Many months had passed since Ronaen retreated to Erloven Castle. Everyday he sat around wondering to himself, "Where did I go wrong?"

The one person Ronaen thought he could trust the most in this world, his adored wife, Jareth, had left him. His companions that facilitated his countries rise to power had abandoned him. The names flew around his head like annoying gnats in search of fruit.

"Sir, I'm afraid enemy forces to the East have taken Vertico..."

Soldiers would often enter Ronaen's office, finding him staring blankly at the map of his shrinking borders, and would have to break the news of another lost position.

"Hmmm..." Ronaen would respond, and the wait continued.

It wouldn't be till the day that the enemy was at his doorstep would Ronaen finally awake, but by then, it was too late.

Rumbling shook the castle.

"Sir!" The commander hollered, "Our forces our dwindling, they have made it past the front gate, if we don't evacuate the city, hundreds more will die- Maybe we should surrender!"

Ronaen was rushing down the hall when he ordered the commander, "They have sealed their fate, I want that gate locked down and secured. None is entering or exiting this castle, and we sure as hell are not surrendering! Torren, comon!"

Ronaen and his son fled to the assembly chamber and the commander huffed, signaling his men to seal the gate.

Screaming and panic filled the streets of Lamplight as volleys of arrows and other debris littered the city.

"Get to the ship! Quickly!" Theon ordered as he helped push citizens in the direction of the docks. He looked over to Silvanus, "I'm going to find my father, I will not leave without him. If I don't return soon, go on without me."

Silvanus nodded, and Theon sprinted deeper into the city.

He turned the corner of a building, only to see civvy's being thrown out of their homes by the foreigners, and turned onto another road.

A group of Insani soldiers approached him, one of them being Commander Maddox.

"Theon! By the gods I have found you!" the commander placed his hands on Theon's shoulders.

"Commander! We need to go save my father!" Theon tried to rush past.

"No no no, Theon, your father is in no need of saving... He personally asked me to find you and make sure you flee to safety."

"But Commander, our forces have been overwhelmed, Lamplight is lost, we have to get him and leave now!"

"Young boy, this is an order from your father! The castle walls can hold for months! Your father will be fine, now you have to leave! That's an order!"

Day soon turned night and Ronaen prepared his defenses in the castle.

The chamber doors cracked open, "Lord Athius, the commander thought you might want to see this... They're preparing an assault on the castle!"

Ronaen and his son went with the soldier to the balcony where a few of his remaining men looked out into the night and watched the burning city.

"What are we supposed to be looking at?" Ronaen asked, looking over the railing. "I don't see anythin-" Torren added, before being interrupted by a sharp pain.

One of the soldiers shoved his sword deep into the princes back, before tossing him over the edge.

"What the- no!" Ronaen responded as he spun around in a lost for words.

Suddenly a blade entered his chest, "It's for the best that we surrender."

"For all of us."

Ronaen was pushed from the balcony, suffering the same fate has his son, lying next to him on the pavement below.

"We've killed Ronaen Athius, leader of your enemy! Grant us freedom, and you can have this lousy castle..." The commander proclaimed.

Theon sat at the front of the ship, wondering where the crew of survivors would head to next, with nowhere left to go, they decide to head into the new frontier.

Essalonia.

Through the screaming and crying crowd aboard the ship, a shaken blonde pressed herself against the railing, focusing on keeping herself from being sick. Ships were never her favorite, and, after a long moment, she managed to push herself straight again rather than hunched over the rail. She weaved her way with ease through the crowds towards the back of the deck to take a spot besides a rather familiar prince. Antonia Athius looked to her cousin, Theon, with a frown.

"It'll be okay, petit cousin," the woman stated, lifting a hand to press it to his shoulder, staring towards their gradually smaller, burning city. "We will survive as we always do."

Though, in the back of her mind, she couldn't help thinking this had all been the fault of a weak king.

Days Earlier...
Silvanus awoke on the deck of a burning ship "Get yer arse up we aren't finished yet!" Said the soldier shaking Silvanus "Go find the captain he'll know what ta' do!" Looking around, he could see Vertico and the fleet that had been defending it in the distance, filled with fire and smoke, this would be the last time he'd see his home. Filled with confusion he just stood there as the ship was burning until a familiar voice spoke to him "Silas! 'ey bud!" His father, Claus said to him "Ya' seem panicked!" he patted his shoulder "look, I need ya' ta' give a message to Lamplight, we need reinforcements but we'll win this battle, Vertico will be fine. Understood?" Silvanus nodded and before he could speak Claus hugged him, whispering something in his ear, and put a note in his pocket. Claus directed him to a row boat with another soldier but before he could get in a cannonball ripped through the deck, sending Silvanus into the water.

Hours later...

Awoken on a beach, Silvanus looked around, patting his pockets he found the note, rather smudged he could still make some of it out.
"Vertico lost, fleet destroyed, do not send reinforcements, Goodbye Son."
Looking around, Silas was able to find a village where he could get directions and a horse, heading to Lamplight to deliver the news.
