Character Information
Side Profile (art by me)
Ebi was re-birthed somewhere in the middle of No Man's Land after his previous life ended abruptly. As he cannot remember his previous life, he has no clue what happened. He survived in the harsh jungle for a decade after, his only possessions the natural things he scavenged and his previous lifes' collection of books.
When he was about 11, he left No Man's Land in search of civilization, as the books must have come from somewhere, right? He found a fringe town of transients and was taken in by a kindly Lanlath, Arriet. She gave him a name and her family name (Platte), and she taught him the basics: reading, writing, etc, and gave him some sense of familial love until her untimely death due to a tropical disease that swept the town. Shortly after her death, Ebi left the town: he was 15.
At this point in his life, he had begun to develop a more monstrous appearance than the typical Yanar, and as such was regarded with suspicion and fear by most. He was often forced to vacate the towns and villages he passed through quickly, the whole pitchfork-and-torches debacle. Though being forced into a nomadic scavenging lifestlye, Ebi continued to collect knowledge wherever he could, as well as help those in need that he happened across.
At 32 Ebi was attacked by local militia of a town he'd stopped in to briefly peruse the market. There was a misunderstanding with a lost child he was attempting to help, and he was accused of trying to kidnap/harm them. Despite pleading his case vehemently, the militia didn't listen, and accosted him in the middle of the town. He fled, brutally injured, and even more monstrous-looking.
For a time after, Ebi was a recluse living in the sea-side caves of the Regalian Archipelago. He learned to alter his mannerisms enough to appear harmless, or of less-than-human intelligence, and employed his knowledge of Sign, as his voice was unsettling to most, and adopted a persona of naivety. After making these alterations that he deemed necessary, he ended his hermitage and arrived at Regalia when he was 46, and has lived in the city for the past 4 years.
Despite technically having a fake persona of dumbness, Ebi is genuinely kind and generous. He enjoys helping people, and only feels fulfilled when he can put a smile on someone's face. Because of his past experiences, he feels the falsities are a necessity to interact with the public and not be chased out of Regalia.
TLDR:
Dokaebi spent most of his life traversing the Alorian wilds. After briefly dropping off the map, he relocated to Regalia, where he spends his time in city observing and interacting with the citizens.
