Comforting Warmth

I pressed my palm against the glass of the window and a frown deepened across my features as the cold began eating at the warmth in my fingers. Every now and then a snowflake would land against the window, causing the window to become the smallest bit colder.

Each day that passed by my worry grew larger. My worry may have grown, but I continued to put on a facade that nothing is wrong with me, and that the possibility of something happening to my family didn't affect me. I wasn't one who let personal emotions get in the way of my life outside of my household, but there are days where it had affected me. Such as today; I had decided to seek out my eldest sister Patience in a failed attempt to calm my nerves. The only times I ever felt calm was when I fell asleep at night, but even that was a temporary solace.

Nightmares of what could have possibly happened to them amidst this storm began to ravage my mind, leaving a devastation in its path. Nothing could soothe the nightmares, no matter how much I had tried…

Suddenly I'm pulled out of my partial trance as I felt a warm hand placed on my own, causing the lost warmth to slowly return to my body. The foreign hand pulled my hand off the window, and the owner of the hand began to guide me farther into the home and toward the rug on the floor in front of the fire. Another hand had gently guided me into a kneeling position in front of the fire.

As much as I wanted to, I didn't look up at the owner of the hands until one of the hands were put underneath my chin and began to lift my head up to meet the eyes of the owner, which was a woman with similar features to mine besides a few minor differences such as her features being a bit more aged than my own.

Her light celery eyes were partially shrouded by a few wisps of light blonde bangs, yet they still continued to bore into my skull as she took my hands in her own and tightened her grip around them, which caused, even more, warmth to spread through my fingertips.

Once she knew she had my attention she slowly began to speak in Leutz-Vixe with a motherly tone of voice, "Little Goose." At the sound of my childhood nickname, my hand twitched a tad bit between her hands which she had almost immediately registered. Her grip tightened once again and a reassuring smile spread across her face in a matter of seconds before she spoke again, "If you're still worried about our family, then I'm sure they're fine. Father wouldn't allow harm to come to our family, we both know this." As she spoke her voice didn't waver the slightest, but her words didn't sink inasmuch as they should have.

There was still worry spreading through my heart which only had caused me to shakily call out and question, "And what if they had become harmed, whether be injured or becoming ill from the cold?"

She removed one of her hands that were cupping my own and she brought her right palm to my cheek and she tried to brighten her smile a tad bit more to calm me, "Roesia, even if they had become ill or injured, Father would make sure they're well taken care of. As I said before, he wouldn't allow them to be put in harm's way; he'd keep them safe and warm."

I shakily spoke out, "Promise Big Sister?"

Her smile softened and she removed her hand that had been wrapped around my hands, and the hand that had been placed on my cheek then wrapped her arms around my neck in a tight hug and pulled me close, "I promise Little Goose."
