As the sun rose over the Milais estate in the wee hours of this morning, this author was found contemplating the merits of accomplishments. What are our accomplishments and how to we measure them. Something monumental to the world? Or a personal hurdle that has so long lingered in your heart, that every step to conquer it seems like a victory?

The beginning of this week saw all those of a martial mind fawning over Wilvamair Arnyn, the newly crowned Imperial Duellist. The ser has long since been a favorite in the Crown City, yet remains distinctly outside of the finer circles to which most knights aspire. Could it be that once burned, twice shy?

Meanwhile, it seems as if Duchess Mac Conall has dressed up the peerage’s duties as a social club, with an inside look into her rival’s outlooks to boot. Her ‘Nobles in Politics’ group is thriving, and this author can only wish her the very best as she travels down this smoothly cobblestoned road of social and political clubbing in between her ventures into the woods. The Duchess has such an affinity with nature that she’s been seen using leaves to great favor in her hairstyles. Perhaps a new fashion trend is emerging?

But, into the woods we continue to go! At the Strawberry Festival held by Countess Cecille Howlester this week, a great many of the peerage delighted in pastoral delights that too often escape them. Red fingertips and red lips devoured more than summer fruits as the twilight party carried on. A very pretty Duchess was seen sneaking off into the bushes with one of our more scholarly gentlemen, while a few of our more gruff lords were seen dallying with shy maidens under shadowy trees.

One maiden that is anything but shy is the Grand Duchess Milena Cadieux, whose tireless pen gives the nobility new rules, bylaws, and guidances by the hour. Which is surely excellent news for those poor souls who cannot find their own shoes with two valets and a map - but it does leave one questioning exactly how much of the nobility’s choice in their own behavior will be left to judge. Or if the waterfall of rules and regulations will continue to flow welcomed by the imperial court.

The peerage certainly embraced their vacation with open arms on Sunday night. The Mistress of Ceremonies opened the retreat in her usual elegant way, while the lords and ladies flooded the marble floors of Milais. It was quite a jovial atmosphere, with the Dukes Cadieux, Duchess and Duke Peirgarten, and Countess Black leading the charge of socialization. The family Wulfmacht continues to make an impression on nobility, quickly rising through their keen discipline and gregarious nature. While the Kassambara family continues to be ever present and elegant in their own quiet way.

Accomplishments can be such a tricky word. Does a lady playing on the piano count as truly accomplished? Or must each and every one of us vy to stand out from our peers? Shall we finally consider ourselves accomplished when we follow every rule to the letter? Or does it make us forging our own path ahead before we feel as if we can breath victory? Next week, dearest readers, we shall know who has stepped into the sparring ring on their way to accomplishment. Who will win, and who will be left in the dust?
