As an infant, Astrid was raised through the inevitable hardships of a swampland region--experiencing lack of formal education, famine, and harsh weather. Despite this, she was a bright and optimistic girl, and learned to navigate the rocky region alongside her older brother early on. With no established schools, the majority of her education came in the form of practical skills from her Mother and Father’s professions. Her family were staunch Conservative Unionists, and she and her siblings were raised as such. • AdolescenceAs Astrid bloomed into her early teens she took upon the role of a forager-gatherer to assist her family, meanwhile her elder brother enrolled in the School of Darkwald nearby. Her brother’s Squireship became a point of contention within the family home, with Astrid subject to hearing about the terrible abberrants he would soon hunt. While she listened intently, the young girl silently questioned the morality behind the death and dissent her brother caused. When her brother departed at age 16, she was left with a brewing discontentment. • Early AdulthoodAt the age of 19, Astrid became enamored with a Leutz-Vixe Fencer from a neighboring town--to which her parents strongly disapproved. Astrid (having grown irritated by the dreary landscapes of Osteiermark) decided henceforth to elope with her lover in secret. Upon her 21st birthday, she left a heartfelt letter to her family and snuck away to marry her lover in Pays-Sud, hoping that the lavish lifestyles of the Ithanians would better suit her. Upon reaching Pays-Sud (and promptly blowing their cash on a luxurious honeymoon), the newly-weds found themselves gravely out of pocket. They rented a small apartment, and supported themselves on the regals that her husband made tutoring Leutz-Vixe Fencing. Having previously led a modest life, the two were poor, but happy for quite a few years, birthing a single child— a daughter named Elaine. • Mid-AdulthoodDuring their marriage, Astrid’s husband revealed to her that he had begun learning sorcery in secret. While initially shocked due to her childhood teachings, she quickly came to accept this as a gift of his devout Unionist faith—similar to her own Union Blessings. Though she could not learn sorcery herself, she supported him wholeheartedly. At the age of 38, Astrid’s husband found himself at the end of an honor conflict with a local Lord. Challenged to a swordfight--with no experience beyond fencing--the duel ended in the death of her one true love. Having no job of her own and limited funds, Astrid was hence unable to care for her growing daughter, and was forced to place her in an orphanage. In all her grief, the woman returned to a simpler life of hard religious study, praying for answers and consolation. It wasn't long before she discovered the Nonnatean Sect of Unionism--a denomination which strongly appealed to her beliefs. • Late AdulthoodWith no money and few possessions left, Astrid travelled north to the White Chapel of Nonnatea in Regalia and pleaded for acceptance. Despite her mature age, she was accepted easily due to her prior Arcanology knowledge and lifelong devotion to the Faith. She renounced her previous name, taking the surname Blanchet—”pure white”, and vowed to devote the rest of her life to furthering the Great Way. Blissfully, Astrid found that the Nonnatean Church provided her with many of the answers she had long desired, as well as a feeling of safety and community. She embraced this lifestyle and remained in the monastery for more than 10 years, learning her rites and taking jobs ranging from a forager to a mortician to keep the church running. It was 310AC when Astrid Blanchet--now Mother Astrid--found herself longing for the thrill of exploration once more (albeit at a gentler pace). With good faith, she was permitted to leave the monastery as a missionary and moved to the Crown City of Regalia, where she now hopes to spread the good word and experience a diverse life once again.
@KrakenLord01 Minor change! I discovered shortly after I first started playing her that the School of Seminary was a thing. Going off that page, I've downgraded her from 'Mother' to 'Sister', and also included the School in her backstory (in place of the unnamed monastery). I don't think it requires a re-review since it's just terminology changes and it already fit very easily!
