"In following The Way, and by projecting the will of Cedromar I, we truly stand as the Bastion of the Empire.
You understand this, don't you?"
Day 1,
The First Patrol and the Gathering Storm
Eve fell upon the castle walls, the Gold rays raining upon the men as they stood to attention in the courtyard. All were mindful of their Kommandant Johann Eshevard, but none could keep their eyes off the Undercrown himself. You understand this, don't you?"
Day 1,
The First Patrol and the Gathering Storm
Summary: The Bastion Guard set off for a patrol in town. Following Grand Revain Ulric Typhonus' denounced the Undercrown Charles Montegaard whilst he was acting as Imperial Regent, he was demanded to recant. A dramatic scene ensued, with Carthas Norrvakt attacking and being slain, and Einarr Norrvakt being taken into custody as well. In securing Ulric, his knee was shattered and nose broke, delaying his release until treatment to a mob's dismay. Carthas' body was hung from the walls, and soon became an unnerving sight that served as both a warning and rallying cry.
"If any of you become lazy enough to gain a gut, do not count on some fanciful title here to keep you in service; We have patrols to maintain. Form two columns, on Johann and I."
Vasily Ostrovsky and Alric Aetcher took their spots immediately behind the two, and behind them their squadron. With rehearsed precision, the men quickly strode out of keep towards the most consistent source of offences: The Kade Tavern. Halted were they though by Ulric Typhonus, the Grand Revain of Calemberg.
Antagonizing one another on sight, a heated exchange ensued over Ulric's denunciation of Charles Montagaarde. Satisfying himself with some veiled comments, the Undercrown stole himself away towards the Tavern a second time - only to be cursed at. Neither man's pride knew any mercy, but twelve-dozen armed men and Imperial authority decided who would need such grace.
Demanding he recant, the Bastion Guard surrounded Ulric so he may not pass without apology. As Imperial Regent in the Emperor's absence from Regalia, the Undercrown made clear refusing to recant would lead to his legal arrest. So dramatic was the scene that bar patrons came forth, and many of those who had been walking between markets. So swiftly there did things remove themselves from any's grasp.
Securing the flank though had now left only Virathus between a growing crowd of already dozens of fearful denizens. To scan anywhere but behind him was to see a wall of men and women, jaws agape. Nearly everyone clamoured in outrage or support.
So desperate did two Bastion Guards become to secure Ulric in their company to the Bastion that they struck the back of his knee, and pounded his face with a pommel. They removed themselves from the scene safely, many of the bewildered people pursuing. A raucous mob was quickly convinced to shout obscenities while reveling by the King of Brichauds, who himself vomited on the drawbridge after a great deal of drinking. Philip Kade tended to the Typhonus Patriarch and revealed the damage done; his knee was shattered, and nose broke. He mirrored the initial growing defacement of the Guardsmen, and their immobility.
Tossing stones and cursing wildly, the crowd erected tents. Electing to stay the night, it was not clear if they would ever be evicted.
By the night's end, the fatally wounded Carthas was given quick mercy killing rather than watch him wither. As a ward against those who would take up arms against the guardsmen, they hung his body from the walls. Einarr Norrvakt was tried for his poisonous words about the Undercrown, costing him a sixth of his wealth. Ulric Typhonus, critically injured, was tended to by Philip Kade, stabilizing his condition so that he may leave without peril.
Day 2,
The Lightningless Thunder and the Orderly Patrol
Dawn's air was filled with palpable danger though, as it seemed the crowd only grew as grubby peasantry came about to reinforce the rowdy townsfolk. Recommencing their barrage of profanity and insult, these people now raised weapons. The Lightningless Thunder and the Orderly Patrol
Summary: Growing larger and more furious, the crowd armed themselves. A confrontation seemed to be brewing, and Minister Hamelin d'Vaud had an attempt to kidnap him orchestrated by Ivar Valdmar's lackeys. Soon divisiveness dissuaded much of the mob remaining from the day before to disperse, but the beggars and vagrants took to the tents they set up. A patrol was sent out that evening like the day before, successful in their search for elves and a Varren. Said Varren, one Fawzi Kra'zzal, accepted the name Francis Karzal and a position as a Consul on the Reichstadt. A Shendar was caught and given a large bronze collar; a degrading reminder of her class and mutation - her horns.
And with this additions of arms did everything seem to change.
The standoff seemed to near an incriminating exchange, and during this time Ivar Valdmar almost successfully kidnapped Hamelin d'Vaud, hoping to use him as leverage against the stoic men of the Bastion. In bungling hands were though plans left though, as the woman Ivar had sent was quickly thwarted by the Minister and his guard. Nothing now seemed sacred, as every opportunist struck out in the chaos. Even the Ministers of the Empire could not move without constant alert and danger, the violence promoted now even by hot headed lords.
Soon a duel nearly broke out between Einarr Norrvakt and Joshua Kade. The crowd was there for blood, and nearly turned on one another, but reason was soon sought rather than battle. Many chose to desert the protest on this note, a greater flood of beggars and thieves taking up their old temporary residences.
Opportunity arose through this, the Bastion Guard seized the chance to continue its duties to the Emperor. As evening once again allowed the sun's smile to shine over the men again, they marched out to seize Altalar, and sought a Varran. Batons were used in place of swords, and those who assaulted the guard were beaten severely, rather than maimed by swords. The mob was driven off of the property several times, finally dispersing after several successful raids. Signs the vandals put up were destroyed and replaced, and order was restored to the park for a time.
Soon, they found the Varran they sought; after a quick and courteous interview, Fawzi Kra'zzla accepted the name Francis Karzal becoming a consul of the Reichstadt. So concerned were the people who witnessed him with the Bastion Guard that a new mob formed, and from them a horned Shendar was plucked.
Within the walls though, the Shendar brought inside was given a major symbol of her class for her mutation; a thick, bronze collar. Locked there it would remain, a symbol of shame. She was released without much hassle, but the world would come to see this new and curious symbol of law...
Shoutout to them boys @Jonificus @Aespair @Alt_Knight @Dougstalicious @KingHamwagon @ClockworkElves @Valentinian @seannie @Kalthof @DelendaEst and @Fatherland , this was perhaps one of the most interesting rp experiences I've participated in. Couldn't help but pop out an RP post! I will be making more posts from Virathus' perspective, and depending on the consent of some lords, I may make some RP letters surrounding this to post. Hope ya liked it!
