selling the wood would result in even greater losses for the Wodenstaff family. Another suggested trying to negociate with the Kade Produce Consortium to agree raising the price for mutual benefit. Another argued for direct sabotage, a little cinder could burn a massive stockpile of wood and if the Kade storages are empty, they can’t push the price down, the price will have to bounce back up. Another argued for increasing the demand for wood by commissioning a large fleet or housing project, but others did argue that this would simply move the financial loss from a greater part on the Wodenstaff, to a small loss for all members of the guild. Another argued to stockpile the wood and stop selling. They predicted the price would soar as soon as the Regalian army went out to reconquer lands, so whatever losses were incurred now would be recuperated later when the global market would stabilize. None of the advisors could eventually agree on anything, so it was up to the Guild to choose the best option, or even make one of their own?

Meanwhile over in Kavosikion, the local workers of the Tzavaras businesses made a special appeal to the family. Many of the able bodied men who normally worked in the Tzavaras businesses expressed they wished to sign up to the Kade banner that would go and liberate the Etosil islands from the Bone Horrors, as they worried for the well-being of their people back home in their native lands. Unfortunately, sending men off to war is often terrible for production, men leaving their businesses in Kavosikion would almost certainly result in financial losses for the Tzavaras Family, but maybe there was something to be gained in these men going to war for the family through other means? The Businesses did not exactly know how to deal with this request. It was entirely up to the Tzavaras family whether to accept or reject the request of the workers, with all consequences accompanied, so the head master of the major cosmetic trade ring sent a request to the Open Ocean Guild with a request to make a decision on whether to let the men go to war, or stay at home.

Due to the global events, the banking sector was in an utter state of panic. The military governance issued bonds for banks which feared certain loss of financial assets, while it placed a minor guarantee on foreign loans up to 40,000 Regals as long as the bank could prove it had foreign assets at the time of the Bone Horror invasion. This was only a minor band-aid to this problem however: Since much of the world was cut off, many foreign lenders, investors and even asset storages were just presumed lost. Some banking businesses lost nearly three quarters of their assets overnight which cut off the interest rates of their existing clients. With the anger of the aristocracy breathing down on their necks, the banks of the various Open Ocean Merchant Guild Families (and there are many, too many even to mention), appealed to the Guild for a solution. It was going to be a difficult matter to decide whether to provide financial insurances to calm down the market (while incurring a financial loss for all Guild members) or to ignore the appeals and let weak banks die, with potential catastrophic events for a few of the guild members. Perhaps there was yet another solution though? The Guild would have to find out!

You mentioned in the Guild Wars opening thread that families can earn Imperial prestige. Is this like the Charters where only the leader gains such or any participating family?
