Height: 7'6 Personality and Abilities How would your character respond to experiencing Fear? "I will stand my ground, and do what I can." Abelhard, after years of experience as a soldier, captain, and criminal, has come to have a great amount of resolve and experience within these situations. This isn't to say that he is immune to fear, which he isn't, it simply means that, combined with his pride and personality, he will refuse to back down. Latimer would rather stand upon his hill and die, than run from something that even has a shred of being defeated by the likes of him. How would your character respond to experiencing Stress? "I have broken many obstacles before. This shall be the same." Abelhard, as one who has clawed his way from the dirt to aristocracy, has never been one to back down. In response to stress Abel tries to solve the problem, at hand, through any means possible. A stoic, heavy handed, brutish approach. If it can't be solved, he tends to lapse into his old sins and vices, drinking and indulging in alcohol as he grows more and more desperate to break the opposition to his dreams at hand. How would your character express feeling Happy? "I will never be content until my plans are finished. However, once that happens? Its time to hit the lads for a night on the town." Abelhard, though rarely content and feeling happy, laxens up his strict standards for himself, choosing to indulge himself by taking part in materialistic pleasure and often putting his work on hold to socialize with comrades and associates. How does your character view Law and Authorities? "The common man is a savage, Gochni. Hellaria must be united under an iron fist to survive." Abelhard is a strict, tyrannical man who believes in the 'might is right' philosophy. To him, those below the law must follow it, or else the society which everyone lives in, will fall to pieces through wear and tear. It must be enforced, at all costs. How does your character feel about Races other than their own? "I believe in merit, but savages must be put to heel." Abelhard believes merit matters over someone’s blood. And while he recognizes that certain races are more predisposed to certain beliefs, achievements, and behaviors, he will always judge people based upon their own merit and achievements in life. However, in his eyes, certain races are savages and heathens, and must be forcefully civilized. How does your character feel about Religion for themselves, and other faiths? "Unionism is the great unifier of Ailor, and should be treated as such." Abelhard is devoted to the Unionist faith with a few unconventional beliefs, because of his own personal situation in the world. However, he is well versed in the philosophy of the faith and proselytizes it to those in the world at any chance he can get. How does your character feel about the Arcane and Magical in the world? "Aberrancy makes people feel special. They think they are different from their fellow man. They degrade the very moral fabric of society around us simply by existing." Abelhard, as a dimenthist exposed to the theories of dragon worshippers, believes that the arcane should be burned away from this world for the self preservation of all life in Aloria. However, due to experiences with aberrants, this distaste even extends to primal aberrants to a lesser extent, barring Url. How does your character feel towards their family? "I do not love my children, but I wish to prop them up to succeed." Abelhard has few ties to his ancestors, but has distant ties to his surviving sons and daughters, most of them having established a ‘you are not my family, but my tools' relationship. Thus, it is less of a familial bond, and more an agreement to help each other out in exchange for the mutual betterment of the empire and each other. What is your character's biggest insecurity? "I want to be the one who overcame it all. But- What if there is something I can't overcome?.." Abelhard's desire to bend the world with an indomitable will is something that has manifested it time and time again, whether physical or mental. However, this also leads him to fear the day that sheer will alone won't win the battle, and he simply cannot win the fight. Of course, this doesn't apply to things such as physical combat, but moreso politics and greater threats. This insecurity only manifests itself when things reach greater scales. What is your character the most proud of about themselves? "I have become an embodiment and bastion of utter mental strength. There is pride to have in that." Abelhard is most proud of how far he has come, despite the obstacles thrown against him. He has spent decades fighting, scraping, and clawing his way through life, hacking away at any chance he had, to consolidate his own power and feed an ever increasing need to prove himself worthy to himself. He believes this is something to have pride in. What motivates your character to move forward and better their life? "I want to be the image of victory! I will break the boundaries!" Abelhard's current desire is to do what he can to help the world around him, and keep stability in his lands. He has mellowed out, and is mostly content with his position in life, but not content with the state of the world around himself. What is your character's biggest fear? "..." Latimer's greatest fear is everything he has worked for, falling apart for a second time. Instilled in him by his failure to protect his closest friends, and their subsequent disappearances, he grows increasingly paranoid about everything he has worked for slipping from his grasp in an instant due to one small slip up or lowering of his guard. Life Story Birth Ulba'lley Quoatol was born within the Ularen plains during 229 AC, to a pair of physically robust parents named Ungley Quoatol and Serlay'ufol Embra. This was, for the most part, an uneventful period ranging from 229 AC to 234 AC, where Ulba'lley did nothing but the basics of toddlerdom. Childhood In 235 AC, Ulba'lley began to learn the specifics of Plains Elven and Common, from both his parents and Qússrakón Ailor in his tribedom. In conjunction with his learning of language, Ulba'lley learned various lifeskills from those in the tribe, such as how to dry meat, a few glimpses of combat, and his first steps in taking care of steeds and mounts, as is custom with the Avanthar. Unfortunately, in 239 AC, Ulba'lley bore witness to a diplomatic envoy from the Royal encampment. Nothing particularly ill happened here, but a good natured spar between a guard for the Royal Encampment, and one of the warriors of the tribe reminded all present that the Royal Encampment were in power for a reason. This began a long chain of events which would effect Ulba'lley's world view for decades. Otherwise, nothing too interesting occurred during this time, and it was a typical Avanthar's childhood. Adolescence Ulba'lley began his training at the young age of ten, learning how to properly maneuver a horse in combat, use a spear, and in stead of axes, his fists due to his Caste. This produced an unorthodox style of combat in comparison to the other Avanthar within his tribe, where the spear was used to deal damage from afar, and suddenly dropping it to switch to melee should they get too close. Ulba'lley participated within a few raids on Ailor and Orc encampments during 245 AC, most of which he only observed with the rest of the greenhorns of the tribe. However, at the age of 246 AC, he'd participate in his first raid to disastrous consequence. A particularly clever Orcish Warlord had been expecting this, and flanked the Avanthar Horselords as they began to engage. This worked to devastating consequence, and Ulba'lley was captured and enslaved. During this enslavement, Ulba'lley was worked to the bone, always hopeful that the tribe which he was a part of would come to his rescue. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and he escaped during 247 with the help of a few of those originally captured. This lead to a resentment of both Orcs and the Avanthar, due to a perceived lack of care for those they had lost, when in reality, the Tribe had certainly tried their hardest. After this escape, Ulba'lley wandered the plains for over a month, almost dying on a few occasions due to exposure, thirst, or roving bands of Orcs or Ailor. Fortunately, he wandered into an Ailor settlement, and after he told his story and perceived betrayal, he was not killed, but given some food and a map, and sent off to Lenna Bas. During this trip, he renamed himself to Argylwyd Lladron, to better fit in. Early Adulthood During 249 AC, Argylwyd enrolled himself into a naval Academy in Lenna Bas after garnering favor with a local band of privateers for his competency at leading their marines into battle on the high seas. This furthered his education in the field of frontline command, but little did they Admiral know, he had been stealing books on Admirality for his own use, and paying out of pocket to attend seminars for the teachings of both courses. During this period, Argylwyd learned Daendroquin and the Etosian Dialect. In six years, 255 AC, Argylwyd graduated from the academy without much fanfare, going back to work with the privateers. Unfortunately, due to the events within his life, Argylwyd had subscribed to the notion of Might makes Right within the world, and waited for an opportune moment to lead a mutiny against the current Admiral. This opportunity came in 256 AC, when the Admiral flogged a particularly well liked petty officer over minor infractions. With enough fanning of the flames, Argylwyd spearheaded a movement to lynch the current Admiral, and maroon almost all of his inner circle. With this, the Privateer fleet continued on with business as usual. Late Adulthood During this time Argylwyd travelled to the Archipelago, having various children. In 268 AC, Argylwyd retired from the fleet, and moved to the Crown City. During this time, Argylwyd fell in line with a band of brigands in the Sewers known as the Red Leopards, causing a stir for many years, under the Alias of Rokh Pokka. Argylwyd lived life as a criminal for years, doing as he pleased, and ultimately, never getting caught despite being infamous for a period of a year during 306 AC. Immediately after the year of 306 AC, Argylwyd vanished off the face of Aloria out of fear of Guard Retribution, the declining power of the Red Leopards, and even because of the news of the Imperial Dragon's decimation of the Royal Encampment. He'd only reemerge from hiding in 307 AC, almost a year later. In 307 AC, Argylwyd became a Royal Guard for House Howlester. This period became a turning point in Argylwyd's life as he converted to Unionism, met Aleck Dunmore, and changed his name to Abelhard Latimer and became an aristocrat. Abelhard's disdain for the Avanthar culture has began to wane, and Abelhard's interest in Genos has began to influence his scholarly pursuits.
