Okay, so I've been seeing these threads around asking for Cayorion or someone to program in some sort of punishment for bad roleplayers. Now, with four new upcoming races, a traits plugin hinted at a while back and new worlds left, right and centre, do you really think the staff should waste time on doing something we have an effect on?
People are suggesting mutes and/or disabling features for 'bad' roleplayers. This is wrong. As Ryciera, Tom1804 and others have said, to stop bad roleplay we must encourage good roleplay. Think of it this way; would you rather be given a treat if you did good, or a punishment if you did bad? How do people train pets, do they give them treats if they do good or continually scold them and treat them terribly? Using the latter reaps worse results than the former. Do you know why? Because people like being rewarded. Don't you love that feeling when you know you've done something right? That's exactly what a reward would do. A feeling of accomplishment beats a feeling of helplessness.
The best reward- and with the least coding, as in, none- is be the reward. If you see a new player, give them some tips on how to improve RPing, or teach them entirely. When they do it well, reward them, be it give them an item or verbal praise. We have the power to end bad roleplaying, but that's only if we turn it into good. So stop complaining! Get out there and use what the staff gave you! If people troll, sure, get report-happy, but if a player wants help you have a duty as a roleplayer to teach them how to roleplay properly.
In summary, don't ask for more things off the staff! We don't need any new resources to prevent bad roleplay, as we have the knowledge and capabilities to do it ourselves! The only way we can improve the quality of an individual's roleplay is if we take matters into our own hands. The staff already do a lot for us- an amazing, almost inhuman amount of work for us- so we definitely don't need them to baby every new player and put even more on their plate. Get out there and we can take care of bad roleplayers. There's enough of us with experience in the community to handle teaching at least one person to RP. And when they learn, they can teach someone to RP, and so the cycle will continue. There will be only a small percentage of the community who don't roleplay properly on purpose- and that small percentage is why we have a report system.
But this is only a minority of 'bad roleplayers'- the rest are good roleplayers who don't know how yet. You can't give someone tools and call them a craftsman, they need to be taught how to use them. Just make sure you try to make an effort yourself. The wellbeing of the server is made up of many staff contributions and efforts, but how we use these as a community makes their efforts worthwhile. Don't make them believe they've wasted their time; they haven't. We can do it! The staff have given so much to us, so let's give back a little and show them the community care and want to help out too!

Not sure if you've seen the certain vampire in the Tavern... But I know that I've personally TRIED to help him out... but he doesn't care, he honestly just loves to God RP and then criticize others when they do...

Edit: Aside from that case though, I do agree with you about that! Nobles might actually consider recruiting them to their family if they have open spots.

In extreme cases where people refuse to stop and God RP for the purpose of God RPing, it's recommended to report the person. This is trolling, and in my opinion trolls are a lost cause. At least noobs and people who just aren't very good want to improve and be a part of the community, but trolls actually wish to bring the community down. As stated, though, this is usually a minority of people, and shouldn't put you off helping people who want to be helped.

It's hard to teach someone who's throwing lightning balls at you while simultaneously summoning the undead for you to fight off with your broadsword they cut in half with their mind.

Again, you have to explain these things to people. They are most likely doing this because they don't understand the lore or something. About 80% of noobs envision being a huge hero and super-important immediately, so it's up to us to teach them normal is fun. A good example is my friend tcarey's character Thomas Descranith. He is a normal guy, but lives a pretty nice life. He has a job, he has friends, he's happy. It's important to educate people in the fact they can have fun without being the Almighty Jedi Mage King they envisioned.

I definitely agree, and I try to help when possible.

Oh, very well written. It's nice to see such a positive thread and one that encourages all players to help in - and it's so easy to do.

The solution is simple and so effective - not to mention how we can all chip in by simply offering a hand.
It's really lovely that you've taken the time to write this.

My one problem is that new people sometimes think the world revolves him. Several times i have gaven a small lecture about the lore of a question, lets say vampires for example. You say all vampires are evil, and explain why, and the most weirdest answer i got "The lore is just a book or something" Yes i do have proof, do i want to bring it up? Nah. So what i think is any of these "Careless" Players should be reported on a thread, a roleplay reporting thread. I had an idea where all the constant bad rp'ers could be seen and reported, to prevent hate threads and give the rp staff an overall view of who they need to land, or in this case, the players

I try help a lot of new players, I tend to walk around listening to RP and telling them if what thy are doing is against the lore or just god RP. Some listen, while others just ignore me or start to attack me IC.

Lovely idea! I'll start to carry some iron or something around.
And Hiddenmonkey10 , is that certain vampire a guy with the last name of "Dracula?" Because I have seen him, as well.

I remember when I first joined the server
"Shayin, Elven Hero"
...
That was my first title in Hisoka.
...
Lawl. Look at me now. Nerdy Flower- Crazed Elf.

Yeah, I get that problem too. I was once having to answer questions from a newb and a noob in general chat, and the fricking chat cooldown made it very hard. One of them was just curious, and the other one was being an idiot and arguing with everything I said, in the kind of 'But outlawing vampires is like being mean to people with cancer!' and 'They don't HAVE to be evil, a disease can't make someone evil, that's retarded!'

I wish that mour people whoud come to shadowkings star wars RP it's gona be awsome

I first supported the idea of rating someone's roleplay skill, but now I see that I was wrong. I wasn't a good roleplayer in the beginning and maybe I still need to train too. I'm not perfect either, no one is. I remember my first days on massivecraft, not knowing how to roleplay and asking where I could train my 'black magic' skills. But after informing the website, I saw there was no such thing. Now I agree with the fact we need to help eachother to become better and better. But what still annoys me and always will... Skins! If someone wants to learn how to roleplay, than get a proper skin. Don't play a Human with a trololol skin or a robot skin. Headsets also annoys me, we are roleplaying in medieval times, I never have heard of a medieval person with a headset... If you realy would want to take effort on learning how to roleplay, then get a skin that fits your character. So if we see someone with a skin that doesn't fit his race or the roleplay, we should warn them and ask them to get a proper skin. Well, I think I said everything, for now.

I'd happily do this if I have the time. I won't just go walking around Regalia to find some newcomers, but I'll try if I happen to come across them.

I got lucky, I started out with people who already did RP extremely well and knew the server lore. Had they not been there I am absolutely sure I would be a vampire running around the streets of Regalia right now. I still have a extremely long way to go before I ever reach any where close to their level, as I have recently shown some people. However I believe that anyone, including myself can become better at RP no matter how bad they are now, and what you have said here just expresses that feeling perfectly.

This was actually something I've been trying to do through roleplay. For example there was a newble (yes, I call them newbles) that was trying to roleplay as one of the various rebellion leaders and such, and I had told her all the things that would happen if she continued like being arrested and so-on, it seemed to have worked since she had changed how she was roleplaying by the time I saw her next. It's actually worked in multiple other cases, too.

This is very touching.

;(

I believe that anyone who wants to learn and is willing to listen deserves to be taught. The problem is, too many people share a similar mentality, but say 'I'll let someone else teach him/her'. This is fundamentally silly. If someone is continuously directed elsewhere, they'll give up.

A simple, quick way to remedy this is to tell someone what they are doing wrong. For example, if someone you don't know comes up to you and says 'Hello, (Insert RP Name Here)', there is no point telling them that they are metagaming unless you explain what it is to them and why it is frowned upon.

However, if people are disrupting RP intentionally (And it's clear when they are.), passive resistance is probably a better method. /ignore (Player name here) is your friend!
