A splash rung out in the early morning mist, birds softly chirping as the grass was still wet with morning dew. An arm suddenly hooked back in the mist, only to disappear again as it was flung forward. A small plop was heard as the lure of a fishing rod landed in the water. The person holding it let out a grunt, as she leaned back in the grass around the edge of the pond. It was clear she was a Northerner, the skin on her arms and legs covered with tattoos, as well as her face. Her hair hung just below her ears, her bangs pinned back with a silver clip. Her brilliant blue eyes watched the water, but she wasn't paying attention to fishing at all. You could tell because she had her feet in the water swinging them around from time to time surely scaring off the fish that made the pond their home. The white shirt she was wearing fit loosely over her ripped body, and her pants were rolled up so they wouldn't get wet. The shirt's sleeves were rolled up to expose her tattooed arms.

'Why was I so stupid..'

Thoughts churned through her head as she sat there. She welcomed the cool air of the morning as she never really had a liking for warm weather. She tugged the fishing rod string back in with a soft sigh. She tossed it back out after a bit and one might notice that she didn't even have bait on the end of the line. The lure plopped back into the water, sending ripples along the pond as it did. Avilda stared at it, her head almost moving with the bobbing.
"Are you just going to sit out here and mope around for the rest of your life?" A gruff voice spoke in Als-Tunge from behind her.
"I might." She replied stubbornly as the giant Northern man stand down with a thump next to her.
"Sweetheart," he muttered as he pulled her to his side, covering the other side of her body with the bearskin cloak he was wearing. She let him, grumpily resting herself on her father's side, as he glanced out to her lure.
"I know that you made a mistake, but you have to pick yourself back up and try again. I'm not letting you waste your life and your training here." He muttered to her as he gently took the fishing rod from her starting to reel in the line. Avilda let him, her eyes wandering up to his face. He turned away from her shortly to put away the fishing rod before he catches her look. His dark blue eyes were filled with warmth and love for his only child. The dark blue tattoos on his face matched the color of hers. His hand drifted up and cupped her cheek gently stroking it with his thumb.
"I don't expect you to repeat what happened, but I need you to try and do something again. We can take baby steps if we have to. Start with hunting, then maybe some sparing to keep you fit and trained. Then maybe we can get you a job?" He asked her hopefully. He sounded like he had already asked her the question many times. Avilda moved her face from his grip and stared back at the water not saying anything. Her father's hopeful face fell a little, he pulled her a little closer. They sat in silence for a while, listening to the water and the breeze. The sun was slowly raising now, casting a soft glow through the mist. Without any words spoken, Avilda went to stand up going to trudge back to the little cottage on the hill next to the pond. Her father picked up the fishing rod and went after her, moving a bit slower than his daughter. Avilda reached the cottage and opened the door, she was met by her mother who tossed a hopeful glance at her father who just shook his head. Her mother turned back to her and gave her a sad smile as she went to attempt to help her daughter into the kitchen for breakfast. Avilda gently pushed her hand to the side and went to sit down herself. Her father shook his head resting a hand on his wife's shoulder before going to sit down as well. The family shared a silent breakfast. After breakfast Avilda stood again making her way over to her room in silence, closing the door. Her parents shared concerned looks as they both pondered the question.

What had happened to Avilda while she was in Regalia?
