    LIFE STORY
    • Ælfred was born on November 10th 272 A.C in the rural town of Æylesburgh along the provincial borders of Angelland and Hartenland to Anglian parents, Æthelred and Wynflaed Tharn.
    • He was a sickly and weak child, and was raised on the family farmstead as the youngest son, and sixth of eight children.
    • His childhood was carefree as he played with his siblings and the family’s Anglian Shepherds, and attended the mandatory Anglian education system from five until seven.
    • From eight to fourteen Ælfred worked on the family farm, and over time his father accumulated a large amount of the farmland surrounding Æylesburgh through marrying off his daughters and performing dirty deeds.
    • After the family accrued relative wealth, Ælfred was permitted to go in 286 A.C to join the Regalian Diplomatic Academy to study diplomacy, where he spent time travelling the world and working as a secretary in several foregin embassies.
    • Upon return he discovered that one of his brother’s died in the Chrysant War, and soon after another brother and a sister died from an illness which he simply watched take them from the world.
    • Feeling guilty he couldn’t prevent their deaths, Ælfred wanted to learn the art of healing and was allowed once more by his parents to travel to Vultaro to enroll in the Regalian Ecological Academy in 289 A.C, where he spent five years becoming an adept healer.
    • When he came back from the south, this time the scene in Æylesburgh was vastly different, as his mother had left to become a Silent Sister and his last brother had fled his father’s aggression and beatings, for he had become a bitter and tormented man after his mother left accusing him of being a sinner for how he had gained his extensive farmlands.
    • After spending some time tending to his father who was growing weaker, he eventually passed away after suffering a heart attack in his sleep, and left his lands and wealth to Ælfred. Having heard of how his father lied and cheated to gain lands, he felt he had left the world with sins unatoned for, and so gave stewardship of his new lands to his eldest sister while he went to become a Celate.
    • He joined the Divine College of Divinity in 295 A.C and stayed for eight years until 303 A.C when he became ordained and was named the successor to the Celacy of Æylesburgh when the elderly priest, Ecgberht, passed away.
    • When he returned he helped Ecgberht in his final months in Aloria before he died of old age, and Ælfred assumed the position of Celate of Æylesburgh.
    • After surviving the Anahera Dictatorship, Anglian Mist Crisis and the Veer Wars which plagued Anglia, he set off to the Holy City of Regalia in the hope to further seek penance for his father’s sins and further Ailorkind along the Great Way.
    LIFE CHRONICLES
Ælfred was born during the midst of the annual Everwatcher Festival in the year 272 A.C within the confines of his family’s farmstead near the quaint rural town of Æylesburgh, located along the provincial borders of Angelland and Hartenland. He was conceived and raised by Axelland Anglian parents, named Æthelred and Wynflaed Tharn, and his parents were relatively wealthy agricultural landowners, who held the legal rights to several fields and granaries within the surrounding lands of Æylesburgh at the time of his birth. They brought in their wealth through a mix of arable and pastoral farming and embarked upon monthly ventures to major urban cities in Hartenland, such as Axenfoord, and along the Angelland coast to the west, where they would sell their produce to merchants to take overseas. Ælfred himself was a sickly child and weak from the offset, clearly never going to grow into a strong, physical specimen nor muster any significant strength to command any authority.

Throughout his infancy, Ælfred endured a carefree upbringing, and at the time was the youngest of five older siblings, three brothers and two sisters, and would go on to be the third-youngest of eight, with a further two younger sisters born after himself. During his first few years in Aloria, he played daily with his siblings and the domestic animals on the farmstead, as the family acquired a new Anglian Shepherd every time a new child was born. He developed a love for animals from this young age, especially for canines and would grow to become a keen horse-rider. Meanwhile his parents tended to their fields and managed their lands, with several peasants and serfs helping till and plant the fields and helped herd and rear the cattle throughout the seasons. At the age of five, Ælfred was enrolled into the mandatory Anglian schooling system, where he spent two years learning basic social skills and learning of life on the farm. However, unlike most he was able to achieve a relative level of literacy by the end of this education, and made quick sense of the letters and numbers in his head and thus although was never going to be physically strong the boy displayed an aptitude for someone who would develop a strong mental fortitude in his adulthood. Despite this, at eight he began helping at his parents’ farmstead, spending his days struggling to plough the fields of wheat, barley and rye and helped as best he could in the herding and feeding of livestock.

Up until this point, his father, Æthelred, along with his two eldest brothers, Æthelwulf and Eadred, had begun working on how to expand the family's lands. They had already married off Ælfred’s two older sisters, Ælswith and Mildrith, to the sons of nearby farmers, exchanging a flock of sheep for one and a herd of cattle for the other in order to gain several tens of acres of both fertile aboral land and green grass meadows for pastoral farming alike. However, this was not enough for his greedy and ambitious father and brothers, who now intended to bankrupt their biggest rival in the Æylesburgh region, a dogged and headstrong farmer named Wulfhere, who continued to refuse the marriage of one of his sons to one of Æthelred’s remaining daughters, for he was the current largest landowner in the region, and if he gave lands to Æthelred this would no longer have been the case. However, that did not stop them.

After weeks of public provocation and altercations in the rural town square, one night his brothers and father feigned injuries and demanded to bring Wulfhere and all his sons to trial for attacking them. Once the towns’ aldermen assembled they presided over the case with caution. The self-inflicted injuries caused to Æthelred and his sons and the public knowledge of their rivalry with Wulfhere were already convincing enough to believe an attack was possible. However, they were swayed beyond unreasonable doubt when they called forth and witnessed the burly and muscular statues of Wulfhere’s sons compared to Æthelred’s weaker and feeble looking sons, and they were satisfied that they had indeed attacked them. Thus, the aldermen held that in order to acquit themselves from imprisonment and confiscation of land, under the Anglian law of Graantel Wet, they were demanded to pay the body weight of each of the victims in milled type-0 flour, one time per person involved, and hence why they had claimed all the sons were involved as there were five of them in total. So now, Wulfhere despite his insistence and protestations was forced to pay each of Æthelred and his sons’ body weights, six times over to pay off the debt, leaving him with no crop yield for that year, and thus no tangible income to survive the winter months.

Their plan had worked to perfection, and now as Wulfhere needed coin and food beyond anything else he begrudgingly accepted an offer from Æthelred to purchase half of his lands for less than they were worth, for Wulfhere was desperate and did not wish to his family starve. Having seen off their biggest rival, by time he had reached fourteen, Ælfred’s father had beyond question become the largest agricultural landowner of the Æylesburgh region, and was now more wealthy than most of the townsfolk combined. Unlike most of his family however, Ælfred was not overly cunning or deceitful during his youth and instead had expressed a desire to become a learned man and to see the world of Aloria in all its splendor. He did not wish to live and die in the same place he was born and with the family’s new found wealth and accepting the wishes of their son, once reaching the age of fourteen his parents paid for him to be educated in the Regalian Diplomatic Academy in Anglia, so that he may achieve his desires. Thus for the following three winters, Ælfred studied diplomacy hands-on with both classroom theory learning, but also serving internships as a secretary to foregin diplomats and embassies across the known world. He would encounter the capitals and cultures of many nations during this time, from the Nelfin dominant jungles of Daendroc in the east, to the vast, barren deserts of Farah’deen ruled by the Songaskians in the west. After several years of study and first-hand experience, Ælfred returned to Anglia and graduated from the academy before returning home to Æylesburgh.

Upon returning to his family's land in Æylesburgh he was met with a starkly different picture than what he had left behind. The home in which he was raised had grown from a respectable, charming farmstead to a lordly timber greathall, with earthen walls surrounding an inner courtyard area, where a new stables had been erected and housed a string of Anglian Chestnut Dredgers. His father emerged from the hall in a fine woven shirt, new leather boots with a cowhide tunic and a sheepskin coat draped over his shoulders before embracing Ælfred on his return home before guiding him inside. When inside he was given food and drink and was greeted by his mother, Wynflaed, his youngest sister, Æthelflæd, who remained unmarried, and two of his brothers, Eadred, who had become frail and meek, and Leofric, who was born club-footed and was more of burden to his parents than a help. He learned over dinner that his eldest brother, Æthelwulf, had gone off to fight in the Chrysant War in 286 A.C, at the behest of his parents but nonetheless wanted to gain glory and reputation as a warrior, however they had been informed he had fallen in combat earlier that year in 289 A.C. Despite this, the family continued onwards and gained more land in the region, now owning some near eighty percent of the farmable land surrounding Æylesburgh after Æthelred married his third daughter, Gwyneth, to another local farmer for land.

Ælfred never had the intention of remaining for long in Æylesburgh, but spent a month or so helping out and taking advantage of the new stables to continue his love of horse-riding from his childhood, riding into the town centre and into the deep countryside of rural Angelland to take in the fresh air and feel the wind through his long, wavy hair. After around six weeks of being home, his brother, Eadred, and his sister, Æthelflæd, came down with a sickness that plagued the nearby regions. Both became extremely weak and developed sudden onsets of fever, headaches, and patches of swollen buboes blotted their skin, and despite hiring a reputable physician to care for them both, it was to no avail. Following several days of pain and agony both siblings died from their affliction and with no tangible skills other than speechcraft, writing and horse-riding, Ælfred felt guilty and as much use as a handbrake on a canoe as the situation unfolded. Because of this he decided he’d use his advanced education and literacy to his advantage to become a healer. Approving his decision, his parents funded and allowed him to venture to Vultaro to join the Regalian Ecological Academy to train as a doctor in 289 A.C.

During his first year at the academy, Ælfred learned the theory regarding the use of traditional treatments for wounds and ailments and was taught how to diagnose minor symptoms and prescribe the relevant treatments based on examining patients. The further two years expanded on this doctrine, becoming familiar with all mundane afflictions by heart and knowing the applicable cures to treat them, as well as understanding the performance of surgery and the anatomical makeup of several races in Aloria. Ælfred garnered a great understanding of the laws of medicine, becoming adept at his chosen doctrine and gained the prefix of Doctor upon his graduation in 292 A.C. He would remain at the academy for a further two years to further master and hone these skills, eventually departing Vultaro in 294 A.C at the age of twenty-two and returned to Æylesburgh for the second time to preside over his family and the afflicted in his hometown.

Ælfred rode to his family's hall in Æylesburgh later that year, but was not greeted this time and found it empty of people, but still the hearth was roaring and food had been prepared in a cast-iron cauldron pot. He waited a while and eventually his father, now grey-haired and rickety, stumbled into the hall and stared at Ælfred in sheer disbelief. Serving up food to both his father and himself he inquired as to the whereabouts of his mother and brother, but only a look of emptiness and remorse met his gaze from his father’s eyes, who appeared truly beaten and on death's doorstep. Æthelred told the tale of how not long after Ælfred had departed to Vultaro his parents began to bicker, and that bickering slowly became violent arguments over how they had acquired the land all those years ago. His mother, Wynflaed, had vehemently condemned his father and said that the Evertwatcher now punished him for those actions he’d taken against Wulfhere and had taken the two sons involved in it as a lesson, and now his daughter as further collateral for his sins. Some few weeks later, his mother had requested to be taken into the church and joined the female caste of priests, known as the Silent Sisters, where she vowed to atone for the sins of her husband and children. Left grieve-stricken and heart-broken, Æthelred had become a violent and bitter man, and in his twisted torment had lashed out as his only remaining child at the time, Ælfred’s brother Leofric, who he saw as no heir to inherit the farmlands for he was dimwitted and unable to work the fields due to his clubbed-foot. In this mist of self-suffering, Æthelred beat Leofric until the point where his son fled Æylesburgh as best he could on horseback and to this day knowledge of his whereabouts is unbeknownst to Ælfred, though he hopes he lives and is well for he was his closest sibling in childhood.

Taking pity upon him, Ælfred remained with him for a few months, caring for him as best he could despite his now hatred towards him for his actions, and as his father’s physical and mental health rapidly deteriorated, Æthelred was contempt that he would leave the world in the solace that his only surviving son to his knowledge would be a worthy successor, despite Ælfred being frail and weak himself. During these strenuous times, Ælfred’s mental fortitude was tested and pushed to its limits, calling upon the help of the elderly and wise Celate of Æylesburgh, named Ecgberht, who provided council and reassured Ælfred that a son does not carry the sins of his father and that they are judged individually upon death by the Everwatcher. Confided by the priest, Ælfred got through the final days of his father’s life and with his dying breath left all his lands and wealth to Ælfred in the hope he would one day control all the lands of Æylesburgh. But Ælfred was not a homely man and his ambitions lay outside of Æylesburgh.

In 295 A.C, believing his father was taken from the world with unatoned sins and despite the assurances from the Celate Ecgberht, Ælfred would remain the owner of the lands of his father but left the stewardship and the hospitality of its great hall to his eldest sister, Ælswith, and her husband, Eardwulf. Burying the majority of his father’s wealth in a secret location as a future assurance and taking with him a Chestnut Dredger and an Anglian Shepherd from the farmstead, he set off to inform the Celate Ecgberht in the Æylesburgh church that he intended to join the clergy and was to make his way to attend the Divine College of Divinity as penance and make amends for his families sins and evil deeds throughout their lives. With the blessing of Ecgberht and with his two animal companions, Ælfred made haste to the coast of Angelland and boarded a ship to the southern region and religious heartland of Regalia, Basta.

In late 295 A.C in his early twenties and fully-grown man, Ælfred arrived at Basta later in life than most who pursued the path of a Celate, but was welcomed nonetheless for he was a devout Unionist and a learned individual. He attended the Divine College to become a priest but Basta was also home to colleges and academies for other Unionist orders, such as the Villiers-Eclaire knights, and so often found himself speaking with warriors as well as Celates and used his knowledge of medicine to help the knights when they sustained wounds and injuries. Educationally, Ælfred spent his time at seminary studying his religion fervently, and taking secondary classes to supplement it by excelling in languages and writing courses for he was already literate and his time travelling the world as an emissary allowed him a basic grasp of foregin languages prior to joining the college. He partook in daily prayers and theology lessons, though his prayers were often done in private for the faith doesn’t require mass sermons nor communal worship and so he took his religion personally. Enlightened and having memorised the holy scriptures, he continued along his propagation towards ordainship and his Sanktism of Celacy by beginning to perform priestly duties, notably that of relieving and hearing to those on Basta who sort him out, of whom that was mainly Villiers knights who he had healed during his time of study on the island and his extraverted nature meant he became close friends with several of them and they sort him out for personal spiritual guidance and philosophical advice. After eight years on Basta, Ælfred underwent his Sanktism of Celacy, whereby he recited the opening passage of The Creed and after reciting prayer to God Emperor Juvin for guidance in his future Celate’s duties, an Arch-Celate confirmed his entrance into the Unionist priesthood and his name was entered into the Celacy Codices officially recognising him as a Celate in the winter of 303 A.C.

Following his ordainship, Ælfred was going to be assigned to the Celacy of Reigneux in Pays d’Or however somewhat unorthodoxly asked the Arch-Celate about the health of the Celate Ecgberht in Æylesburgh and before the seal was placed on his assignment he was instead named successor to the Celacy of Æylesburgh upon the death of Ecgberht, and was sent on his way to Anglia to check on his old acquaintance. At thirty-one years of age, Ælfred had come back to Æylesburgh for the third time, but almost immediately found that the townsfolk of the area were called to arms to fight for Reginald V Kade-Schwarz in open rebellion against the Anahera Dictatorship following the execution of the chancellor Morirarty Kade. As loyal subjects of the royal House of Kade, the men and boys of Æylesburgh went off to war and Ælfred in his new Celate’s duties assisted Celate Ecgberht in providing religious guidance and praying with the women, children and elderly for the safe return of the town's men. However, not long after news reached that the Kade-loyalist forces were decimated and forced to retreat to the swamplands in Southern Anglia, where they eventually returned in January of 304 A.C, with many deceased in the melee.

After the time of conflict, in early 304 A.C the Celate Ecgberht passed away from old age and word was sent to Basta to inform them of the Celate’s passing and Ælfred assumed his position as Celate of Æylesburgh and took lodgings in the town church. He performed his priestly duties with the utmost of his abilities, taking hearings, relieving and blessings over the years and taking those in his Celacy on pilgrimages to undergo Cloister Trials at the Arch-Temples in Axenfoord, where he guided them through to the Faith Chambers of the God Emperors and Empresses. Following several years in his Celacy, Ælfred was contempt with life and believed he was atoning for his family’s sins and that he was helping progress Ailorkind along the Great Way. That was until in late 306 A.C when the Anglian Mist Crisis descended on the region. His only recollection of the event was the air becoming consumed with darkness and then suddenly a green beam of energy shot through the sky and life soon returned to normal. He believed it was a test from the Everwatcher which they had passed, and after remaining out of the Veer Wars of 307 A.C, Ælfred eventually decided in 308 A.C to venture out of his Celacy and set off to the Holy City of Regalia where he hoped to continue atoning for the sins of his father and brothers by serving the Everwatcher and guiding Ailorkind along the Great Way.

    • Requesting a complete removal of this. You can consider replacing it with Sanguiphobia. It works under the context of having a certain weakness from birth, and would not impede any of the healing RP you intend to do on this character. Crohn's Disease's many toilet-related intricacies cannot be roleplayed out and are immensely inappropriate on server.
