Now, many of us have heard people talk about how they want heavy armor to weigh you down. While I like the idea of leather armor having a use, and diamond armor being needed, the idea of slowness for heavy armor never seems to get too far. I have had an idea for a little while. It's inspired a bit by the Elder Scrolls.
Many of us have played or watched someone play Skyrim. And one thing I like about it is that light armor isn't definitively worse then heavy armor. There is a reason for this. Sneaking.
An archer or a thief wearing heavy armor makes no sense. They are a stealth class. They should be quiet. In real life, iron armor is loud. If you are strong enough, you can run just fine. But there is no way in Void you can sneak in it. Don't even try.
The point I am trying to make here is this. What if when you wore iron, diamond, gold, or chainmail armor, you made noise?
Now, I know what you are thinking. "It would be annoying." However, with the way Mine craft is, you can set volume. It could be the sound used for when you saddle up a horse. It would be quiet enough that with a few things going on, it would be very hard to hear. A sound you would need to listen for.
Chain mail would be the quietest, but somewhat frequent. Iron would be louder, but not as frequent. Gold would be medium for both. Diamond, to balance it, would be loud and frequent. Now, when I say pound, I don't mean like a pig squealing in your ear. I mean loud as in a bit easier to hear. And by frequent, I mean that it would happen every few steps, not every step you take. Sneaking would decrease the frequency a little.
This would encourage stealth a little bit more when raiding. Yeah, when you are in the heat of battle, stealth doesn't matter. If you are trying to get a way in there, you want to go unnoticed.
Nobody uses leather armor on this server. Nobody. There will be a reason to now. Leather would make little to no noise. You would be silent. Silent but deadly.
The effects of each piece of armor would add up. Don't just expect to wear all diamond except iron boots. You will still make noise. It will also encourage mixing and matching to find what suits you.
Also, I will not be able to respond until next week. I will get to your comments ASAP. Until I come back, have a very, /very/ Massive week!
