    Personality

How would your character express Happiness and Contentedness?
Brandt has a penchant to brood. Many don’t see the happier, lighthearted side of him. His usual range of expression ranges from impassivity to scowling. When happy or content, he might smile, many acquaintances would be quick to call this a rare occurrence, but they haven’t seen him around the rest of his family, who get to hear his jokes… Which may or may not cause their ears to bleed.

How would your character respond to experiencing Fear?
If the fear is physical, such as an approaching enemy, or perhaps even threatened harm, Brandt’s first instinct is to fight. He is a trained Knight who is confident in his abilities. This, sometimes to his detriment, extends to situations where he is either outmatched or severely disadvantaged. A good example is a sword placed at his neck. In this situation, he will try to figure a way to fight himself out of it- though whether or not he tries whichever unlikely plan he thinks up is another matter altogether. Regardless, this is the first place Brandt’s mind goes. If the fear is less physical, something dark and looming in the future, Brandt struggles. He will try to avoid it, run in the figurative sense. He will never admit to it, he often isn’t aware of it, and he will only turn around and confront it if someone he trusts first confronts him.

How would your character respond to experiencing Stress?
If the stress is minor, he will fiddle with the buttons on his tunic, drum his fingers along a table, or continuously tap his foot. Otherwise, he will seek out a sparring partner, a training dummy, or the air in front of him, and begin swinging his sword. If he is unable to do that due to situational or physical constraints, he will perhaps punch a wall, wordlessly yell, or verbally lash out against the people around him. Once he has finished dealing out lashings, either physically with a sword in hand or verbally with naught but words at his disposal, he will take a breather and go for a short walk. He may even commandeer the nearest horse from its home in a public stable for a fast adrenaline-filled ride, before finally slowing down and finding the best sort of inner peace he can, even if he’s only in the eye of an approaching storm.

How does your character view Law and Authorities?
Brandt views them as a necessary and important part of society. He believes that societal structure has only progressed as far as it has because of the legal and governmental systems that the Ailor have built. He believes, fully, in the Everwatcher and the need for The Regalian Empire, its government, ideals, and institutions to expand across the world.

How does your character feel about Races other than their own?
In Brandt’s eyes, The Ailor people are the more equal race, they’ve been chosen to pave The Great Way. The other races misstep, they need guidance. They need to be turned away from their natural, heretical, ways and brought into the fold of Unionism.

How does your character feel about Religion for themselves and other faiths?
Brandt is a Unionist. To him, all other religions are false, made up, in opposition to The Great Way.

How does your character feel about the Arcane and Magical in the world?
He sees it as an unnatural perversion of reality, something to be controlled, dominated and used to the benefit of the Empire. Never to be allowed to reign free, otherwise, the Regalian Empire will fall as the Allorn Empire did before it.

How does your character feel towards their family?
Brandt is loyal to his family. He has fond childhood memories of his siblings and cousins. After spending many years away from his kin while training to become a Viridian Knight, he is now doing everything he can to reconnect with all of them.

What is your character proudest of about themselves?
Brandt is most proud of his station as a Viridian Knight. He takes pride in the years of work and training it took to become one and in his Order as a whole.

What motivates your character to move forward and better their life?
Brandt seeks to become his best self so that he can defend both his family and the Empire. He wants his family to be safe. On a larger level, that means keeping the empire safe by fighting to protect everyone and everything he cares for.

What is your character's biggest insecurity?
Brandt can get lost in the subtleties of social interactions. They’ve never been his forte, he’s never really understood sarcasm, though more often than not he can differentiate it. He fears misinterpreting some veiled meaning or another and tends to overthink things. He doesn’t care for small talk and prefers to address things directly, getting straight to the point.

What is your character's biggest fear?
After having lived through two sieges, and having witnessed the death of many friends, Brandt fears being alone.

    Life Story

    Birth and Childhood:
Brandt was born to Otto von Eisner on the 26th of March, 280 AC. He is Otto's second son. Brandt got along well with his siblings and his grandfather. While Brandt's older brother, Erick, was on track to become a proper Calderligan Merchant, Brandt was entranced with the stories of knights and of becoming one. Otto von Eisner liked the idea of having a Viridian Knight for a son. when Brandt turned seven, he sent him to the Crown Isle to become a Page in the Viridian Order.

    Training as a Viridian Knight:
Brandt learned discipline early on as a page. He quickly took to riding lessons, but he struggled with combat for some time. He progressed but was never as good as the other pages. It wasn't until an old knight named Wilmar saw something in Brant and took him on as a squire, that the young Viridian began to excel in swordsmanship.
Under the firm guidance of his mentor, Brandt worked harder than he ever had before. Wilmar had a way of teaching that made things click in Brandt's mind, and the boy quickly caught up with his peers.
Brandt traveled through the Archipelago with his mentor, during these travels, the two would often take time to travel off the beaten path and observe nature. Wilmar owned a Calemberger Adelaar, and Brandt learned to care for it on their journeys together. In many ways, Wilmar was like a father to Brant. When Brant turned nineteen, the two returned to the Viridian Castle on the Crown Isle. Brandt quickly gained the respect of his peers. He was one of the best in his age range with the sword and shield and was a skilled rider to boot. He lived through the Seige of 304 AC, during the Anahera Dictatorship. He graduated one year later in 305 AC, roughly a month before the Lo Occupation.

    Adulthood:
Brandt was held up in the Viridian Castle with many of his brother-knights during the Lo Occupation. He fought valiantly, but he witnessed the deaths of countless knights, including Wilmar. In the end, before the castle fell, he retreated. He was one of the few knights to escape the conflict.
The battle left him shocked and dismayed. He never imagined that the Viridian Order could fall as it did. He soon began to suffer from survivor’s guilt and blamed himself for the death of Wilmar. Brandt left the Crown Isle and traveled aimlessly around the Archipelago for some time. When news reached him that his brother, Erick von Eisner, had been given the patriarchy of House von Eisner, and was in the process of moving the family to the Crown Isle, he set off to join his kin, wanting to reconnect with them after having spent so many years apart. Brandt is beginning to come to terms with the death of Wilmar in early 309 AC after a meaningful discussion with Howland von Schwarzkrau on the code of Ehrenhof, Knighthood, and dealing with failure. When visiting the ruins of the old Viridian Castle, Brandt encountered Wilmar’s Calemberger Adelaar who he previously presumed dead or long gone, roosting in the rafters. Brandt took the bird as his own, having spent years caring for it under the guidance of Wilmar himself.

@Follower I did a semi-rewrite of the character to comply with the new no schooling rule for knights. I made changes to the proficiency section, the life story, and, now that I've spent more time playing Brandt, I've expanded further on some points in the personality section. I haven't made any drastic changes there, just some slight edits and expansions.

@Caelamus This is the last edit for a while, I hope. Now that I've been playing this character longer, I've reworked proficiencies to better fit how I want to play Brandt. I've expanded the backstory to work the new or changed proficiencies in and expanded the backstory as a whole to be less barebone.

@Caelamus I've aged Brandt down to 25, changed his backstory to reflect this, changed around some proficiencies, and altered the personality section somewhat to better reflect how I've come to play the character. Changes have been made in Green.
