In truth, she was not their first child at all, but their third, and yet the only one of which would survive until her first birthday. Raised within Baldmark, her childhood was one of rough struggle, especially due to surviving in the lower class and upon her parents’ discovery of Constantine’s deafness. Despite her profound hearing loss, the child was no different than any other. She was stubborn, crass, and difficult to get along with when she wasn’t getting her way. Often she argued with her parents, who begrudgingly communicated with their sole child using their hands- whether that was signing or swatting, depended. Constantine took up a love for reading and excelled in the written word, which allowed her the skills of expanding beyond her mother’s Înnora and father’s Calem. Still, life found a way of reminding the Dascalus where they lived. Whilst chopping firewood, Constantine’s father was seized by Sanguine which lurked within the nearby forest. They brutally murdered him before turning upon the women of the household. Lipa, her mother, soon followed the fate of her father, both fed from, before the child was left to fend for herself, miraculously unscathed. Several days went by in which she waited in the rotting household for someone to discover her, and finally a neighbor did. Constantine was taken in for a time by the neighbor which had found her before she was turned over into the hands of the local Temple. She was nine at the time and still belligerent, especially so with people who did not bother to communicate with her in a way of which she understood. The clergy grew tired of babysitting and one of them investigated her perished family’s home until they discovered their ticket out of keeping her within their grounds- an old family record. Tracing not far from Constantine’s self, they discovered she had a living maternal aunt within Calemberg and she was sent off without warning to live with her. Constantine’s aunt was not pleased either at the appearance of the child. A once boldly Întuneric woman, she had appeased the beliefs of the Purist Wirtem and now shunned the pagan traditions of her childhood. Fearful that her new ward may be similarly corrupted, Constantine was pushed into the local Temple to study the Purist Movement alongside other neighborhood children. Upon reaching the age of thirteen, her aunt still found herself struggling with the girl, even if she had taken the patience to learn proper Sign and too convey that onto the teenager, and so Constantine was once more sent away, although this time to the Viridian Order. It was here that Constantine excelled. She was taken under the wing of an advisor that saw bright opportunity within the scorned child’s soul and knew that she would be made into a fine Knight with work. While willing to attempt anything thrown her way now that she was tossed into more physical attributes rather than mathematics or science, Constantine found a love for ranged weaponry, and even as some tried to sway her towards the rising popularity of the longarm firearm, she remained staunchly married to the crossbow. Years went by and the previously vengeful and angry girl was transformed into one that had spirit and purpose, most positively natured despite the dark atmosphere of her training. At the age of twenty-one, Constantine Dascalu graduated as a Viridian Sergeant-Knight. She lingered Calemberg still until she dreamt of a call to Regalia, which is brought her path to cross the Holy City. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ "Lie down—lie down!—my trusty hound! Death comes, and we must part— In my dull ear strange murmurs sound— More faintly throbs my heart; The many twinkling lights of heaven Scarce glimmer in the blue— Chill round me falls the breath of even, Cold on my brow the dew; Earth, stars, and heavens, are lost to sight— The chase is o'er— brave friend, goodnight!—" The Dying Hunter to his Dog | Susanna Moodie ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
