    Over the last week we have been developing an entirely new staff department known as the PvP department. Within this week, we have recruited members who will be responsible for developing and completing projects geared towards the improvement of PvP on MassiveCraft. More information regarding the role of this department can be found here.

    We’ve made an excellent amount of progress in little over a week, and we will continue to do so. Below are the changes done that affect PvP in the last week.

      Are vampires treated the same way as someone with the unholy trait? Making them take more damage from players with holy etc.

      I don't believe they're damaged, but they're given a variety of negative potion effects like blindness, slowness and weakness, and can be set on fire with enough holy water.

      thanks for the update, many appreciate all the work the whole team has done. Now we just need much better TPS to make benefit of all your work, so its possible to PVP more stabile, and not get effected random because of bad TPS. We look forward to follow your work.

      Doubling the damage dealt by archery is a rather poor choice in my eyes, considering how easy it would be to abuse the 33% strike activation with traits. From what I've seen, watching a person being stunned/blind from rapid arrow spam was already quite far from exciting PvP, though the damage dealt through those circumstances now being double the already high amounts you could previously achieve goes far from benefiting the community. Perhaps there is another option for buffing archers, seeing as it is mine and many others favorite roles in PvP, though increasing the damage from 200% to 400% should be pushed far out of the mind as an option.

      The objective of traits is to allow you many different play styles. I commend those players who have taken it upon themselves to make use of archery. Archery has seldom been used due to it's lack of damage and high risk of losing a valuable bow. A very important aspect of MassiveTraits to keep in mind, is the ability to counter what someone is doing. We have tested damage with bows in multiple setups, and the damage increase is appropriate. The archery traits have been nerfed in conjunction with the mcMMO increase. It is very easy to counter someone specializing in bows. Don't use ArcheryVulnerable, use ArcheryResist, spec yourself to use bows, or pearl and disarm/debuff. We're working on changing something that will definitely help with what you're referring to. In most cases.. bows seem over powered as they are because people rush into a situation and don't expect bows to be something they should be afraid of. They're caught off guard, they have ArcheryVulnerable, or they're over confident. I for one appreciate a change in the meta, and I disagree that bow damage is too strong based on testing. It takes 6-10 hits with a god bow against someone in god armor to kill them. That's a just about as effective as an axe. Based on skill, the effectiveness of a bow will increase or decrease. You need to land arrows. People will learn to play around archery. Archery deserves to be a feared play style. Every weapon needs to be feared and used.

      May I ask a question regarding archery?

      I am maxed, making my damage 400%

      If I do 1 heart worth of damage, I'll do 4 hearts of actual damage, right? (In theory of course)

      Now, if I add the ArcheryExpert trait, does it become 15% on top of 400%, making it 415%
      or does it become 15% of the final damage, adding it after the 400% (15% of 400% added onto 400%, which is 460% all in)

      Basically -
      If I do 5 damage, I do 20 with the 400%.

      If I use the trait;
      will I do 415% damage, and thus 20.75 damage ?
      or will I do 400% (20) + 15% of that, which is 23 damage ?

      If the answer is unclear or unknown I can just test it in game, or one of you guys can. =D

      On the whole topic of archery I did a little testing of my own and found that with archery vuln you take 5 hearts per hit once your absorption is broken while using full tank traits and this is without the use of the now enabled Harmstrike and Armorpenstrike. Bows need to be held to a different standard then most weapons because they have a clear advantage. You don't have to be near the person you are attacking (You can be inside a building completely untouchable) which as an axeman/swordsman is not TOO hard to deal with when there is just one. Unfortunately that's not usually the case when it comes to archers you're usually gonna be dealing with 2 or 3 which because they don't have to be anywhere near you they can take different positions all over the battlefield and just spam you with blindness, stun, nausea, poison, and decay and you have no defense against that like Skullsplit or Serrated Strikes because they're not gonna be close enough together for those to do any good and that's not to mention how debilitated you'll be from the arrow spam(this has been my experience from even before the buff).

      Bows have always been rather effective when used right. I mean archers like @Bsavs @Stonejrod and @ghostgoul seem to make them work just great. Bows aren't really meant to be a main attacking weapon anyway they are more for stealth kills and support for ground troups. Anybody stupid enough to run in close range with a bow deserves to die.

      Also this move was said to be done to balance out all the playstyles but if that is true then why was the weakest playstyle nerfed even more? Of course I'm talking about Unarmed which now the expert trait only adds a 15% boost to damage which now makes a playstyle that was really hard to get kills with before pretty much impossible now. People heal way too fast with traits and it just deals way too little damage while of course you take extra damage because axemen get a buff against you.

      I am very pleased with these great changes to pvp. And I have observed over the past week or so the average players went from 170 all the way 200-220 which is great. I'm guessing it's from the vampire plugin returning and MassiveCraft changing its description to an MMORPG attracted more players. I'm not sure if any of these new players are PvPers but we should think of some ideas to bring in more PvPers to the server so they can enjoy the fun we have.

      After extensive testing, buffing bows was the best decision. Bows are certainly effective, yet very skill based. I cannot agree with your statement of bows being a secondary weapon, as this is a simple matter of opinion. Some players may call their bow primary and a knockback II sword secondary. Archery is now a serious threat in all PvP environments. 70% of PvPers were running ArcheryVulnerable. I would really like to see them carelessly run that now.

      Just going to point out... archers were in the giant FFA lastnight. They weren't overpowered, just annoying a bit for the melees. I was able to get in their face and kill them many many times. I think I died once to ghostghoul. The fighting last night was a lot of fun, and it felt more balanced than any other time I've PvP'd on Massive. I'm not trying to be biased, but this isn't just my opinion. If you take excessive damage there's a reason for it. Again.. and I'm not sure why I have to keep pointing this out.. but you can easily counter build against an archer. If you meet a player that just seems to best you no matter how you try to fight them, then perhaps you should pay attention to what traits they might be using. If you don't like being locked down by a stun, get slow immune. I had no traits as a vamp last night, no healthboost, no aborption, and I played around archery just fine. @Jackmo_Jones You know darn well I'm gonna see unarmed buff buddy :p Don't worry.

      Look at the damage logs in my previous post. That will give you the order of operations. You also need to figure in armor and the MAGIC protection enchantment reductions to your damage as well.

      What buff do axemen get against unarmed? If you're referring to greater impact, that is against unarmored, not unarmed.

      Just curious were these results taken during a potted match? Was fire resistance used if it was a Flame boy?

      I see one of the results pulled a 7.4 which isn't too far off from the results I was seeing. My sparring partner was using a god bow with all enchants as well as Strength 2, Speed 2, etc. I was also using basic pots and decided against using Resistance as I wanted to see the damage difference.

      Ah, well I owe this bit of misinformation to all the McMMo instructional videos I've seen on Youtube. I did wonder why they would phrase it like that. I can understand the confusion though as seems like a pretty useless perk.
