(OOC: Postings of copies of a printed pamphlet were left around centers of activity, with some being handed by clearly paid, bored looking individuals)

To the people of Regalia,----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The paper you are reading currently is not necessarily an issue of some sort of paper to be said. But rather the musings of a physician, and their own opinions on the realities of the city, and perhaps even life itself. The pamphlets and papers of "A Physician's Thoughts" will not be a reoccurring title with strict schedules to keep satisfying readers. It is instead, the writing of a message. Messages often seen in this city are either advertisements from shopkeepers or the invaluable holy works of the Unionist leaders of Regalia. I have seen this and wished to give another perspective. In this manner, this piece and others to follow will be published and distributed during times when I view it is necessary for information to be known on topics such as the well-being of individuals, disease, crisis, and other discussions under a similar subject matter.
And such a crisis I have witnessed, that I have been moved to create such a message.
Many of us know the horrors of plagues and disease upon individuals. The effects not only sow fear into the populace but have the ability to destroy families and uproot stable communities. The fear and sickness combined with the pain of having to watch loved ones slowly waste away, without comfort, as disease forces ill ones to separate from those who bring them the most peace. That is the nature of a disease. A disease does not hold anything of value. A disease does not bring joy or have a conscious or empathy. A plague is a disease in which its power and hunger grow so powerful, that it brings down entire populations and kills without mercy, or hold any thought at all. Exists only hunger, and destruction. No one would feel any guilt from killing a beast that sweeps through destroying all in its way, or a parasite, slowly leeching the strength and joy from families and communities.
However, diseases and plagues are known. All races hate them. So societies work to end them, build defenses, build weapons, and study, so that they are able to defeat the enemies of all life. Unionism and its followers have worked to find cures, and give generously to those suffering from the wrath of such monsters.
But strangely, one disease is left untouched, accepted even. It kills thousands, it threatens elders, and infects all. For Ailor, the disease is quicker and stronger. For most of the races, they are simply infected longer. But, the results are the same. All infected succumb to its grip.
The disease of speaking of is an ancient one. What is it?
It is the disease forced onto us by birth and the touch of time: Death by age.
Age and death tricks souls by first giving them the strength of youth, but soon after pulls their health away from them. Draining energy, dulling minds, and even the greatest of minds and the mightiest of warriors all fall to it. It tortures those infected by sending outbursts of pain, the inability to move as quickly as they once did, but still full of memories of youthful vigor.
I am not here to insinuate that we should end death. We all know that the Everwatcher will one day reverse those who have succumbed to it. But age is not a peaceful death like its lies make you believe it is. No. For Ailor, unlike even the Sihai or Songaskia, we do not hold the same ability to live a life as long when infected. For flora and the fauna of this world, we may see it to be natural. But we cannot keep this belief that age and death are somehow condonable for sapient beings. Witness the grief of ones who suffer from it. Witness the number of inventors and brilliant minds no longer present due to its effects. And to the people of races who may not hold the same worries as Ailor, for most of you, age will still come. Select from a few races who are immune to such a disease. Age and death never leaves, it only waits until the time comes.
But we can take the steps to break the shackles of this disease so that it no longer holds power over us.
Imagine a world without such a parasite. Imagine a world where fathers can witness more generations of their lineage, to see more of the fruits of their work. Imagine the progress and advancement that may be accomplished. If we Ailor and other races of similar lifespans can accomplish what we have now underneath the hand of such a monster. Take a moment and imagine what we may be able to do with longer times, and with the minds of brilliance left to act longer, without the leech of death.
But to accomplish such a future, we must act now. It may not be our generation who will be able to witness such a momentous defeat of a creature, but the faster we act, the quicker it will come for the people of that time.
Age is a disease. And it is time for us to view it so.
