My dream is to build a new sort of city. A hub of travel, leisure and trade built by player hands, and open to all. The city Dagoska is currently in progress, and it is my hope that it will be a city where the gates can be left open for travelers to come and go freely as they pass through the barren desert wastes. I hope to connect the city to the main port of the land by road, making access easy.

It is unfortunate, I find, that common factions are unable to remain open to the public for fear of griefers and raiders. The world is piled full of fortresses locked up tight from the outside world. Dagoska will be something new, an experiment of sorts, with the hope of breathing life and roleplay into a part of the world that is presently empty and dead. If the experiment is successful, the Aerie may try its hand at other public settlements.

I think I could rally some people to help build/ guard your city.

I appreciate it! I think we're good for builders, but I'll probably hire guards if the market district brings in enough.[DOUBLEPOST=1366562325,1366562279][/DOUBLEPOST]I may post some screenshots here of the progress if this idea generates enough interest.

that sounds like a great idea! (party)
I'm really glad to see support for the project. We'll have to get cracking on finishing it up.[DOUBLEPOST=1366570277,1366564048][/DOUBLEPOST] Screen Shot 2013-04-21 at 2.42.52 PM.png Screen Shot 2013-04-21 at 2.43.11 PM.png Screen Shot 2013-04-21 at 2.43.16 PM.png Screen Shot 2013-04-21 at 2.43.28 PM.png Screen Shot 2013-04-21 at 2.43.35 PM.png Screen Shot 2013-04-21 at 2.43.49 PM.png

For now, here's a few pictures to get an idea of the city being constructed. Bear in mind that this is still very much a work in progress, in many aspects. Shown here are the city gates, and the Sleeping Wither Inn, exterior and interior both, where guests to the city will be free to stay for a rest or a pint.

These screens were taken while using the Massivecraft Official texture pack. I use another pack, personally, but I suspect this and standard MC are the two most common textures used on the server.

JamziboyMinecraft did an amazing build of a desert town. Perhaps it might give you inspiration.
Also, I've never had the chance to build a desert town on survival before. Are you taking any experienced architects? I got a portfolio here.

Anyways, good luck! I can't wait to visit it when its finished. :D

I'm actually seeing a lot of similarities between that video and what we have built so far. Dagoska will be a small city in four tiers, a common/residential district, a market district, a military district and a palace district. We're working on the common district right now and will be moving on to the marketplace next, after which we may open the lower two tiers of the city to the public while we finish construction on the rest. I'd like to hear any suggestions anyone has for buildings, venues, services etc. that you would like to see implemented, though we are leaning toward a desert/Arabian sort of theme, so make sure the suggestions fit![DOUBLEPOST=1366585508,1366585448][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, we're not bringing on architects just yet, but we might be depending on the work load. I'll touch base with you if we end up bringing people onto the project.

You can have a "library" and a mosque.

I was thinking of an idea like this but instead it would be a traveling circus like thing.

All that rebuilding, though...[DOUBLEPOST=1366656682,1366652260][/DOUBLEPOST]More pictures here, including shots of a finished part of the residential district. Here we've built large apartment buildings and spacious houses for residents. Also shown is the cemetery, also located in the common district, and the catacombs that run underneath it. Where is it though, I would love to visit the city so far.

Here's the altar of light in the temple (an altar of darkness will likely be added as well, the temple representing the balance of light and darkness), a shot of the archery training field in the military quarter, and a rough shot of the palace gardens, and finally a shot of the Daendroc flag, the Aerie's symbol, flown at the top of the city.[DOUBLEPOST=1366787521,1366687754][/DOUBLEPOST]Still looking for suggestions for public buildings or venues. Here are some we've already built or plan to build:

Tavern/inn, cemetery, catacombs, church/mosque, palace, market, blacksmith, stable, barracks, arena, park.

Do you have a bakery yet?

We already have a tavern! It's quite a nice tavern. I think it will suit all our tavern-y needs.

You can also have a pottery shop.
