Battle of the Sudlandet landing
The next battle in the Qadir war was to take place at the Sudlandet landing. The Regalian fleet was able to land their troops and supplies in an orderly fashion, the Qadir did not come out to deter the Regalians from landing. The Regalians set up their base camp in an orderly fashion, and eventually started forming the battle plan for the Qadir's swift arrival. The Qadir did come, with more numbers like usual, and still cheering from the recent defeat they had inflicted upon the Regalians. The vanguards took their positions, the flanks were secured and the battle started at noon.
The first vanguard to engage was Gustavo Anahera's cavalry vanguard, supported by Piero di Orazio's tactical skill, with Kyel Tinker and Harald Fuchs acting as his bodyguard. Gustavo himself led the charge of the cavalry on the Qadir flank that was not expecting the Regalians to make the first move. This charge was orchestrated by Piero di Orazio, who saw through the Qadir's complacency and ordered the charge to take them by surprise. Gustavo gloriously rode his jetblack Northern horse into the vanguard, urging on the troops and inspiring them like the Daendroque horserider legend of Vivaraldo. Gustavo's vanguard utterly crushed the Qadir vanguard, eradicating a large number of Qadir troops and sending shockwaves of terror through the entire flank. Kyel Tinker and Harald Fuchs both distinguished themselves as excellent equestrians, riding by Gustavo's side the entire time and not breaking their position.
The second vanguard made their move, led by Thomas Kade, supported by Graeton Pileran as tactician and Jared Silverhand, Tristan Lamperouge and David Watson as bodyguards. Graeton made a similar move to the Orazio, the two having discussed their plans for battle intently beforehand. Thomas made an even better cavalry charge than Gustavo Anahera, utterly wrecking the other Qadir vanguard, wiping out the majority of the troops and aggravating the central flank with the massive pile-up of losses. In a horrendous turn of events however, a Qadir horseman charged at Thomas with a fistlance, crashing it headlong into Thomas's chest, crushing his ribcage and collapsing his lungs. Thomas was flung off his horse in sight of horror by his bodyguards, who quickly dismounted and ran over to the Imperial Prince. Graeton Pileran ever tactical, quickly devised an exit plan with the Bodyguards, allowing them to carry Thomas to safety of the base camp where a team of doctors and healers would immediately stabilize him, however disabling the other bodyguards from doing anything meaningful in the battle. Graeton Pileran was however able to maintain the momentum and secure victory.
The left flank then made their move, Mathias Paschen sending his skirmishers forward to harass the Qadir lines. Originally, it seemed like the Qadir would push back the Regalians, while not specifically messing up, the assigned tactician Damon Sictor had no training in combat direction, and caused confusion among the battle lines. The Qadir had already suffered severe losses on that side during Gustavo's charge however, and utterly collapsed when volleys of arrows mowed them down shortly afterwards. None of the participants in this flank did anything noteworthy.
The right flank presented the first problems. This flank had been equipped with Christopher Black as an officer, one who had been badly wounded during last battle breaking both his legs. When in direct combat with his Qadir adversaries along with his bodyguards Grey Draegen and Donnel Einarr, Christopher's leg splints broke from a blunt strike by a Qadir, sending Christopher down to the ground with intense pains and re-broken bones. Donnel Einarr attempted to help him up, but in doing so was shot with an arrow in the back and fell over forward into the dirt. Grey Draegen was unable to evacuate Christopher with the help of their tactician, Octavious Solare, who tried to win the battle, however the flank was lost. The troops started acting disorderly, frightened by the agonizing screams of their Earl, and eventually fled. Christopher was quickly captured by the advancing Qadir, he was unable to move. Gustavo was unable to re-organize the troops back into battle from the sideline as the Vanguard, and eventually decided to turn and run when the skirmishers on the other side but their arrows to his cavalry. The left flank, despite being victorious, also lost all hope due to the serious wound inflicted on the Prince, and fell apart, though retreating in a somewhat orderly fashion without too many casualties. Donnel Einarr was left in the mud, nobody really knew who he was, and so he was captured by the Qadir who moved up from behind the flank.
It eventually fell upon the central flank led by Ulric Typhonus to hold the battle, supported by Cedric Kade, Aedwyn Kade and Lysander Lamperouge as bodyguards and Maximillian Typhonus as tactician. Despite Maximilian's attempts to form a pincer shield to maximize the damage output, the army was quickly beset on both sides and eventually Ludwig Fuchs simply signalled the retreat to avoid losing more high profile troops, in favor of returning behind the makeshift moats around the Regalian base camp. The vast majority of the troops managed to escape, but Ulric and his bodyguards were caught in the frontline retreat. The four attempted to safely make it out, yet arrows flew past them from all directions. Ulric eventually decided to stand his ground, yelling "The curse of Calemberg ends here!". Some troops went with him, but he was eventually hopelessly surrounded. This move did do something however, as it allowed Lysander Lamperouge, Cedric Kade and Aedwyn Kade to reach the moats. The Qadir horde was unable to cross the moat but quickly surrounded what troops had been unable to retreat. Cedric, Aedwyn and Lysander fought off many Qadir, Cedric in particular showing much ferocity around Aedwyn, but the battle was hopelessly lost at this point. Aedwyn suffered a minor cut on his arm from an arrow flying just past it, after which he grabbed Cedric by what little armor he was carrying and tossed him across the moat with Lysander's help, Cedric meanwhile cursing in obscenities at being thrown out of the battle. Lysander managed to jump across safely, reaching for the pulling up drawbridge, however Aedwyn Kade was captured.
And so the battle of Sudlandet landing was fought, and lost, though many Regalians claimed it was not a loss. The Regalians had been unable to secure victory or push the Qadir back, but the vanguard's victory had caused nearly quadruple the amount of Qadir casualties. This however came at the cost of the loss of the Arch Chancellor, Ulric Typhonus, Earl Christopher Black, Aedwyn Kade and Donnel Einarr. The Crown Prince sent word that he was satisfied with the results of the battle, though wished to see the return of his kin and the Arch Chancellor, promising a big reward for whoever proved instrumental to return the Chancellor. Indeed, this would be a risky move. The Qadir knew Ulric was the Chancellor and would not stuff him in some normal prisoner camp.
