Hello!

Before I begin, some of you may be unaware that there are Giants in Minecraft. Due to some technical wumbo-jumbo, they do not spawn usually. However, they are possible to spawn on a server, if configured.

Now, I hear rumor there is a new gigantic, icy mountain world coming out relatively soon. When it is, I'd think it the perfect place to have these large fellows spawning. Imagine, you walk around a mountain and you see a gigantic monstrosity in the middle of a field. Even a Prot IV clad warrior would be hard pressed to defeat one alone.

I will admit I don't know exactly what's needed to get them to spawn, but if it is possible, I see this as a neat little feature. It would of course, have to be after sharding is implemented. Still, I trust Cay would be able to create this, would be yet another attraction for Massivecraft. A new monster to fear in game, a new challenge to be overcome.

So yes, I look forward to seeing if this is a possible feature, or a probable one.

Their stats are a bit jumbled, it sounds like a good idea but they are hilariously easy to defeat with even an unenchanted bow due to the fact that they run as fast as regular zombies, even slower.

Perhaps configure them, making them extremely powerful but very rare?? I think it's possible to configure a mob's stats.

The file to servers do let you configure worlds and mobs. It is depending of how much time this one thing would take. The delay of other worlds for this small project wouldn't be needed.

Far from the truth. Yes, it can happen. No, it won't really cause any delay due to the simplicity of it. Welcome to Bukkit API.

Technically, they are like normal zombies, right, but with just a large entity size/health. Perhaps they are able to spawn wearing armour. It would be neat if possible.

Yes but it only zombies can wear armor not super size ones XD

Imagine like some giant zombie running around with some giant glowing boots the size of regalia xD

Maybe add a huge beanstalk at the mountain and at the top there is one big zombie like a boss? something like a rp quest?

We could make it so that the giant is rare, but he drops more valuable items?

This sounds pretty intriguing, if it would be possible to increase the giants health, damage output, and speed to make it a truly fearsome adversary, this would be great! It would have to be pretty powerful, so when one is spotted, it's news. A group of adventurers could travel on a quest to slay the beast, and newspapers could come out about the giant causing a threat to Regalia... etc.

Would it be possible to have it use an alternate skin? Or would we need to just use a texture pack? Or even better, if this does get in, could we have an official texture in the Massive Texture pack?

I've heard big snowy mountain world, undersea world, and sandy Faradeen. We have a lot of lands coming, huh?

If you want Giants to spawn you must either use mods or tweak the code since they need light level less than 8 and more than 11 to spawn which cant happen. Anyways it is a nice idea but do not make them hostile if you are going to make them so powerful

Geez, they better be hostile, or it'll turn into a giant McMMO and loot grindfest.

I would think that Giants would not be hostile against Yeti unless they strike one or get within 1 block of them but for anyone else they would charge if you get within 50 blocks and they spotted you.

I would think that giants would spawn more frequently have little worth in loot with the exception of a bit of leather they drop from their clothing and some coin.

I also agree with making them faster stronger and have more health.

The Northern Dwarfs of Ulldin will be making a Hunting camp in the icy plains and will be hunting Yeti and the Giants would be a great adversary for the dwarfs to fight while hunting Yeti.

I think they should be neutral unless you attack .. otherwise it could be very annoying. But I guess thats the point of hostile mobs <xD

SOOOooooo Their are Friendly Giant Beings in the Icy mountains where The Yeti live...

Maybe we should have them hand you some leather coats to keep you warm while you build city's and homes in their territory.

To bring this conversation to relevance, the Bukkit mod Rainbow pointed out seems perfect. Control over stats, able to make them a challenge, control where and how they spawn etc.

So, any chance of seeing this mod installed for the upcoming worlds?

Would love to slay a giant. I vote for Yes.

Possible i dont know.

Codding is limited by your imagination <- no such thing as not possible.

An easy fix? <- considering giants are already a minecraft mob and their are already mods that help you mess with their stats with a GUI I would say this is extremely easy to implement.
I doubt they would be hard on the server as well, they do damage on contact and they don't fire explosive things that leave fire ore make blocks break. I would say that for FPS the giant would be just as bad as a skeleton or two.
