The two children were spoiled with love and affection from their unwed parents, their father taking a particular liking to Victane while their mother took to Victoria. However, when the children were at the age of two, Reidane disappeared abruptly, leaving behind his young children and their mother on their own. This did not have much effect on Victane’s childhood, as he could barely recall what his father was like as he grew older. In his youth, Victane developed a stutter that prevented him from conversing much with anyone besides his mother and sister. Without a second pair of hands in the household, Bella de Piedmont heavily relied on her brother, Maximilien, and his family for support while she worked during the day. Although Victane and his sister were under the care of their uncle and aunt’s care for the majority of the time, Victane felt that they still lacked a much needed parental figure. He was quick to realize that if someone was going to take care of him, it would be himself. Victane became an efficient young man and a quick learner, catching on to the language his cousins spoke frequently, Alt-Regalian, and later developing a deep passion for music, particularly strings. He brought this up to his uncle, who then purchased him a specially crafted violin, which Victane eagerly took up, and thus began his passion for music. On his tenth birthday he was sent off to Osteiermark to learn next to his other cousins for a few years about how to handle business and to learn how to fight for himself by his uncle, Pierre. Victane was often picked on by his relatives for his speech impediment, particularly his sister and female cousins, seldom for his cousin, Anne, who he rarely saw. While Victoria did not hesitate to pester her brother, she frequently stood up for him against their cousins, most frequently Violetta, though this did not mean that she was as kind behind closed doors. Victoria often instigated arguments and fights with Victane, who, in return, would attempt to negotiate and diffuse the situations- which was only successful half of the time. ∘› When Victane was thirteen years of age, he grew ill with a terrible fever. As no one in his family knew how to heal him, he was sent to the town medic. The boy would spend a week here, where he’d witness many things throughout his recovery. Some people would come in having been impaled, others inflicted with a disease, some even required surgery. While the sights were enough to make anyone’s stomach churn, Victane was fascinated by the possibility of saving a human life through the means of science. Over the next couple of years, Victane would often volunteer to help the town’s medic, acting as a sort of apprentice. His uncle, however, began to see this as an unfit and improper education, and decided to send him off to the Halctus Academy to study medicine. While Victane excelled in almost every subject, he found a particular interest in arcanology, the process of curing vampires and werebeasts. The professor of the subject took a liking to him, taking him under his wing and encouraging his interest on the topic. While under the instruction of his professor, both Victane’s grades and confidence improved, and he found himself becoming more outgoing around his peers. However, he was quick to realize that not many others were interested in arcanology in the way that he was. In fact, many people retracted at the subject, often giving him an odd look before walking away. As a result, Victane decided he would simply keep his mouth closed in social situations. ∘› He continued his studies quietly for the next few years until he was twenty-three, and he received a letter from his relatives in the City of Regalia, requesting he join them after the passing of his uncle. In Regalia, Victane found it difficult to adjust to the fast paced social scene of the city. He often kept to himself, remaining as a bystander rather than getting involved in any social affairs.
