Like most New-Regalian children born in the upper classes, Otto was raised in military dogma, and as the second son of the family was drilled from a young age to go into some form of military service, while his older brother, Karl von Këhrer, was trained in tactics and theory to follow in his father’s footsteps. During his childhood his military-inclined father ensured he was trained in swordplay and archery, as well as having both his sons attend hunts, fur trappings and falconry as pass times, all of which Otto took a liking to. It was also during this time he ingrained in them anti-liberal, conservative values, and devotion to the Unionist faith. At twelve, Otto was deemed ready to begin formal training in advanced swordplay and archery, in which the latter he much preferred and would become more adverse in. His tutor was an Anglian soldier named Casper de Saeger, and also gave him additional knowledge in command and tactics, through the studying of military treatises and the strategies used in various campaign successes. His father was very happy with the training Otto received, and at sixteen, the young New-Regalian would enlist into military service. During his rigorous time in military training, Otto’s fervent support of the Empire and faith were bolstered, and the ingrained conservatism in him began to manifest in his moral compass. In June 302 A.C, Otto experienced his first large-scale conflict in the Elven War, between the Regalian Empire and the Northern Elven Kingdoms. He took part in various skirmishes and most notably the Muds of Taure Tinechor, the defeat of the first Battle of H’rellen and the Red Massacre of Madar Tellarna. He was also present in the concluding battle of Lenna Bas, before the war came to an end, and the soldier now having garnered valuable first-hand battlefield experience. Otto would also go on to participate in both the First and Second Songaskian Wars of 303 and 305 A.C, before relieving himself of duty from the military and instead begin working independently as a mercenary. At this stage of his life his father had passed away, and thus due to traditional New-Regalian male primogeniture customs, his brother had inherited everything, leaving nothing for Otto at all, causing him to need to carve his own future and wealth. He would take on mercenary contracts through the subsequent years, acquiring a fair amount of wealth in the process and decided he’d slowly make his way to the capital, taking on the odd contract on the way. However, now he seeks to find fellow mercenaries to work alongside, and support the Empire and faith in the only way he knows best, with a weapon in his hand.
