Visual Information
  • Describe the Character's facial features, like the shapes of their eyes, mouth, ears, the size of their forehead, what kind of expression they usually carry, any freckles, scars etc, hair color, hair style and more. This description is purely for the head (and by extension neck) alone.

  • Describe the Character's body. Go into detail about height, body shape, the color of their skin, the size of their bones and muscles, their amount of fat, any physical disabilities they may have, their amount of body hair if applicable and more. This description is purely for the body.

  • Describe the Character's fashion appearance and accessories.
    • Aloma typically wears clothing that he himself has created, with neutral, earthy tones. He maintains a 'natural' colour palette, with minimal vibrancy. However, his clothing is remarkable in its intricacy; each piece of cloth is embroidered with Meraic, Shalota and Sofaal tales of his own past and stories told to him as a child. More generally, the most characteristic fashion choice of the Maraya is to consistently wear draping fabrics; shawls, mantles, shashes and so on.
  • Describe the character's voice.
    • Aloma has quite a distinctive voice and speech pattern. He is not a quick thinker, and especially in Common and other non-native languages, often takes time to deliberate over his choice of words. This manifests as frequent pauses, hums and repetitions unless he feels for some reason at liberty to speak particularly slowly and carefully. His accent is still tinged with Sofaal, but he has made an effort to learn the correct Common pronunciations of Common words, and as such the accent is minimal. His voice itself is relatively high-pitched, but not nasal or whiny; he has a lilting, soft and melodic quality to his speech which is often attributed to his El-Maraya heritage.

Personality and Abilities
  • How would your character express Happiness and Contentedness?
    • Aloma is not one to become excited; instead, he will tend to show his happiness as a warm contentedness that generally makes him more agreeable and forgiving. When in a good mood, he is often seen as a very soft, breezy, go-with-the-flow sort of person.
  • How would your character respond to experiencing Fear?
    • Often to his detriment, Aloma has the tendency to freeze in moments of panic. Speaking becomes quite difficult, and his fear is normally quite evident to those around him.
  • How would your character respond to experiencing Stress?
    • When stressed, he can become more irritable, trying to speed up everything that he is doing so as to get through it as quickly as possible; in most cases, stress makes him sloppy. When it comes to weaving and sewing and so on, the opposite is true. When under pressure to finish a job quickly and to a high standard, his performance improves.
  • How does your character view Law and Authorities?
    • Aloma has no particular distaste or reverence for authorities in general. He is more likely to submit to the authority of an old, wise figure than a younger and more charismatic one, and generally values intelligence in his leaders over brawn or persuasiveness.
  • How does your character feel about Races other than their own?
    • While he is often taken aback at the weird and wonderful variety of some races, being limited in his education, Aloma is not racist. He has a greater opinion of his own race, but does not feel any hatred or distaste towards others, and in fact makes a conscious effort not to judge people by appearances.
  • How does your character feel about Religion for themselves and other faiths?
    • The only religions that Aloma sees any value in are his own spiritual beliefs and the Shambala faith. Beyond that, he sees religion as completely fictitious and ultimately useless.
  • How does your character feel about the Arcane and Magical in the world?
    • Aloma sees the good and bad sides of magic. On the one hand, he very much enjoys watching magic being cast, especially the more beautiful forms. That being said, he does respect its power and has a baseline fear of mages as powerful beings capable of bewildering feats.
  • How does your character feel towards their family?
    • Aloma is still very close to his family and community, despite being out of contact with them. He genuinely intends to return to them after he has experienced more of the world, perhaps bringing back useful information or materials.
  • What is your character the most proud of about themselves?
    • Without a doubt, Aloma is most proud of his weaving. He is not a very proud person, but it is his main skill and something which he extracts a lot of joy and satisfaction from.
  • What motivates your character to move forward and better their life?
    • Curiosity and a desire to be successful in his chosen craft.
  • What is your character's biggest insecurity?
    • Probably his inability to fend for himself 'in the wild'. Coming from a small community that lives off the land and as such values practical skills like fishing and agricultural prowess, he feels insecure about his lack of any sort of proficiency to assist him in the wilderness or even in the shadier parts of town. He feels like he is essentially dependent on others for his survival, which he dislikes.
  • What is your character's biggest fear?
    • That he is cut off from his family somehow and dies alone.

The following is not required when filling out your character application. You may use bullet points or paragraphs, and are welcome to add more or less information as you see fit. The information in this section will not be reviewed. Want to be extra helpful to your reviewer? Use the Spoiler feature to make the content hidden so readers can read it when they want to, or skip it!

  • Describe any number of Character Quirks your character has, strange behavior that they exhibit in certain situations. For example, a character rubbing a beard when nervous is a quirk, or a character biting their lips when doing math is a quirk, or a character shuffling their feet when talking to someone is a quirk. Quirks are not mandatory and may be left out if the writer doesn't want to include them or can't think of any.

  • Describe your character's skills; abilities they've developed, but not necessarily put at the forefront of their lives. For example, if your character is a good cook, but not a chef, or if they are a good horse rider but not necessarily a competition racer, you would mention them here. Feel free to mention multiple skills but try to keep your character from becoming over skilled.

Relationships

Add Relationships to NPC and player characters. Write this list of relationships with a bullet point. Describe what their current relation to one another is, and how they originally met. If you want to, you can add flavor by @tagging the player behind the character next to the character name. Relationships are a great way to socialize with other players! Speculate on relations, ship characters and create lasting friendships and nemeses! This section, while optional, is especially recommended if you want to create a social feel to your Sheet.

Life Story

Born into a small community of primarily El-Maraya living in a very small settlement (a gathering of huts) on the coast of Farah'deen, not far off the road between two Songaskian seaside towns. The Marayan community was largely invisible to the Masaya, as they rarely traded and only occasionally interfered with merchants on the road. That being said, some resources such as textiles and metals were sparse and the Maraya were incapable of gathering them themselves, so they had to be stolen from travellers.

Aloma, however, was never particularly interested in becoming a bandit. From a young age he instead showed a remarkable propensity for, and interest in, weaving. Indeed, weaving was an important cultural aspect of the Marayan settlement as they had very little paper and stone was very difficult to smooth to provide a drawing surface; thus, tapestries in simple monochrome were the only real way for the group to record tales and express themselves artistically. As such, Aloma's parents were keen to encourage this interest and as a result he spent much of his early childhood sitting on the beach under the hot sun, weaving plant fiber from dried seaweeds, roughvine (with limited success) and what cotton they could intercept on the road.

A quiet and considerate child, he had a remarkably pacifist nature about him and a curious streak that manifested in his desire to uncover the history of his family -- and indeed, his community. Prevalent in their micro-society was an adapted, watered-down version of Shambala, with a focus on lineage and ancestry that was so popular with the Songaksia, so naturally the boy started asking his parents about his ancestors. His parents themselves knew little about history, so instead they told him tales of ancient magic and old beings that held dominion over the world before all others; vague recollections of the truth spun into bedtime stories. A number of these godlike Meraic were given fictional names and used as moralistic devices to teach the boy about right and wrong. After his parents' encouragement, Aloma adopted one as a patron in the typical Songaskian fashion; Dalmellia, the Weaver. Despite the tales being absolutely unproven and probably untrue, they spread and integrated into the small group of Maraya, particularly the young ones, who were drawn to their intriguing fantasy.

As he grew up, this interest grew more intellectual in nature. He wanted to meet others of his race, people who he didn't yet know; apart from anything else, he wanted a change. He was still fascinated by his history and lineage, and of course, he had become frustrated with the rarity of proper fabric or materials for his weaving. In his late teens, he asked for his parents' permission to leave for the nearest Songaskian town and begin his travels, and after some deliberation, that permission was granted. At 19 he made his way off, making the promise to return as often as he could.

Travelling didn't much suit Aloma, as he was never particularly extroverted and preferred to keep to himself. Regardless, he was more or less forced into socialising with the locals by his need to make money to sustain himself; he didn't know how to hunt or fish or fend for himself. That meant he had to sell clothes, artwork and even cooperate with craftsmen to create basic armour for his money. He didn't make very much, but he stayed for many years in that coastal Masaya town and saved up to allow him to leave Farah'deen completely -- which he did, eventually. Wanting a real change, he picked the biggest empire he was aware of, the Regalian Empire, and asked to be taken to its capital. Due to the somewhat shady nature of transportation, the journey was difficult and ended up being more expensive than he was at first led to believe. When he finally did arrive in Regalia, he had no money, minimal clothing, and only a bag of supplies to his name, and had to secure work quickly. Thankfully, his skill with weaving was quite employable, and he actually began to make quite a comfortable amount of money by offering commissions to the nobility.

Since then, Aloma has lived in Regalia. He takes an interest in his own culture and seeks to research it whenever possible, but he is by no means a scholar; now, he takes the occasional commission and otherwise lives comfortably off his savings. In recent years, he has begun to make regular expeditions to meet with his fellow Maraya in Hadar, living aboard the Home Swarm for a short time. Here, he picked up a small number of spells, purely for utility, which he brought back with him to Regalia. He still travels back to Farah'deen -- and now the Home Swarm -- regularly, at least once a year.

Hello The_Unknown, here is my review for your character:

Languages:
Languages are inherited from parent's culture, not whether they spoke a language or not. Unfortunately, this means that you'll need to invest 6 points into Linguistics Knowledge to access Sofaal.

Please tag me when you are done with this edit, and I'll take another look.

@Arendan Hello!
Age has been increased to 31 to accommodate for a large threads proficiency, which has settled at 25. Added in 6 linguistic knowledge for Sofaal. All edits are written in blue.

Changed the Lashing racial proficiency to Literary. No need for a tag or a re-review, just noting it here.

Bump, as the thread fell to the 5th page. Also, some personality paragraphs have been edited and marked in blue along with the proficiency edits.

Sorry for the requested re-review so soon! I have added two sorcery spells, and I believe the number of points required is above the maximum for unreviewed proficiency changes. @apath
Proficiency changes marked in blue.

Hi there @The Unknown , due to a small backlog I'll be re-reviewing your character today!

Fortunately, no edits appear to be required, except for a minor lifestory change to add in a section of where he learned his newfound sorcery abilities. Approved! (But please do the aforementioned)
