For those of you who don't know, Discord is an increasingly popular group text/voice chat service that seeks to combine the best of the various popular chat services (TeamSpeak, Mumble, Ventrilo, Skype, etc). It's not perfect, but it does a VERY good job at what it does and in my opinion it far exceeds TeamSpeak (Massive's current voice chat service) in sheer usability. Pretty much everyone I've introduced to the service has agreed that it's better than other similar programs, so I'm certain many here would feel the same.

Even if it's unofficial, I think it would be pretty cool for someone here to start up a Massivecraft Discord server. I don't play much on Massivecraft anymore, myself, but nonetheless I think having a Discord server for the community would be great.

Anyone interested in doing this/have any ideas?

I would say it would be better if Massive made an official one with a few different servers with different locations. It being official will have more people use it. Someone randomly hosting it probably won't have much success and would probably have few mods to run it. The problem with this is I believe Massive is low on staff for stuff at the moment so no one can monitor it. Is a good idea though. I too use discord quite often and in my opinion it is better than both Skype and TS.

I'd want an official one too, ideally, but I figured that because we've been using TS so long (and because of the staff shortage, like you said), that there would be almost no chance of an official one.

This is a good idea. Discord is the best thing for people to use+ you can use the app to talk to people when away from your PC.
I would happily moderate A chat// set one up, but I think massive needs an A official one as it will (as previously stated) attract more players. Though staff may be low in numbers, they can always put an app out for discord moderation, or double in game staff or lore staff as discord moderators.

Agreed, also, for many people who can't use Skype this would be a lifesaver. Until I got a private skype recently after a long wait and IRL trouble, there was no way I could sign up for most IC groups who required Skype for application. Switching to discord as an alternative would open the doors of multiple groups for many players who could not apply previously.
