Now, many of us have heard people talk about how they want heavy armor to weigh you down. While I like the idea of leather armor having a use, and diamond armor being needed, the idea of slowness for heavy armor never seems to get too far. I have had an idea for a little while. It's inspired a bit by the Elder Scrolls.

Many of us have played or watched someone play Skyrim. And one thing I like about it is that light armor isn't definitively worse then heavy armor. There is a reason for this. Sneaking.

An archer or a thief wearing heavy armor makes no sense. They are a stealth class. They should be quiet. In real life, iron armor is loud. If you are strong enough, you can run just fine. But there is no way in Void you can sneak in it. Don't even try.

The point I am trying to make here is this. What if when you wore iron, diamond, gold, or chainmail armor, you made noise?

Now, I know what you are thinking. "It would be annoying." However, with the way Mine craft is, you can set volume. It could be the sound used for when you saddle up a horse. It would be quiet enough that with a few things going on, it would be very hard to hear. A sound you would need to listen for.

Chain mail would be the quietest, but somewhat frequent. Iron would be louder, but not as frequent. Gold would be medium for both. Diamond, to balance it, would be loud and frequent. Now, when I say pound, I don't mean like a pig squealing in your ear. I mean loud as in a bit easier to hear. And by frequent, I mean that it would happen every few steps, not every step you take. Sneaking would decrease the frequency a little.

This would encourage stealth a little bit more when raiding. Yeah, when you are in the heat of battle, stealth doesn't matter. If you are trying to get a way in there, you want to go unnoticed.

Nobody uses leather armor on this server. Nobody. There will be a reason to now. Leather would make little to no noise. You would be silent. Silent but deadly.

The effects of each piece of armor would add up. Don't just expect to wear all diamond except iron boots. You will still make noise. It will also encourage mixing and matching to find what suits you.

Also, I will not be able to respond until next week. I will get to your comments ASAP. Until I come back, have a very, /very/ Massive week!

Huh, this actually sounds very interesting. Not sure what the usefulness of sneaking in pvp is anymore, though.

Ehh. Guards? Brute Squad? The Radiant Gauntlet (when it was still a thing)? Many roleplayers and guilds use leather armor.

Also, I don't think anyone would wear leather armor only to make no sound. And if you're able to lower the volume of armor, probably everyone would make it less noisy or disable it completely. And then why would anyone wear leather armor when the majority of people can't hear the noise anyway, because they disabled it? Even if you manage to sneak up on someone with leather armor, you would not really have a big advantage. You might only make 2 or 3 hits before the other person in full god armor realizes you and kills you quickly. And it takes a whole lot of hits to take someone down who has full god armor, even with god weapons.

Regarding the volume thing, I don't believe it would be possible for a plugin to add an option to lower the volume of one specific sound. You would need to download an optional mod to get this option then. (like MPM)

All in all, this would just be a waste of time and most people would not appreciate it anyway. I don't want to be a dream crusher though, but I think most of us appreciate that you share so many ideas with us.

Noone will be listening for this. So it would have no effect.

In a raid sort of sense, I don't think this would really work out…
In RP however?
Shut up and take my regals for this idea RP wise, because this would make RP thieving SO much more realistic and interesting!

Nothing in rp is realistic to begin with. ^

I like the idea of the speed change tho. Movement impairment based on the quality gear you use could make a big change. No one will wear heavily enchanted diamond armor of they like to be able to jump across a questionable jump, sprint, jog, or even have much vertical to their jump. I think for mobility (kiting purposes) this could be HUGE for pvp. I don't care how tough you are, if you are getting kited hard by someone who can actually move, jump, and shoot you with a god bow, you will either cease and desist, rethink your options, or die.

A good way to make leather armor useful is to make it so you do more damage with bows or something like that while wearing a full suit of it. You take like a bajillion times more damage, but you dish out a lot more. I just don't think sneaking around/stealth is ever really used constructively in PvP, and I never have the MC sound on anyways
