I argued on the other thread that eventually people will get tired of elytra and it will be obsolete. I also noted before that the idea of having this brand new technology massively available doesn't fit well on a psychological standpoint, as people are not always keen on changes.
Take this example: You're just walking around about to go to the Golden Willow for a drink after a hard days work. Suddenly you look up and see the barmaid flying by on a glider. You think nothing of it, but then you see the milkman flying overhead.
See where this will start to go? Yeah, the Da Vinci glider is plausible, but just like in the Renaissance, the technology was too advanced for the time (which is why he burned a lot of his notebooks. World wasn't ready.) Now given Aloria is a fantasy world, we are able to ignore real life counterparts, which explains how we can have items like airships and sextants that in the real world either never existed of wouldn't be invented hundreds of ears later.
But eventually people can't suspend disbelief anymore. First we have gliders, then guns, then eventually we get to send a telegram. I'm all for a race with elytra. But just the idea of seeing everyone using a brand new form of technology doesn't make much sense. Most people wouldn't have any idea how to use a glider correctly, which would lead to a lot of deaths; and no player-ex-machina can change that.
I love everyone thinking up ways to utilize the new item. But I strongly feel that a primitive glider isn't the way to go, as in the short run it will allow a lot of god RP to happen, and in the long run the hype will die out.
