Life Story Childhood Castien’s mom and dad had five children, all of whom were Voltalar Isldar. Castien’s family was involved in the Pillar of Sustenance, tending for and growing the frost-resistant fruits that were common for Isldar. Therefore, Castien was raised to take on this job in adulthood, specially groomed for working in agriculture. Because of this, his parents were strict on him and his siblings, and since Castien was the eldest of all his siblings his parents had the highest expectations of him. Despite him doing everything they asked, they still pushed him to do more. This led to him holding himself at unrealistic standards when it comes to helping, motivating, and protecting others. He often pushes himself to his limit when doing so, leading to burnout and self-isolation. Adolescence/Early Adulthood He longed to fix the damage of the Soul Rivers, and make an impact that even Frisit would be proud of. He begged his parents from adolescence into early adulthood to let him go around the world to repair the Soul Rivers. He wanted to protect the world from the potential extinction that would come from the Soul Rivers’ disruption. This, to him, was the most meaningful way to make a lasting impact and to help those living in the present and the future, even when he is long gone. He also wishes to achieve this by allowing souls to pass into the afterlife. His parents worried that he lacked the training to do so, fearing the dangers that the world outside of their village could present. Castien also strove to help others through his physical actions, protecting those that were unable to protect themselves when he was able and emotionally supporting those in the village and in his family that he was close to. However, he still struggled with dealing with his own issues, instead fixing the issues of others. Adulthood Convinced by his parents, Castien served in the Pillar of Sustenance up until age 30, when his drive to do more for the world and those around him became too much to bear. Knowing what he had to do and the harm that could come from it, he sought out training from Katar Shapetor, a Wind Watcher, in longbow combat. Once he became proficient, he prepared for his journey. He sat his parents down and told them of his plan to wander the world and fix what was damaged, and won’t forget the look of sheer disappointment across each of their faces. Knowing that they couldn’t change his mind, his parents gave him their heirloom longbow and a Wyvern mount to protect and assist him in his travels. Castien felt as though he had betrayed them, and feared facing them again. Instead, after he left to chase his destiny, he never ventured back. He wandered the world, exposing himself to many new cultures and ideas, all while tending to the Soul Rivers and guiding souls to the afterlife. As he learned more about those around him, he became more empathetic to their individual struggles, striving to help them with their issues and protect the weak from danger. Present In the present day, he resides in Regalia, unsure if his parents know if he’s alive or dead. He wants to visit them eventually but fears the potential confrontation that would come from it. Instead, he distracts himself with the tendings of the Rivers in Regalia and the surrounding areas and guides souls to the afterlife through his song and dance.
